I've never seen this programme but a friend in NZ sent me a clip from the perez hilton site and I watched the lady last night. Her voice is good but I was very distracted by the eyebrows.

can you elaborate on that dude, all i saw was her be a bit stupid and then the judges have that face where they thought she was gonna be shit, then she sang, it wasnt completely manufactured, maybe a bit.

no chance , 6 months maybe, Cowell will flog the rags to "riches" (his riches more like) angle and she will be all over the telly for ages trying to make as much cash as possible. And if people take to her and dont get pissed off with her, she could develop a career that way.

for a day or two she was the most famous person in the world. the furor will eventually die down, not before some people with a little vision make a coupla million for her and themselves.

all that aside, I find it a little disturbing that everyone is "shocked" by her. I mean, youth and good looks are not a precursor to having a good singing voice. when I saw the clip, I found myself wondering why the audience and judges seemed so annoyed and hateful, then when she started singing, I was like, "oh, well done". I didn't have a very emotional response.

I guess people could be shocked that a homely never-been-kissed 47 year old would have enough confidence to blast out a song like that...but I still think it's kind of weird.

I'm sure plenty of ugly people have great voices.

They leave a little bit of room for the viewer to draw the bow (not very far) that it is surprising that this unknown can sing like that. Plus TV people don't look like that! What a surprise! If you're not surprised about her appearance, you're surprised about people who are surprised. Tsk, why do we always judge books by their cover? I defend her, I am surprised I have to. What a surprise.
