i'm moving... will my vinyl collection be safe during long car drive?

i'm driving about 1,200 miles and it's about 18 hours.

i have about 470 cds and 300 records. they are the only thing i'm taking besides my stereo, computer and clothing.

i'm very worried about my records being exposed to sunlight for a long period of time. has anyone ever taken their records on a long road trip? does anyone have some advice to keep them cool?

the air conditioner in my car kinda sucks so i dunno if the windows being down will be enough. maybe i can cover them up with something. someone mentioned putting them in my trunk with some dry ice... does that sound like a good idea? does dry ice last for a long time? will it really get that hot in the trunk without dry ice?

any advice would be nice.

Dry Ice is CO2 - Carbon Dioxide.
It's around -300 degrees in a solid form.
Shit's way too cold. It'll freeze a 12oz can of beer solid in about 2 minutes.
As it sublimates (thaws and turns to it's gas state), it'll fill your car's atmosphere with CO2 gas, therefore depleting the car of oxygen and you will pass out.
If you're not removed from that oxygen depleted environment you will quickly die.

unless you have some acetates you should be fine, toss a thin blanket over them and keep your windows cracked
