the amount of countries of the world i have visited is astoundingly low:
England (obviously)
Wales (obviously)
Holland..well Amsterdam (pretty obviously)
France (once with school for a week)
Err, thats it.
never been to scotland even!
I blame the fact that my parents had a little caravan and we used to go to wales or the lake district for holidays and then when i got older i spent my time going to festivals a lot. I first went on a plane when i was 30! Its never bothered me before but now i think i need to go abroad more and give my kids more of a chance to go abroad.
Anybody been to less countries?
How many countries have you been to?
More than I have, considering I'll be 23 on Saturday.
I've been to Ohio and Chicago, IL in the states. I've been to Canada, but never farther than Stratford. And that's it!

I've been to Hawaii twice, PR, Cancun, and a border town called Ciudad Acuņa.
lots of travel within the States. two or three cross country road trips, if not more.
would like to see Europe in my life?

When I was young inter-rail was the shit!
I think I travelled that way at least half a dozen times (a few times just to get to the other side of Europe, there weren't any cheap flights then).
By the time I was 35 I'd lived in Finland, Sweden and Britain (London), been to Denmark, Norway, Germany, Spain, Holland, Belgium, France,
Greece, Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland (thanks to Beastie Boys), New York, Florida, Maldives and Turkey.
Since then I've been to Italy, too.

Guy, coming from a European that's pretty surprising. you can get on a plane and be in about 10 different countries within an hour and a half. as a Kiwi that still blows my mind, despite having come here so often. from NZ you fly for an hour and a half and land in the Pacific ocean. three and a half hours and one can get to Australia, but that place is like Lord of the Flies.
I'm 28 and have been lucky to have travel as a major feature for most of my life. not sure how many countries I've been to. the number is probably near my age.
Why would you ever want to leave the sunshine state of Lancashire Guy?
Also, I think I have been to:
Ireland, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Poland, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Oman, United Arab Emirates and China.
I have only been to Scotland twice, and that was on consecutive weekends a few summers back and I didn't want to go.

I'm more than certain that I've eaten dog and cat without even knowing.
It's factual that there's actually food chains of mcdonalds, burger king, taco bell and pizzza hut around of every popular strip of country that I've been to.

Its not like I have a fear of flying or the ambition to go to places its just been circumstances and money. I've never fancied going to resorts anywhere, i'm with bill hicks on that one "the beach is where dirt meets water". I'm just a point in my life where i feel like i should have experienced more cultures but if i am honest i would be quite happy going to florida or wherever to all the water parks etc with my kids once a year. I suppose i have always been a bit wary of the language barrier. I dunno. But i will be doing something to rectify it soon.

I think you should explore a bit more when your kids are sort of old enough to appreciate it. Travelling all over when I was younger was one of the best things ever.

My first an last plane ride was six years ago when I was 26. That bastard of a pilot slammed the plane down on the runway so hard that stuff fell out of the overhead compartments. I got off that plane and never looked back.

i think for americans its ok to have visited a few states and not travelled out of the us as its such a large place.
america is probably the number one destination i would like to go.
one of the problems i have with travelling is that the wife went to a lot of places when she was younger with her globetrotting parents and she doesnt have the same desire to travel now, she just wants to go to glastonbury festival every year. I should sell it to her by saying we need to give the kids the same opportunities she had i suppose.

I love traveling and wish I'd had the chance to do more of it before I got married, bought a house, and settled down with a stepson.
If you have the wherewithal to take your children traveling I'd say do it do it do it.

pretty awesome is not how I'd describe Australia. having been there about eight times I can safely say that not only is the place full of Australians, but it's also a death trap. spiders, snakes, crocodiles, sharks, sting-rays, imminent desertification. Mad Max 2 is right round the corner.
There seems to be some kind of exchange program with Australia going on here in West London where I am at the moment. 25-30 yr old Australians come and live here and tell everyone how great Australia is and how the weather here is terrible. Meanwhile we send over fresh-out-of-school gap year kids who come back without any money, an STI and a whole load of shit stories.

I was at a club a couple of weeks ago and met these dudes, one from England, one from Ireland, and one from Scotland. I told them I thought they were all supposed to hate each other and they just shrugged. They also had a friend from Australia but he wasn't in evidence that night.
If they can get along why can't you?

Man I feel like a morlock compared to you all. Only foreign country I've been to was Mexico City, Mexico where there was scorpions in our adobe. Never again, I'd rather have to take down a bear with a spear than sleep with scorpions.
Come to think of it I really haven't seen much of my own country, probably only a dozen or so states, most of which were driven through.

if i didn't puff so much over the years i could have visited more countries. :(
maybe moot is right, maybe i was marco polo in a previous life or summat but actually i think my reason for not travelling is probably similar to crafty's if i am honest.
i think i should have done a lot more travelling by now and not had such a green filled existence or gone to less festivals as its a lot more of a mission to go abroad with the bairns and that brings a whole list of things to think about when picking a destination.
The thing is, whilst i have desires to visit foreign lands, i am unsure whether i have missed out or not, i dont feel any less of a person cos i havent seen the leaning tower of pisa or whatever but its all the what ifs etc. Its like i have realised want to go to places but dont really know where to go or what to do. I still am not that inspired to go, so if you lot want to tell me the reasons why you have travelled and how you have benefitted that might help.
