the air conditioning in my office gets turned on sometime in may or june, regardless of the weather outside (it seems to me). it is FREEZING in here. im seriously freezing my little fingers off, my coffee went cold mad quick this morning, and im using a laptop on my lap to keep warm. i dont understand why this is kept this way. in the winter, they turn on the fans during the day too, because they think that the offices get too warm overnight. i could understand wanting to bring a little circulation in the winter, so it doesn't get too stuffy, but geez, on mild spring/summer days, cant we just open some windows?

how's your office's temperature setting? do you want to hurl objects at the untouchable thermostat, like i do?

It's pretty cold in here today too. I have nipples like bullets.

oh man, i'd love to be too cold! or.. would i? i don't know.

my office is basically like a huge conservatory. they spent all the money in projection (it's a cinema etc) and their air conditioning so all the expensive equipment doesn't, you know, burst into flames.

so we don't have air conditioning, that's too expensive. we have big fuck off fans that just circulate the hot air. when the sun is out it it's like your sitting in a huge greenhouse.. after lunch everyone just slumps and you don't have energy to do anything.

i brought this up with the friggin staff council to see if anything can be done because we're all basically getting cooked alive. if anyone knows of any cost effective, green (everything the business does has to be green) ways of cooling an office down bar sitting in a bath of ice cubes please let me know.

i keep on saying I'M SCOTTISH I'M NOT USED TO THIS. i have warned everyone that yes, i am going to constantly complain all summer about the heat. if i was outside, fine, but your productivity at work just steadily decreases on a hot day.. oh man. i had to buy sandals the other day - sandals! exposing my fucking feet! that is very, very unlike me. but i have been pushed to the summery edge. sigh.

Thankfully at my current job, I'm in control of the thermostat :D

But in the past, I've worked at offices that keep it FREEZING. It'd be summer and blazing hot out, and I'd want to wear a cute summer but office appropriate dress. Especially so I don't sweat while in my AC-less car and while walking outside for lunch.

Instead I'd have to wear heavy jeans and a sweater. In freakin summer. My hands would be ice. Once my fingers were so cold my fingernails looked purple.

I hate office AC's. (n)

hot offices are pretty fucked up when you hate your job... you get all sleepy and lazy. i think office managers put up the thermostats to keep everyone jittery and awake

Bull. Having been in 130 degree heat for a summer, I can tell you that I'd rather be a bit 'nippy' than have to put up with that again. Okay EXTREME cold is bad, but usually you can just put another layer on and you'll be fine. I'm a very hot person anyway and generate a lot of heat, so cold weather is good for me.

Monkey,

Do they keep the company servers near your area or something that requires it to be chilly like willy?

thankfully in the extremes, the office is pretty well regulated. the problem is when like, in march when we have an 80 degree day and the boiler is still turned on. then everybody fries in here.

i'd much rather be cold though. us fellas don't have the liberty to wear sandals and skirts like you ladies, so it really sucks when its really hot and you leave at the end of the day with nasty sweaty socks and sweaty balls

not in the least. the temperature control is in no way associated to concerns of overheating any kind of equipment. really, other than my section of the offices, for the most part, they barely even have computers up here.

**gross addendum*** my boss just came into my office. i guess he realized i was cold and wanted to warm up my office, so he farted. repeatedly. loudly. im so grossed out.
