I started a new course of meds (Venlafaxine) on saturday and It's thursday now and I haven't slept one wink since sunday night. I kind of feel tired but not as tired as I think I should be feeling.

Does anyone have any (natural) tips on getting a good nights sleep?

Read something until you absolutely can't read anymore. If books aren't doing the trick, try getting a magazine or "Calvin and Hobbes" type collection.

That works for me.

Valerian is good but i dunno if you can mix it with pills.

I've tried reading until the point of collapse but it never comes. It's like my eyes get tired but my body/brain doesn't let up.

The Far Side-Volume 3 has been knocking me out for the last week and a half. But I'm also so busy during the day that I'm damn near comatose when I go to bed anyway.

rub one off.

or take it further incorporating the reading trick. Masturbate until you can masturbate any more.

Can you not just stop taking the meds? Or half the dose and go see the doctor? Kinda pointless solving one problem to create another.

Can't stop, it has added side effects when you stop.

Hopefully this should wear off.

i think you should call your doctor and let them know. they may need to change your dosage or meds in general.

prednizone does that to me, but that's a very temporary situation when i have to use it.

1)glass of milk
2)pushups
3)wankitt
4)read

in that order

i keep a really boring book that i know i should read closeby for this.

if that doesnt work have someone punch you in the face and cry yourself to sleep

Not so true (as far as I know) - sleeping too much has been related to depression. Human body needs around 4-7 hours of sleep a night, those who get 8 or more have tended to be more depressed.

But meds messing with your chemistry could have side effects and it effects each and everyone differently.

And depression is a word to cover many hundreds of conditions. Manic Depression is kinda considered to be the best kind to have because you get incredible highs although you get the lows but manics have a tendency to go onto to be quite successful and have a wicked sense of humour (kinda why you get a lot of comedians who have been diagnosed with it - Stephen Fry for example).

milk makes me gassy and I might pay for it during the next morning but it does help.

Even do I've been sleeping 5 hours for 3 years. I need help.

Exercise? Later night television? Soothing music at low volume? Cold milk? New pillows/sheets? Low/no light? Lava lamp? Writing in a journal?

its 4:17am and I'm about to go to sleep. Listening to a 4 hr podcast helped me yesterday. I have a 11:30am appointment to see a specialist who is gonna work on pulling my wisdom tooth ( mmmm... worried). So we'll see how that goes. I support soothing music any night to help you to go sleepy (y)

Baths
Milk or Ovaltine
I use lavender and camomile pillow spray
Yoga
And leave yourself an hour or so to properly relax before you actually want to try to sleep
Light meals in the evening and no sugar

They* also say that if you ain't asleep within 30 minutes of trying, get up and do something instead and laying there and then try again.

*I don't know who they are however.

super hot baths suck all your energy away.

combine that with "camo"mile bath salts and you will barely be able to get out of the bathtub let alone think about not being able to sleep.

Hey I see what you did there!

Unfortunately I only have a shower in my apartment :(

hot baths are undeniable as a sleep-aid.

I know I miss having baths. I lose out on the decent 'thinking time' that baths created.

Adam
04-21-2009, 11:17 AM
Why not try making a bath old skool style - by filling a bath in your room. I'm sure you could get one pretty cheaply. It'll be a pain emptying though but it'd probably tire you out so maybe help you sleep to.

Knowign me I'd be half asleep and just automatically pull the plug out when getting out.

Adam
04-21-2009, 11:31 AM
I'm guessing you can get the non-plugged version - just literally a tub.

Or you could flood ya kitchen or something?

Yeah we've been seeing how things go for a bit but I'm pretty sure that it's fully over now. We've had some laughs but it's the usual things happening so it's not working.
