I'm headed to Washington DC in about a month and will be there for a week. I'l be doing some of the touristy stuff but when I travel I like to do local stuff like clubs, restraunts, shopping, something out of the norm of regular tourist stuff. Any suggestions from people in the know?
Depends on what you are into.
If you want to go where all the trim is, you probably want to go to Adams Morgan. There are plenty of bars there but also plenty of douche bags. If you can ignore the douche bags its actually alright.
If you are into beer check out Brickskeller on 22nd. Its got literally 1000s of beers. But a lot stuck up bastards go there early on and it starts to mellow out towards the end of the night.
If you just want a laid back place to listen to music and have some pints, go to the red room at the black cat. If you are lucky some "famous" band will be playing upstairs and you cn just drop some money to go check them out and come back to the bar after the show.
Another place is the rocknroll hotel in DC. They have drunken jenga nights that are supposedly fun but thats too hip for me to check out. But i've heard it was a decent time.
Clubs...i don't know...I haven't been to a club in about 10 years so I'm sure the ones that I did go to are non existent now or have turned into a gay bar or something.
Food....tons of places to eat. Dukem Ethiopian Market on U Street is pretty good....actually its really good now that I think of it. Haven't been there in a while but it was really good a couple of years ago.
Kinkead's is a good seafood place but it ain't cheap.
Marvin's is good too...not too expensive but not too cheap either.
Uhhhh thats all i can think of right now.

I haven't lived in the area in a long time, and only lived there for a year, so I don't remember too much.
But I DO recall LOVING Five Guys burgers. Mmmm. Five Guys.
I'm sure Diana could give some more pointers/tips/ideas as well.

Tenleytown is aiiight, there are a few cool bars there, the names of which I unfortunately do not recall. I also highly recommend Parkway Deli for sammich purposes.
