View Full Version : NHL PLAYOFFS
Who's it gonna be, bitches?
Philly's my team, but my heart says that they ain't going to make it past the first round. They have been playing like shit, and they dont have a good recent history versus the Pens. I am ordering cheesesteaks from Campo's to be fedex'd to my house if anyone wants to stop by my dump for one.
Detroit? That bum Osgood is going to shit the bed and ruin the repeat.
San Jose? I just see upset. THey addes a lot of rings to their team this year, I think they are going to be the upset of the playoffs, not even getting out of the 1st round vs. the Ducks.
Rangers? I'll be outside MSG with my broom in less than a week hopefully.
I think the Canucks are going to take it all. They have 2 lines sorted out and a world class goalie. I think they will end up playing the Caps, but they will lose in 6.
What are your thoughts?

Detroit vs. San Jose is going to be the match up of the playoffs. West will win the cup.

If that is the case (which I believe it will not), SJ is going to fucking LIGHT Osgood up, and probably force him to retire.

You really think the Ducks, which barely squeeked into the playoffs, are going to beat San Jose?
the Ducks have the 2nd most wins in the NHL (I believe) since Jan 1. It's almost like 2 seasons in 1. Them being the 8th seed is slightly deceptive of their skill.
The Ducks are going to beat them down. Regardless of who wins, this is going to go to at least 6 or possibly 7. They are a big, physical team that kicks the shit out of everyone they play. That paired with the President's trophy curse = early exit. May not be the upset of the playoffs, it may be the upset of the decade.
Pens.
Too much talent to be denied.....again.

As a loser Kings fan, no matter what reasoning, just or insane, to say that the Ducks will advance any further in the playoffs than where they are now, I must disagree. The Ducks suck. There can never be any other way of thinking. It pains me to think that they even have any hope of bringing the Cup back to southern California and that wretched county.
THe Kings aren't that far away from making the post season - the next year or two probably. THey are stacked with young talent and loads of cap space.
Pens.

If you call too much talent 2 (or 3 on a good day) players. Crosby and Malkin ARE unbelieveable, but they carry that shithole. Take them out of the game, take the Pens out of the Cup. The problem lies in how do you take them down? That's something that my Mike Richards is going to have to figure out, and quick. That pussy Crosby won't drop heads up with that nigga. You take the 2 best players off any team and you're in trouble, dummy. Doesn't just work with the Pens, since Bylsma took over they have the second best record in the league and even today, a loss, they still came back from a 2-goal deficit but the crowd in Philly kept the Flyers in the game. Good thing the Pens got home ice, I guess.
Also, by default, I'm a Ducks fan because of Ryan Whitney, even though Chris Kunitz was well worth the deal.

Same things can be said for Lupul, Hartnell, Knuble, Timonen, Giroux, or Gagne. 6 - 27 or more goal scorers, now that's balance, something your squad knows nothing about. Being in the Eastern Conference basement for THAT long led to you assholes getting these players, there were not home-grown talent like Richards and Carter. Stay in the shitter long enough and of course you will get the best players in the world. 3 years from now you will see something very similar to the 'Penguins Rennaissance' happening to the Islanders. It is nothing to be proud of. Seriously. Bring someone up in your system that can be as dominate as a Richards or a Carter then come talk to me.

While this may be true, it is especially true for Pitt. When two people make up that much of your attack, it is scary to have all of your eggs in one basket.... I would like to see a career-threatening spinal injury by the end of this series on one of them.
Wow. You're a total asshole.
You can think/say anything you want. I'll enjoy it that much more when the Pens dismantle the Flyers.

that camera angle they used on a few of the power plays from behind the net is awful. you can't see anything because they still don't show you half the ice. it might have worked if you could see everything across, but they couldn't even pull that off

Crosby vs. Ovechkin basically is how people are hyping it up around here.

Yeah but there was a 13% chance of them coming back from 3-1 to 3-4 for series 1. So who knows.

Naturally, but Malkin's the wildcard. It will be nasty. I'm telling you right now, Rock. Watch my man Orpik. He's no hired thug, but he'll lay a mother fucker out. The Pens have been successful at gradually shedding their finesse first, bang second mentality. Besides, it's all about momentum and team chemistry at this point.

great game really, but disappointing on my end. the pens need to get themselves more than a goal lead and then they can actually do some hurt. great goaltending on both ends for the most part

Yeah, Letang's goal was lucky but it was going to happen at some point. After that small surge by the Caps early in the third, the Pens basically owned the rest of the third (aside from the power play the Caps had thanks to a penalty by Dupuis nobody saw) and overtime. I can't believe how well the Caps goalie played, but I don't know how long he can do it. Same with Anaheim's new goalie Hiller. It's ridiculous to believe that they're rookies but in my mind they can't play like this all playoffs. They have to have a meltdown at some point, but you can't blame the Caps goalie (I know how to say it, I just don't know how to spell it) for the last goal but I really feel like his hot streak is coming to an end.
Malkin's ugly mother in the stands and all. I bet those Penguin queers will be all upity today...

