Back 'Round (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUATgLp52D4)

Been waiting for a follow up album from these guys for years.
Sounds like it'll be worth the wait.

was always a fan of wolfmother.

im glad they are putting out new stuff.

i always saw them as a cross between zeppelin and sabbath.

one of the few new bands i actually would care to look for their new music.

this song sounds like a continuation of the last album. pretty deece.

Stockdale the wooly headed little prat kicked the other two out because he wanted publishing rights and writing credits or somesuch. I guess it was all his idea to rip off the 'classic' sound. His new drummer is from a fruity-ass 'funk outfit' called the Resin Dogs. I can get with the principle of putting a funk drummer in there, given the nature of Zeppelin's rhythm section, but regardless I wish they would just fuck the fuck off already. Them and U2.

Geez, I know they're "arena rock" and all and some look down on shit like that, but how can you not love their sound if you're a fan of classic rock like Sabbath.

Their first album was arguably one of the most consistent albums of the past decade for my taste.

aussies are usually very patriotic about music from their own bands but it's the opposite here. i think australians are pretty sick of wolfmother.

I'm just an angry man, I guess.

wolfmother are fun. nothing great. but a fun band.

Sorry, aber sie nur eine solide allgemeine so.

Sorry but they just sound so generic.

generic, to me, implies they sound like a lot of other things. run of the mill type of band.

i think that assessment is far from a good description of wolfmother.

care to explain, what makes them generic?

funk63
04-14-2009, 07:48 PM

Zeppelin Tribute Band

.

i figured as much. was there a need for the rest?

i think zeplin is massively overrated in the first place. i appreciate their similarities to sabbath much much more.

i dont see how resembling a band makes them generic though. if they were making music in the 70s they could have been as big as those bands for all we know.

the fact that they are making music that sounds similar in 2009 shouldn't detract from what they are doing. especially when an overwhelming amount of rock in this age is the real definition of generic, but a step further, and just absolute shit.

but opinions are opinions; thats mine, and yours is yours.

Since when did sounding like Zep or Sabbath become a bad thing?
I must have missed that hipster memo.

Meh, diff'rent strokes.
I'll drop the $50 to import the vinyl from down under again and I'll be completely satisfied.

I was actually the first person to draw similarities between Zwan and Smashing Pumpkins. Everybody was like nah, and I was like, seriously, listen.

checkyourprez
04-15-2009, 10:21 PM
naah but for real ive just thought that since i first heard them in 04 or whenever they came out.

its not like i read up on the band or checked out some articles or their bios or anything and knew they were trying to sound like that.

they just remind me of them, if they intend it;which it looks like you are implying; then they are doing a good job and i am as perceptive as they come .

but its not like i read it or heard someone else say it and started to copy them. it was just an original thought that i had always had. cant dog a mans original thought.

From out of nowhere I found this epic clip (http://g4tv.com/icons/videos/12786/Mike-Patton-Hates-Wolfmother.html). I don't know who he is but he puts it nicely. He knows that they aren't the real thing.

That's an old clip of Mike Patton acting like a jealous 5 year old over Wolfmother's success.

When was the last time Mike "fucking one hit wonder from 1989" Patton produced any relevant piece of music?
As if his opinion is valid on anything?

For serious, I love the board members who like Wolfmother, so that makes the band a little more tolerable. Plus, the "genius" of Patton isn't exactly universal and easily demonstrated.

All my love, Kid Lovington-Lovely.

I was hyped when they first came out but now I'll pass. That new stuff doesn't do anything for me either.

The Patton argument is invalid. Yeah, he does some strange off the wall type stuff but he's got plenty of good jams and more work out there than WM.

i dont think its that ridiculous to have a rock band try and sound like the golden era of rock...ala the 70s.
