View Full Version : getting older is weird

I'm starting to notice that my friends are starting to look like adults. and some guys that used to be hot "older" (age 28-35) guys in my crowd are now looking realllly old. like dads. because they're now 36-41

but the truth is we're not that old at all. but we're all just gonna keep getting older. ugh.

Its when the police start looking younger than you is when you are older. <-- I've noticed this. I'm definitely going to more weddings now and I know more new moms and dads.

I was out on Friday and discussing america and their drink laws being at 21. The majority of friends I was out with was <25 - and we all was saying because we've been out in pubs and clubs regularly since we was 16 (as ID checking is not a big thing here), we feel no need to party like they seem to do in american TV shows characters in their twenties (cus I know TV = IRL). We had done it all by the time we was 21 - had our fair share of dodgy situations and stuff we've had to deal with that parents would of locked you in a cellar for if they found out.

Anyway, we was saying with that also, americans seem - on general terms - to be a bit more schooled and grown up academically than Brits at relative ages. But once you give them a beer they seem to lose 10 years.

Again, we made these judgements on several pints and bottles of wine with our limited experience and opinions of a different culture.

sometimes when i see other 27 year olds, i feel stink cos they look like proper adults...like...all old and mature and shit
i can still pass for an 18 year old and really...i'm kinda lame for my age, which is unfortunate

Streetfighter

dude this game brought all the old folks back. I know maybe 7 people 5-10 years older than me that I have played in Street Fighter 4. I'm pretty much should have been with the 3rd Strike crowd but at that time I was in Soul Calibur 2 scene going from San Gabriel Valley all the way down San Fransisco for tourneys. I stopped because that scene was just dieing so I quit gaming for a bit. 2007 I started to play Street Fighter Alpha 3 and stopped and decided to try art because I really didnt have a clue to what I wanted to do so I gave that a shot. 2 years in college making paintings and now Street Fighter 4 comes out with this hype and I'm back in my competitive gaming roots. Feels good to have my "fighting" spirit back again.

Just saying it's pretty weird how you distinguish Street Fighter 4 as a completely different hobby to every other computer game. Thanks for the sarcasm, though.

Adam

Padster you are probably too young to remember the insane hype of Street Fighter 2. We used to skip school to play it. I'm 28 to and still love my PS3 - you can't take the gamer out of a person. We was about 11 when it arrived...

I remember Street Fighter 2 selling out - and I'm sure RRP was about £60 - add that to whatever todays prices would be in real terms and you are talking 2 years pocket money back then. For comparison, take the insane hype of an iphone and WoW - add them together and multiply it by about 100. And you get to how big this game was.

This is why the games industry is booming. Late twenties, early thirties have money now, some of us don't have kids to support and we are addicted.

Not really. If no one cared about anything what kind of a place would the world be? And it's not like I care a lot, just enough to spend a few seconds writing a post. Sorry if that's weird to you.

I was just wondering why you dismissed your last 18 years of computer gaming as a hobby, that's all. And pointing out the fact that you're nearly 30 and play video games on the regular.

I was with my dad this year at costco renewing our cards together and the lady referred to me as his wife.
that made me cry a little inside :(

if Im wearing my glasses I look 5+ years older than I am.
If Im not, then I can so pass for someone alot younger.

3/5 of my closest friends are 3 years younger than me, I find that keeps me feeling a bit more youthful in a way.

I also have almost zero friends/people I regularly hang with who are married and none who have had children.
kind of odd for someone in their late 20's

BUT I myself did take a big step towards growing up this year, I'm muthafucking engaged now. :)(y)

same here. except I'm 29. but I like getting mistaken for younger because I'm a lady. I've been trying to dress classier though. it only works sometimes. other times I just feel like a kid playing dress up.

Oh man, I'm starting to feel like one of those dudes except I'm not all drugged out looking. The ages of people I hang out with ranges so widely. I've had a couple of recent encounters that went like this...

Me: "So, miss, these alcoholic beverages are delicious and this conversation is going quite well. Good times for all involved!"
Girl: "Why I do believe you are correct, sir. By the by, what would be the approximate amount of years you have been on this Earth?"
Me: "At least 27 years. And if you don't mind me asking the same?"
Girl: "19."
Both of us: "RUH ROH."

