I came along here in 2003 and things were going just fine and they still are going pretty pretty good. Most of these sort of boards are mutual admiration sites but the Beastie Boys site is alright and a little bit shitty to those who are shitty.
That is all good, but please someone enlighten me on how this board came to be, who did it and when. Where are the very first members at? When will this board come to an end?
History is needed I'm thinking of writing abook about this board and it's social impact on American culture, well maybe not a book but perhaps a pamphlet. At the very least I'll write a fortune for a Chinese cookie.

i started checking out the board in 2003
but i remember going to the beastie's page sometime around 2000 (i think) and the layout was all hello nasty and stuff... it looked really cool
anyone have a link to what the site looked like around that time?
this is a cool thread... i'm curious how all this started too
Right after the 7th day rest, God said 'Let there be a place where alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the assholes in the world can meet up and talk about nonsense.' Hence, the board was created on the less talked about day 8 of creation.....

How did this start?
Well, when a man and a woman really care about each other, and they feel the time is right...
What originally started out as a simple bulletin page on a spaceship-designed website upon the release of the 1998 album Hello Nasty, moved only a year later into being a part of the ArtistDirect / iMusic forum network. This change, as well as the rapid increase of internet availability among fans, led to yet another switch-up in forum design and functionality. The InfoPop based message board was introduced around the millennium and many frequenters of the forum like to see this as the birth of the message board, or the term BBMB for that matter, as this was truly the first forum to have structure for subforums and threads and in general the design of a modern internet forum. In 2003 the forum changed its structure to vBulletin, and wiped out all content including usernames. This, of course, resulted in great fluster among some frequent users as their post count and join date no longer traveled with them.
Something like that.

1995/96 I was posting on the XLarge message board which seemed to be a very early incarnation of what we have now - lots of Beasties/GR/music/Tibet related stuff plus usual internet craziness. Got me an email from Mr Diamond :) Dunno about this one though, am relative newbie.

seein all those names from the imusic days in 2000 brings back memories..emma horovitz, miss_nin_grunge and so on..
also as for when this board will come to an end, i'm guessing it will be when the beastie boys' label stops paying the bill for it.

I was the first (after Yauch) to post in the Music forum. I sat here in my chair just looking around the board when suddenly a new forum with a post from Yauch appeared.
I wrote something about Wendy James.

that was a very popular thread, I'll have you know!
I guess I started lurking in late '99, then posting in early 2000 I guess. mostly just yelling at everyone in beastie general for being stupid.

I started posting in 2001 I do believe...maybe late 2000 I can't even remember.
it was the best thing for taking breaks from all the paper-writing/studying I was doing in University at the time. basically a sanity saver!

I think the ArtistDirect one was where you had to do "previous posts" and go to the date/time you last read and then catch up since it was literally like a guestbook. I think it was about then I started posting. I knew the Hello Nasty one but I was more of a lurker then.
Ahh, and all the names on the boards! DJ Twizt... I never knew him well but because of him, he introduced a friend of his to the chat. His friend and I ended up meeting and became friends. He met his now wife via another website I introduced him to a few years ago.
Funny how the internet can change your life or lives of others.

It started when somebody saw "Champion the Wonder Horse" on TV and was so moved by the experience they shit their pants and cried until their mommy came running from the kitchen where she'd been cleaning the oven

I believe first top soil had to be turned and a good mulch was required…then seeds were planted, soil diligently watered and eventually there was growth…then blooms appeared and some years tasty fruit was produced that kept the pilgrims coming…other years the board has been barren like angry Romans had spread rock salt upon the land, out of spite…yep...that's the story of BBMB creation...either that or God did it on the Sunday when she was supposed to be resting after creating light and life and all that other stuff…

That's wild, so in 1995 XL had a board. The Beastie Boys website (http://checkyourhead.beastieboys.com/) as of late has been totally kicking ass with the "Check Your Head" and "Pauls Boutique" intros, the draw when you click on this site is really strong because something is happening right off the bat. Plus the videos, acapellas, free downloads and whole albums of the beazly boys music for flea.
Anyway this board drew me to it due to my search for small art, at the time the avatars you guys had fooking rooled the interwebz. Then as I read the bollocks you supplied on a daily basis I decided to join up and contribute my sickness.
This site droolz!

I think we can rest assured that bailout monies will be supplied by the Jonas Brothers if we give out too many memberships without the proper vetting and the site tanks.
I first joined in January 2001. Not sure how I remember that. I had just turned fifteen years old. I've grown up with this board in the background at various points.
