So what's everyones plan for the long weekend? Road trip? Mini vaca? Relaxing? Working? I have a wedding in St. Joe Michigan on Saturday but we are coming back to Chicago on Sunday to take advantage of the long weekend. I really hate it when people get married on holiday weekends, it ruins any chances of you going anywhere. I don't think I have had a Memorial Day / Labor Day long weekend to myself in the past 3 years.
What's your plan?
I take the week after memorial day off every year (and the week after labor day). My birthday is Sunday, so it all rolls into one long shitfest. I have parties to go to this weekend as well as next weekend, I will probably go to the world famous Boardy Barn (www.BoardyBarn.com) on Monday and then recover for the rest of the week. I will probably take in a few rounds of golf and put the finishing touches on my Grad school application. I am fairly excited to lie in bed for a few days straight as well. May go tho the NHL store in NYC, anything can happen......

Indianapolis 500. Look for #2 to be the ROTY. I'm planning on it at least.
After that we head to a cottage just north/west of Indy. Lots of wave runners and a few boats to chill on. Plenty of BBQ and lots of beer for a few days, then back to work and off to Milwuakee by Thurs.
Memorial Day is my favorite time of year. I never feel more American than I do on Memorial Day weekend. 4th of July comes close, but really doesn't match up at all. Being at Indianapolis with the events and ceremonies they have for our fallen soldiers,Vets, and service members all week is a great thing to be a part of. Sunday just goes into overload and then the race starts. It seriously just doesn't get any better, anywhere.

Pretty much! Everyone thinks how great it will be because everyone can take the time to go to their wedding, but it sucks! Brett was going to be the best man for his friend's wedding over Victoria Day, but they broke up since then. While I do love weddings, I hated that they put it on the long weekend.
I'm BBQing this weekend, even if it isn't Memorial Day up hurr. That's about it.

Going to Sasquatch fest. Should be fun, though it's supposed to be hot.
We don't have such a thing.
But instead we have "Jesus goes to heaven" day tomorrow, when everything is closed.

Yeah, it sucks, but it helps the bride and groom in a few ways. Kinda like a Sunday wedding is less expensive than a saturday or even Friday wedding.A wedding on a holiday is even cheaper. Not many people want a wedding on a holiday in fear that many people wont come since people make plans for a holiday weekend. The church, reception hall, photographer, etc usually give price breaks to help make the date look more attractive. A wedding that could cost up to 15K on a Saturday in the second week of July, could cost 10K on Memorial Day weekend. The only thing is, will people show up, and when they do, are they pissed about it?
I don't get excited about going to any wedding at first, but right before you walk in, there's a buzz in the air you can feel. It's a great thing to be a part of.
Have fun!!

I'm an event planner, I know all this! I know it's cheaper and I know I dont have to go but I'd still have to send a gift.
I'm over the buzz in the air, I have stood up in over 10 weddings in the past 3years and attended I can't even tell you how many! There is nothing original at ANY of them, it's all been done before. Makes me want to elope.
At least I have Sunday / Monday.
Have fun at the Derby...a ton of my guy friends are going, there is no noise like the noise at the Derby.

i'll probably end up doing heaps of yard work. pretty much everything gets pushed off to the weekends, and i have an endless amount of work that needs to be done....
maybe i will work on the design of my bbq pit, so that it can possibly be ready to use by the next grilling holiday

Come on now. I felt the buzz in the air at a backyard wedding with 50 people. It's about the people, not the originality of the event. ;-)
I guess I can have fun just about anywhere. Except, one wedding where you could so tell the bride and groom were not in love. They just did it to say they did it. It was so obvious. One of the worst times I've ever had. The buzz was nowhere to be found. Just ashame when people marry for reasons other than love. Who could be that stupid???
Calling the 500 a derby kinda threw me for a sec, but when considering the horse power one engine creates, it could be considered the biggest derby in the world.

I like to think there was a buzz in the air at my wedding. It was the happiest I've felt in my life, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face all day. I came through the doors at the back of the church, more nervous than I've ever been and I saw my fiance waiting for me at the end of the aisle with the hugest, happiest smile I've ever seen. It was an amazing moment for me and hopefully those in attendance.

I'm leavin on a jet plane... goin to Mommy's in northern Wisconsin. It's going to be wayyyy too short, but I'm trying to conserve vacay days this year. Flying out Fri afternoon and back late Monday. Will definately spend time on a boat or two, prolly kick my bros ass in Scrabble, squeeze a bunch of young adorable family members, jump on a trampoline, sit by a campfire, drink a Leinenkugel's Beer or two or three or four and eat deep fried cheese curds, then hop on a dirt bike. (y) God I love 'HOME'. Above all else I'll enjoy being away from the LA fwys.

One of the few things that was great while being stationed in LA. Random crayfish shacks on the way home.
We used to buy 5lbs at a time and sit outside with a case of beer and just bullshit and eat.

Yep, it's gorgeous today, makes me wish summer lasted forever.
What are you guys gonna do while you're in town? Just curious. I'd recommend some stuff but you're hanging out with natives so I'm sure they've got it covered.
