I typically look forward to most Pixar movies because I'm kind of a loser, but I have next to no interest in seeing this movie at all.

from the previews I wasn't all that intrigued. How is it compared to other Pixar attempts?

The 6 year old loved it. The 3 year old was mostly engaged. Or so the grands tell me.

Bit of a spoiler alert ahead...I thought it was great, although I was a little taken aback by the miscarriage thing. (I think that's what it was indicating). Yowza, that's a big deal for a "kids" movie, even though Pixar obviously attracts a large adult audience.
Between that and the short film with the stork beforehand, I was wondering how many parents were going to be answering seXorz questions by the youngins.
Ttly cried.

I was impressed by the very adult and serious themes in the movie. Miscarriage, death, then the fact that not everyone's family is perfect (i.e. the boys Father not being around). But I want to commend Pixar for that.
I really like the messages in it. And especially that despite the fact that it isn't the typical "family unit" at the end, it's still happy. Like real life can be.
All of the characters are animated well. Even when they're not talking. I think this one's almost as good as The Incredibles.

I'd like to add that I don't really cry, especially when it comes to movies.
I think the only movie that made me cry was Big Fish.
The first 15 minutes of this movie, I was struggling HARD. I cried but if I let myself go I would have balled and wailed.

I just don't like talking about my feelings/looking like I got punched in the face repeatedly for 24 hours. That's how bad my eyelids puff when I cry.

I thought it was too sad and boring. and not fantastical enough to warrant some of the logic inconsistencies. I think that on multiple occasions they could've gotten back into the house and steered it.
otherwise, it was visually stunning and had very likable characters. no complaints there.
it's funny, I had the same reaction as my little cousin who's 6. we have eerily similar personalities.
as for floating adventure stories, James and the Giant Peach is better.

I'm going to the be that guy who criticizes all of you for being in your twenties and crying at a movie for children even though I love Toy Story 2...fags.

How can you totally not cry at the "When She Loved Me" scene in Toy Story 2. It's so utterly heartbreaking. The poor little cowgirl doll! So happy to be with the girl again! And then she leaves her in a box by the side of the road! Oh god, I am welling up now just thinking about it.

Up dealt with very serious adult themes, oddly enough.
