Tibetan Freedom Concert 99

10 years ago I went to the Tibetan Freedom Concert that was at Alpine Valley Music Theater in Wisconsin. This was the show that had Eddie Vedder, Deborah Harry, Rage, Run DMC, the Beasties among others.

Anyway, I've seen the professionally shot footage of a couple of songs...but never more than like two songs. So as I'm surfin' youtube I came across this nice two-parter.

99 was the year that their live sets just got fucking unstoppable with Mixmaster. This being the last one is a real treat to see. Cheers, Lave.

I was there... I remember a whole gang of knucklehead/Pantera fans began chucking waterbottles at the heads of the people in front of them, and many people were rude/uncaring about the purpose of the concert. It was a really odd benefit. I remember there being a lot of sleazy goateed white trash looking dudes with like Master P tee-shirts on walking around with their fake pimp limps... I mean seriously, I don't think these kids realized the Beastie's had been making other records since Licensed to Ill, and they didn't really know what a Tibet was...
