View Full Version : would you clean a shower/sink drain in a saucepan?
my roommate is cleaning the bathroom and in order to clean the shower drain and the sink drain plug, she threw them in a saucepan full of boiling water (along with the drain catches from the kitchen sink). the saucepan that i regularly cook food in. and the drain plugs that regularly come into contact with soap, hair, shaving cream, saliva, toothpaste, paint (which is another issue) and goodness knows what else. in the saucepan. full of water
is this a normal thing to do, or am i justified in being upset about that? i've never seen anyone do it before, and my gut reaction is that it's an incredibly unsanitary thing to do but hey, maybe i'm wrong, maybe it's normal, i figured i'd check first

I wouldn't do it in a sauce pan because my pans are expensive and I like them to look like new (i.e. not scratched).
But in general, I think it won't be unsanitary so long as you clean the pan with really hot water. Honestly, chances are that your kitchen sink is as dirty as your shower and bathroom sink. And you probably wash that sauce pan in the sink, right? And how to you wash dishes? With a dirty sponge?
I'm a freak about my kitchen sink. If I prepare anything like chicken I have to scour the sink with comet cleanser and super hot water afterwards. I use a new sponge about once a week.

does seem a bit gross and unusual, but i don't see why it would really be bad for the pan
whats he think is going to happen? all your pubes will be boiled away?

i boiled a full pot of water in it a few times and scrubbed the hell out of it with a ton of soap. i do wash it in the sink but i'm careful not to touch any part of the sink while i'm cleaning a thing. i suppose the sponge is probably pretty dirty though

That is pretty bizarre. Why would you need the drain plugs to be sanitized? People are weird.

Just use a bucket of chemicals.

yeah i don't understand it either. their sole purpose is to catch filth, they're meant to be filthy, you aren't really supposed to touch them. i don't know why they need to go into cookware

oh i do
i'm pretty tired of living with roommates but i just can't afford to live alone in this city, it's too expensive. i wish i could though. i like knowing that i'll be able to do what i want, when i want in my own home. like if i want to wake up and take a shower, i'll know that nobody will be in there, or if i wake up with a boner and want to go out into the hall i won't have to worry about being seen, stuff like that

Maybe your roommate watches you in the shower and she's flirting with you?
