I have a feeling pancakes and waffles have different meanings in the UK to the USA. Almost opposites?

I'm too drunk to think but its one of those up is down things.

there is a poll for this in the archives somewhere.

I like waffles, but I like waffles with the little squares, not the big Belgian kind. With fresh bananas and strawberries on top, no whipped cream.

I finally tried an oatmeal pancake though. Those are pretty tasty.

I'm so torn.

I frequently wake up craving pancakes...so I have to go with pancakes.

Why do the waffle lovers choose waffles over pancakes?

Because they're waffles...

pancakes are delicious, but sometimes they're mushy (batter-y?) in the middle and that makes me a gag a little.

waffles are always well cooked and they have little cubbies to hold stuff, like ice cream!

also: crepes are bestest. i <3 crepes over waffles and pancakes.

Omelets. A savory breakfast will always prevail over a sweet one in my world.

But if I had to choose, probs pancakes. I only like waffles if they're vanilla-y.

^Indeed. When I hit up the Luby's breakfast buffet, it's a made-to-order omelet, followed by a freshly made Belgian waffle.

It's good thing that I wear my eating pants.

Totally agree....if you start the day eating sugar you will crave it all day, fact.

Goat cheese & spinach omelet please!

If I start the day on garlic and onions I feel greasy all day.

Waffles are nicely crisp, which makes them taste lighter, although they probably have just as much if not more butter.

french toast all the way.

my favorite breakfast is a plate full of back bacon and poached/basted eggs with 2 slices of french toast on the side (butter and grade A maple syrup from Quebec please)

I prefer my bacon rare, which is odd because I like every other meat product burnt to a crisp

Pancakes go with anything else on the breakfast menu. You can't lose. I do enjoy waffles and fried chicken though.

Omelets w/ chopped turkey, mushrooms, and some shredded cheddar cheese with a side of hash browns??? Fiyah.

I prefer my back bacon baked/broiled in the oven. The fry pan just doesn't give it the same browning effect.

oh god, I want to hit up a truck-stop diner, just like now and shit.

Flapjacks with cinnamon and Quebec maple.

When making a stack of pancakes, the one hot off the pan keeps the one below warm. You can't do that with waffles.

PANCAKES 4ever

i get way too ocd when i eat waffles, and im not generally a picky eater. like i have to have syrup in every single divot, the butter can only take up four of them in the middle, and i have to eat it in a square formation. i think this goes back to the reading the back of the cereal box days, im not sure.

I used to be like that too.

When I was 10.

Then I forced myself to cut through the squares anyway I want and I got over it. ;)

I've been making some pretty fucking amazing vegan Freedom toast at least once a month lately. With that said, waffles are great and pancakes are for old farts that get them with the early bird special and blend them in their Metamucil shakes before spilling them all over their Rite Aid Velcro shoes.

There are at least 7 different annoying things about this.

Waffles are COMPLETELY different from french toast and pancakes. The former is crisp, the latter are soggy. I love going to a breakfast buffet when they have the giant waffle maker that you swivel upside down while your waffle cooks. But usually I can never tell what's going on with that dim little red faceted light. Is it on? I think it's on. Oh no wait, NOW it's on. Okay do I wait for it to go off before starting my waffle or does it go off when my waffle is done?

Because you get to rotate that big metal thing around and you get the satisfaction of having made better waffles than you can at home.

Obviously I've never operated heavy machinery on a regular basis, since these simple kinds of mechanics are such a novelty to me.

Another reason waffles are better. My dad told me once that waffles were invented by a medieval knight who accidentally sat on his pancakes while wearing his armor. So you see waffles have a romantic legend attached to them.