If the Pens can put as many shots on Varlamov (thank you, jabumbo) today as they did in game 3, he won't stand a chance since they're playing back-to-back games. He has to wear down at some point. Hell, maybe if the Caps lose tonight, they'll throw a rusty Theodore in for tomorrow's game.
I doubt they will..he is only 21 so he has the stamina to play two games in a row. The kid is siiiick. I don't think its a lucky streak, i think he is just that good. His reflexes are fast as fuck. Then again, being a caps fan, I'm biased.

The Pens should win every year with the amount of #1 overall picks and high first round picks in their starting lineup. You lie in shit for that long, of coarse you'll get good. That will dry up in about 5 yrs. The franchise cannot develop anyone in their organization. It s nothing to be proud of.

And since when does anyone give a fuck about hockey? They don't even have a network TV contract because there's no interest.
Answer me this, If your team gets eliminated from the playoffs, do you continue to follow the playoffs or not?
And I mean continue to actually watch games not involving your team.
Most people don't.
Also, it's laughable the amount of calls the NHL's little darling team the Pens get at key moments.
It's to the point that it's hard to take the sport seriously anymore.
I remember when the players actually determined the outcome of games in the NHL, not the officials.

1). Last time I checked, NBC has a contract with the NHL.
2). Yes, I watch the playoffs the whole way through. I even watched the Bruins stomp Carolina last night.
3). I'd say Game 5 was pretty important and the Pens had 2 Power Plays the entire game, not to mention Ovechkin intentionally taking out Gonchar and received a 2 minute penalty. If that was anyone else, they'd be suspended.
4). Don't you actually have to win a trophy in order for it to be "handed to you?"
Why don't you prance back to your Last Meal thread and discuss something you actually have any type of knowledge about.

yes, a system full of higher picks where they were picking low in the round. Plain and simple: because of their shitty play and near club failure, they benefitted by receiving better draft position. Who you hoping to play, Pete? I'd like to see Carolina for the home ice advantage and Cam Ward has looked shaky, but what worries me is if Carolina is this years Cinderella team and won't be stopped. Tim Thomas proved vulnerable early on in the series but he's got his footing and that's a scary thought. I don't think the Pens can rattle the Bruins enough for them to put in Jose Theod...I mean Manny Fernandez.
I'll tell you one thing though, it was nice watching a game that didn't send me into cardiac rest at every waking moment.

i want to see carolina win tonight simply for the fact that monday and tuesday THE BOSS is scheduled for the arena, and i want to see them squander around to appease the NHL with their scheduling....
^I agree with everything said the past 3 posts. That was easily the best series I've watched ever...even better than the Lemieux days....I think. Anyway, I'd rather see us play Carolina just for the home ice. Also because I don't like Tim Thomas and Chara. They're good. Plus I'd like to see some Staal vs. Staal shit.

finally got a big win off the back of the goaltending there. fleury made some huge key saves to keep the pens in it both before they scored and at the end of the game.
how about staal fanning on that shot in the last minute and just pushing it under fleurys back! my lord!
I don't know, he showed Philly what was up in the 1st round...

Yeah, I know, as soon as Detroit clinched against Chicago I felt like a mid-90's Buffalo Bills fan...another trip to the championship and another second place finish. I'm not confident we're gonna win so I let it die.

Of course, pull it up after a victory. Where were you in your absence, hiding under your bed???
The non-calls for both sides are becoming riduclous.... 25 seconds of too many men on the ice?? come on now....
Detroit's weak PK=Pen's victory.

hey there fern ;)
What a front running queer. You disgust me. Don't hear shit from ya when they're down 2 games...... That's the problem with Pens fans: you dont hear from them for years, to the point where the team is about to relocate, and then all of the sudden, bam - everyones a diehard.....
I must say, you homos in Pitt aren't half as bad as Boston fans, I must admit.... and with that being said, not 1/8 as bad as Ranger fans....

