Needs to make a new record.
The more I listen to him, the more I think he might be one of my all time favourite musicians.

Totally underrated as both a producer and a rapper.

I've been down with Edan for a while, and I've never seen what the fuss was about. He's OK, but nothing special.
Same with Black Milk.

I only have Beauty & The Beat, but I also know his track Funky Rhyming from his myspace page... I dunno what you guys think he needs to work on.
Beauty & The Beat is a top notch record. The production is so different. All the guest spots are awesome.
Funky Rhyming, first verse excerpt.
From the Top of the Empire State
I shit on a rapper's hair who think they be great
and while they rubbing on a head full of dookie
my man step up and take the polaroid smoothly
So I can put it on the cover of my next 12
and maybe call the record "How I excel"
or anything to indicate my superiority
weather you be new to my shit or feel my already...
It goes on like that man. Hilarious. My 2 cents.
Sprain your Tape Deck is what I listen to the most.
He's got a little Rakim kickin on Primitive Plus....a white Rakim.

I agree, he does need to drop a new album. I was just talking with a friend about this the other day. I had realized that it's been like 4 years since 'Beauty And The Beat'.
I first got hipped to him in like '99, when I heard the song 'Sing It Shitface' on some underground hip-hop site, and I immediately loved it. The 12" single version was on that site, which I like better than the version that ended up on 'Primitive Plus'. They are very similar (same beat and lyrics), but the version on the 'Sing It Shitface' 12" is a different take, and I think it's a better one.
Another Edan release that fans might wanna check out, is an album called 'Fast Rap' (http://www.undergroundhiphop.com/store/detail.asp?UPC=HM100CD). It's not made up of original Edan material though. He released it under the name "Edan The DJ". It's basically a commercially available mixtape that he put together, made up of some classic "fast rap" hip-hop artists' material.
Anyways, yeah he's due for a new one.

Word on the Sing It Shitface
He also has a mix tape that is all using the Funky Drummer beat. I forgot what it was called. I have it somewhere. "Sounds of the Funky Drummer?"

Whenever I hear/say the name Edan in my head I sing this whole verse:
This is Edaaaaaaaaaaan
In the place to be, in the place to be
In the place to do it, where we gots to do it, where we gots to do it
Just do it, just do it, check it out

Thats pretty funny cause I do the same thing...well just the "This is Edaaaaaaan, in the place to be" part. ok not so funny.

While searching around for 'Sound Of The Funky Drummer' on CD, I ran across this other Edan album that I had never heard of. It's called 'Architecture'. It was his first album, crafted in his dorm room during his sophmore year in college, in '98. It was an unofficial release. Discogs lists that there was only a cassette "pressing" of it (and not on a label), which was sold at shows I believe.
I found a complete download of it at 192kbps. I've listened to the whole thing. The sound quality is decent, and the songs themselves are pretty dope. It's a pretty zany style album, with Edan rapping the whole thing in his higher pitch "cartoony" voice. It has the original version of 'Sing It Shitface' on it, as well as the other tracks that were on the "SIS" 12", minus the instrumentals.
This site makes you go through an ad page before you'll get to the d/l, but it's a small price to pay for a good copy of it. For some reason, I didn't see this hosted on a lot of blogs. This was the only working one I came across:
Edan - Architecture (http://etalonhiphop.blogspot.com/2008/04/edan.html)
I have his first two self-released CDs.. "Artchitecture (1999)" & "Primitive Plus" (2000)
He gave me these back in the day. The sleeves are xeroxed and the CDs are CDRs.
He is from Maryland but spent a lot of time in Boston in the late 90's because he went to school here. He hung out at all the Hip How shows when every other week Skitzofreniks, 7L & Esoteric, Akrobatik, Virtuoso, etc were playing... I think he even battled a few times... I don't remember.. but now I am gonna throw these CDs on, it's been a while.
Thanks for bringing it up..

Definitely feeling the love for Edan. When Primitive Plus dropped I didn't listen to anything else for weeks.
'Storm' with Mr Lif off the Cut Chemist album is also great track.

we asked for a gig. they said "sure! if you can supply all these things." one of these things was visas for him and dagha. another one of the things was the flowers. i cant remember the other stuff in the email. but cos we would have been the only uk date, we would have had to pay for the work visas and the travel to and from holland. so there was no way we could afford him, cos most of the shows we put on a run on a shoestring. the best thing was that the email was all written in the style of his bio on his website. :)

Learn to be the best MC that's steps ahead
Didn't have a plan, so you was left for dead
Didn't have a van so you rode your bicycle
Birth and death is just a part of the life cycle
Watching a ball game you want to be like Michael
But he can't be you, that ain't see through
That's the true facts don't idolize him
Lace up your kicks bust your ass to the gym
Develop your skills, explore and work hard
Know yourself and never desert God
Cause that's the free force, the infinite resource
I used to eat spaghetti with tomato and meat sauce
Now I rock veggies with the sauteed tofu
Demolishing a pimp politician 'cause I'm supposed to

anybody hear Echo Party yet? It's pretty good, not amazing, but it'll more-than hold you over until he puts out the next album.

I picked up Echo Party. If you're into mixtapes its a cool experiment. I'm not sure how much the masses would get into it but if you like experimental music and old school hip hop (like late 70's early 80's stuff) it's a good listen.
Edan has a special place in my hoart because he's from the same stomping grounds as me. If you go back 10-15 years you would see Edan rocking the cubscout hat with the technics record bag, selling his records at pretty much every hip hop jam in a 2 hour radius of Washington DC. There were a lot of kids like him doing the same thing. It was cool to see a DIYer get some shine.
Edan is one of those dudes who truely loves hip hop. He's one of those rare breeds of white kids who got into hip hop because of hip hop, not because of some cross-over act. He can rap like a motherfucker too.

The masses dont listen to Edan.
LOL. Good point. I guess that depends on how you define the masses. From seeing the guy sell sing it shitface records out of a record bag to being brought up on a beastie boys message board, I see that as huge progression. Compared to all the other people comming up in that area (Doujah Raze, Trooperz, Boomski & Clutch, the Supafriendz, etc.) Edan is made it big. So, I guess I sort of consider you guys the masses. He's definately not a household name though. But anyone who is at all into "underground" hip hop is going to know of him.
