what is with the fuckin' catchphrases and nicknames?

nofenders you typed "obubba" instead of "obama", and valvano's got his stupid ellipses. I mean, why? do you think it's cute and clever or something? it's not, it's snide and frankly, makes me feel embarrassed for you and others who do it.

it's not just you guys, it's in the comments on articles, signs carried, fox sound bites...always with the cutesy plays on words. I just don't get it, it's all so embarrassing...I know I said that before but I think that's really the only way to describe it.

yeah, so wtf?

i assume it's just a thing you do to politicians you hate. like "dubya" or "mcsame" or "i want to strangle sarah palin"

i don't get the origin of "obubba" though. i mean, "dubya" referred to the fact that bush came across as a...um...man of simple joys, and "mcsame" referred to the fact that mccain was co-opting all or most of bush's policies and attitudes (despite being genuinely likable for such a long time), and "i want to strangle sarah palin," well, i don't think i need to explain that

but "obubba?" does it refer to the fact that he has the demeanor of a retarded southern shrimp farmer? or that he reminds you of a cellmate who will rape you after lockdown? i'm not sure i see either of those two, it must be something else

I think it's reverse reverse racism?

or like, "bubba" was the name of the black guy in Forest Gump. or or, they used to call bill clinton, "bubba" because it's like a term for a country bumpkin. so like obama is like clinton or something? what?

"mcsame" is bothersome. "dubya" isn't too bad because it doesn't really provide a whole lot of comment on the man, and it's not a rhyme.

I guess I don't like it when left wing dorks do it either, but it seems like a whole lot of right wing people rely heavily on catch phrases as explanations for their views. it's just silly to me.

but during the election we were supposed to hate obama because he was a harvard elitist who knew what arugula was. now he's a bumpkin? make up your mind!

I always kind of wondered about this too.

It's a real turn off. As soon as somebody uses one of their "clever" nicknames they're dismissed from intelligent conversation.

Everyone does it everywhere. You've done it, she's done it, he's done it. Good god, last year was pathetic on everyone's account.

This isn't something new. Please don't try and tag name calling to conservatives. It's ashame a lot of old threads get deleted here.

Anyway, I call him Obubba because I used to work with a Bubba. He's a diehard Democrat. When BHO went full retard, I started calling him Obubba. Nothing more behind that. There's no Forrest Gump relation or any racism tagged to it. Just is what it is. A name I call the guy. I live in a society where actual names are used very little. We call each other by our nik names. I alone have three different ones. It's nothing huge, and certainly nothing claimed only by conservatives. I don't trust the guy, so I call him Obubba. I didn't trust Bubba either. And it's a good thing I didn't.

So, get over it, and make me a samich. ;-)

lol @ "turn off" though.

That bullshit worked with Clinton pretty damn good, I mean he was a brilliant man, Rhodes Scholar and all...... but being the Governor of Arkansa just sort of nailed Bubba. Obama as Bubba is just moronic. It has no real traction IMO. I think it's moronic. I never entertained calling Bush "Dubya" or any of the other pet names because why distract from his obvious criminal acts by calling him a nick name?

To coin a phrase or invent a nickname, it has to be clever and original. There is absolutely nothing clever or original in Obubba. It's dumb. He is from the North!

Here is an informative list of Presidential nicknames (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_Presidential_nicknames).

Dorothy Wood

Dubya,[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_Presidential_nicknames#cite_ note-4) a self-chosen name based on a Texan pronunciation of "W."

ha!

"self-chosen"

see nofenders, you couldn't even state your point without including a catchphrase. "full retard"? yeah, okay.

and I don't actually do it, because it annoys me. I try my best to explain my points of view in real terms without relying on cutesy language. and I said before that I hate it when the left wing does it too.

I guess what I suspect is that sometimes people's opinions aren't opinions, they're neatly packaged and produced phrases that do a piss-poor job of explaining anything, but are easy to remember enough to get a point across. even if that point doesn't make sense.

yeah, so, I think it's weak and stupid to rely on catchphrases rather than your own brain power to explain your point of view.