It's a valid point.
Do you think penguin fans would support their team by selling out every game, making them one of the richest franchises in the league if they hadn't won since '72 like the Philadelphia fans do?
2002 5 D Ryan Whitney (traded this deadline)
2003 1 G Marc-Andre Fleury
2004 2 C Evgeni Malkin
2005 1 C Sidney Crosby
2006 2 C Jordan Staal
you should win every year

Yeah, it was just one of those games. Fluery went full blown Tilt after the 2nd goal. Detroit does a wonderful job at screening the goalie. The more I watch him, the more I notice how talented Filppula is. Fern, you need to shut your fucking mouth. Its obvious that you have no idea about what comprises Pittsburgh sports culture. I think its because you root for high payroll teams and cant stand to see a smaller city's small market team succeed and that's why you CONSTANTLY mention bandwagons and draft picks. Point being, you are fucking clueless.
It's nice to see you fucking faggots showing up after a loss for a change. All it took was you queers being called out on it....(n)

if someone actually gave opposite/neutral commentary on the games, as opposed to just bitching about missed calls or some shit, then maybe we'd have something to talk about after a loss

1. Go to the bank and withdrawl all the money you can spare.
2. Then go out and borrow everything you can from every friend and family member you can.
3. Call your bookie.
4. Count how much money you've managed to get your hands on and double that figure.
5. This is how much you should be betting on Detroit in the next game.
6. See you in Cabo, you can buy me a drink as thanks for this advice.
If by some strange reason Pittsburgh happens to win the next game because it's on their home ice and they'll have the refs whippin up some home cookin for them, Just bet double whatever you lose on game 6, on game 7.
It's a stone cold mortal lock.

What do you think about EMERY???

06-08-2009, 09:17 PM
My sources tell me the New Years Day game outdoors at Fenway Park, Bruins will either be playing the Flyers or the Caps.
This is something I might have to go to.
Also: as for Emery...who knows? The Flyers will never get a top goaltender. So if you're gonna have a "B" level goalie, may as well be a nutter, like Hexy was.

Your sources, hahahaha. Keep that ear to the street, nigga. I heard the same shit, but what I also heard is that Philly is being considered for hosting 2011, I have a feeling it will be the Caps this year.
People forget that Emery lead Ott to an Eastern Conf Championship not too long ago. I cant wait to get my Emery jersey. He probably wont get number 1 though....
Talk about front running queers. Funny how Rob makes his prognostications when Detroit is one game away. Im sure he'll say it's because Datsyuk's back, but they have enough talent.

Datsyuk tips the scales to Detroit too much.
I'm just saying it now because he just came back.
You make it hard to root for the Penguin, DIGI.

Im just playin. I'll be disappointed, but its no skin off my dick. We've been to two consecutive Finals, finally got a coach the players wanna play for, and half of the team cant grow playoff beards. We'll get our share soon enough....hopefully starting now.
The best outcome would be for both planes to collide with eachother midair....
....and for some reason, you're on one of them.

Well. What a great series. Everyone here who matters knows I'm a Wings fan...if you don't believe it, check previous sports threads. While I'm frustrated with the fact that Detroit couldn't close it in 6, I think they have the edge going into game seven. It should be a great game, but I have faith in my team. Go Wings!

What are your favorite teams again?
The Colts, Red Wings, Lakers, and Yankees?
Pens 3-2.
.....and the first time ever the Super Bowl and Stanley Cup Champs share a city.
Nah, he's a Colts fan. Even though they're WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY past-prime. I envision a terrible season from them.
I had a dream last night that Pitt was up 10-2 in the middle of the second period. I was like "Holy Shit, you believe this nigga" to one of my friends. An omen?? ya never know.

I envision a 10-6 season and a very quick playoffs. We need better receivers. And we could use a defence.
By the way, I am a Raptors and Blue Jays fan, thank you. Those are legit picks, they've both been perpetual losers since the 1990s, just like the Penguins.:D
Should be a good game tonight, it's going to be tight.
And we could use a defence.

You failed to mention that the Pens now rule and the Raptors and Blue Jays still suck.
Fleury really picked the right game to steal.

i blame the NHL for this one. i mean, they played game 6 on tuesday, so i figured game 7 would be scheduled for thursday. and if that were the case, i could have EASILY found a way to at least chill and listen to the radio broadcast.
fuckers had to go and schedule the game during one of the 3 sets that i wasn't going to miss....
Good thing you don't have to worry about that anytime soon.
Always next season, nigga...... Maybe since these jokers won, Bettman got it out of his system, so there may be some fair officiating in next years playoffs. I can't believe that there is not more outrage over the staging of the 2009 playoffs.
Im okay with it. What I find funny is Robert made his 'stone cold mortal lock' and hasnt been back since (posting, at least). Werent you bitching about something similar last week, Fern?
Probably, but what is done is done. People keep talking about Hossa leaving, remember Ryan Malone, that nigga ran to Florida for the gelt and could have just won it for his hometown..... How was he supposed to know that the shit was going to be rigged though I guess.....
Soon as Rob said that, I knew that it was fucking over. Seriously. I walk on eggshells until the shit is over.....
