ants are making a full-scale assault on my place of residence and despite my best efforts they seem to be gaining ground. I've tried baking powder, window cleaner, basically anything to hand. this morning I slaughtered about 70 of them with anti-mould spray. however, walking over the twitching corpses of their comrades only seems to strength their resolve, and the danger is this stuff is so toxic it'll probably poison me before it sees them off.

any ideas?

Boiling hot water....my dad used to do it, yes it's messy but it does the trick without any harsh chemicals.

an ice cream tub full of beer. place in a central place and they all get attracted to it, climb in and die a wonderful death.

or is that for cockroaches?

The only way to get rid of ants is find out where the source is coming from. You have to kill the mound(s) before you can kill the ones in the apartments. You also have to determine what kind of ants you are up against.

If I touch my aunt's mounds, my uncle would punch me in the face.

I was thinking something similar using orange cordial - I know it works with wasps...

bug spray around the outside of your home, ie in and around the crevices at the bottom of the foundation, walls, doors etc. get a bunch of ant baits (http://blog.compare4consumers.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/raid_ant_baits.jpg), and call an exterminator.

I've tried poison houses and they ignore it. I've tried cinammon trails and they never worked. I used RAID bug spray and it works like a charm, but it smells terrible and is really toxic.

Good luck, yo. I think I heard someone that vinegar spray helps kill them ...

actually i shouldn't have said bug spray, my bad. i meant stuff like this (http://www.homedepot.ca/wcsstore/HomeDepotCanada/images/catalog/21655.12-1603CAN_4.jpg) and this (http://ec-images.acehardwareoutlet.com/225/products/7206311_031309l_vs.jpg).

just go to any home improvement, renovation, tools, hardware, gardening etc store and they should be able to help you out.

When I was a kid a friend had this hole between some bricks at the front of his house. It was infested with ant, thousands coming out of this crack in the wall. It was great fun killing them. We'd throw boiling water on them, flame throw them with hairspray, whatever. I think the best one was to spray the hairspray in loads without lighting it, right into the hole, for ages, until the liquid was all leaking out of the wall, and then light it!

Damn kids, eh?