Sooooooo, nobody has ever called anyone a name?? Full retard was put in there intentionally. To show you guys how you only read and hear what you want to, and completely ignore the rest.

I call him Obubba, you don't, so what??

You've all called political figures names in your time. If you say you haven't, you are lying to yourself, and that's never a good thing.

It's going to be OK, I think the "so what??" is something bob, kaiser, dorothy, waus, king pysz and myself have already explained. I don't think any of us really give a shit if you call him L. Bubba J.

It just sort of a curious way to add to the conversation. I don't think your a Full Retard.

Its a free country... for now. How many people in the media bashed Bush? And that includes filmmakers, TV, musicians (BB), and my band too. I did. Is it because he's the first black president and its all historical? Get over it. He's just a man. Don't be a shit.

It comes with the job... and hopefully he does a good one.

Hopes up, fellas! But he's now open game for all this. He's the friggin' president!

how is putting "full retard" in there intentionally to show us how we only read and hear what we want? what are we ignoring?

I'm honestly honestly trying to understand the reasoning behind speaking like that. I mean, you just keep doing it over and over. calling "yeahwho", "yeahright". seriously? either you're the master of irony, or you don't have any idea what you're even saying half the time.

and I honestly, cross my heart, have never made up a nickname for a president, and/or repeatedly referred to him as such. might've said G Dubs once or twice in conversation, but that's not supposed to be clever or disparaging so it doesn't count.

It's not about latching onto you saying full retard (although that in and of itself is full retard), it's about me asking what did Obama possibly do that was full retard so far?

Considering the last 8 years I can't imagine anything he has done so far that comes close to the insanity that came before him.

Do you not see the backhanded and frankly childish nicknames and titles for every gaff coming from conservitive media for what they are?

I would be embarassed to call myself a conservative with the way the movement's loudest supporters have been behaving of late. Just as people like Nancy Pelosi embarass me to consider myself liberal leaning.

You can call me master. ;-)

Seriously though, it's pointless. Don't sweat it. Not a big deal. Names names names. What's in a name anyway?

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.

It's something we all do, to relieve the madness in our heads.

It's really not something to even bother yourself with trying to understand.

Just drink a beer, realise that the gov will do what it wants whenever it wants, and we need to find some Libertarians to take some local and state offices, so we can take big gov out of the picture.

I'm over that whole thing. I realise that we're heading to the worst times of our country's lifetime. I realise that we the people voted in order for this to happen. I realise that there will be another election, and another after that. I have more hope now than ever before.

Obubba,Bush Lite,Chimp in Chief, Dumbya,George W Fustercluck, Obamatron, Barack the Wack, President Weak, Pinocchio,Shrub, Flight suit in chief,Furious George,Imperial Resident,Obumma, Obama Osama,Barak Sadam Hussein Osama Obama bin laden.

Whatever!!! He's not your mother.

I think anyone who would want that job has to be full retard in one sense or another.

Yep, and I seen'em for every other President that's taken office. Obama will not be off this list. Sorry.

I'd be embarassed to call myself anything but American. It's really not a big deal PSYZ. We could all sit down and have a beer with each other. It's not as if conservatives, democrats,or Libertarians, or Canadians can't all sit with each other and enjoy life. It's the few diehards from any side that paint the picture we want to see.

We all believe the lies and stories we want to believe.

Just sayin...

I think it's really dumb that republicans now say "democrat" instead of "democratic." "The democrat candidate for congress, the democrat platform, etc." They think poor grammar is hilarious. And they ALL do it. I don't know when it started. 10 years ago? You would never catch people doing it when Nixon or Reagan was in office. I keep listening for a prominent republican who doesn't do it, but even the ones who are pretending to be moderate do it now. I think they take classes in how to do it.

while i do think some nicknames like bubba or dubya are relatively harmless, however i can't stand the juvenile name calling, like when republicans are referred to as repugnantcans, repuglicans or whatever, it's lame.
