GM to kill Pontiac brand - keep Chrysler and Buick

Bad idea - Pontiac has a beloved history and quite frankly I think they were getting onto something with their latest models (more streamlined) and marketing (to the younger crowd)

DETROIT – General Motors Corp. said it will cut 21,000 U.S. factory jobs by next year, phase out its storied Pontiac brand and ask the government to take more than half its stock in exchange for half of GM's government debt as part of a major restructuring that would leave current shareholders holding just 1 percent of the company.

The struggling automaker said it will offer 225 shares of common stock for every $1,000 in notes held by bondholders as part of a debt-for-equity swap that aims to retire most of GM's $27 billion in unsecured debt.

I totally agree. What I think GM should do is get rid of GM models, they are the same thing as Chevy models just different trim, and stick all that effort into Chevrolet.

Not enough, I like the debt for ownership plan. Although if you're giving the US Goverment a controlling percentage of stock I could see many freaking out about that.

Honestly, the multi brand thing needs to be killed. Umbrella everything under the GM name and that would reduce overhead as you dont have 3 versions of each vehicle.

So that means no chance of seeing the Pontiac Aztec again. Shucks!! ;-)

Anyway, all this cash for bailout was a waste. What they should have done was paid into the pensions and healthcare, and let the GM sink or swim from the begining.