I don't mind getting older, it's the fact that I'm on the back end of 20 and have no money or plans for the future that bothers me.

Like Airesse said (BTW CONGRATS!!! :D ), none of my friends are married or have kids, which is nice. But when I look at the profiles of acquaintances from high school on facebook who are married with babies and careers, I feel like a fucking child in comparison and it's not pleasant.

I would also venture to guess that the majority of the dudes in this city I seem to be attracted to are probably at least like 4 years younger than me.

:(

Friends of mine have been buying houses, have been celebrating fifth aniversaries and are breeding

I myself am on the verge of buying a house and have worked a 75+ hour week a couple of weeks ago.

Pretending to be a grownup sucks.

We still occasionally do the same shit we used to do a decade ago like come home drunk at eight am or meet up to play a game or two, it just doesn't happen several times a week like it used to.

getting older is weird. i feel a bit bad sometimes cos i am turning thirty this year, and i am not in a long term relationship, i am working a job which i dont care about, i still have to borrow money from my mum, i dont dress properly, i have posters on my bedroom wall, and i live friends.

but. most of the time i guess i dont mind so much cos i keep busy doing fun things. one day i'll meet a hot chick and we'll get a wirehaired dachshund, and everything else will fall into place.

I'm nearly 24 now, but I can't really see myself 'growing up'. I've only started going to University this year and am surrounded by either 18 year olds fresh out of high-school, or people of my own age.
I'm trying to be an independant and responsible person, but I don't see myself ever doing really grown-uppy things. I know people of my age who act like 40-something with boring beige houses and boring clothes and boring lives, but that could never make me happy.
I'm looking forward to a life of living in brightly coloured houses (mine is dark-purple with bright green now) full with Designer toys, SNES games, stuffed animals, film posters and a hizzuuuge music collection. And I want to be going to festivals/parties untill I'm dead, because that's what makes me happy. And luckily I have friends who feel the same way.

Maybe I'll have massively changed in 10 years time, but I just can't imagine that. I'm also not the relationshippy type, so I also don't see myself getting married or having kids. I just want to have fun and not conform to the norm of what an 'adult' is.

my dad is 58!

and I supppose he looks a little young for his age (he's an electrician so he keeps in decent shape and doesn't have a huge shitlocker gut like most dudes/daddies I know his age)
regardless of this, my father is not a classically good looking dude. he basically looks like james belushi (http://homepage.floodcity.net/users/holquist/mb.jpg) with a little hockey flavour of tie domi (http://www.cbc.ca/gfx/photos/domi_tie040831.jpg) mixed in.
poor dads!
when I meet people he knows they basically don't believe that I am his offspring. I look nothing like my mother either who is a tall skinny leggy blonde with green eyes. So I am the result of that odd pairing

anyways, I am engaged to someone about 30 years younger than him, lucky me!

Most likely. Except your body will let you know the truth.

My knees are getting bad. I'm 35 now. I grew up, and old, on a skateboard and snowboard. Still fairly fit for a guy who loves beer and tacos. But this past year really put me in reality. Went snowboarding (as usual) and found it a bit more difficult to do the same simple tricks I used to. My knees weren't as responisve, or even as flexible as they were last year. I still hammered the day away, and even the next. The day I got back home I could barely walk. I went to see my bone Doc. He says that I've always had knees that were out of the ordinary. My knee caps point outward instead of straight (like most). He says I never noticed before because I was younger. Now that I'm "entering middle age", my tendons and muscle are being pulled from those knee caps. Nothing to worry about he says. I just need to take Celebrex and keep my weight under 205. Being 6'2 and liking to drink, I've never kept an eye on my weight. Now I feel old because of my knees, and that I'm watching what I eat, and mostly that I'm taking Celebrex.

As most of you know I'm 28 but look a lot younger. In my teens I used to dream about looking older so that I'd stop having the mickey taken out of me whenever I did anything that needed proof of age.

However in my early 20's my hair started to recede at an alarming and it's pretty much all gone. So now i'm stuck with a baby face and hardly any stinking hair! It's a real confidence killer (n)

SF2 is the only reason I still have a SNES hooked up to a TV in my house.

Like, when I'm with my kids, or the fact that I have kids, I feel like an old man.
