Last christmas I made a plum pudding and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. It was the most delicious thing I've ever eaten, no contest. It was amazing. To try to explain exactly what it tasted like, saying it had brandy in it, spices, raisins, and butter....that doesn't even do it justice.

I made it about 3 days after Thanksgiving, and it sat in the fridge until I warmed it up on Christmas day. Don't be freaked out, that's how you're supposed to enjoy it. It gets better with age. Besides, it had so much brandy in it, nothing could have survived - including any memories I had of past food loves, once that spongey delight hit my tongue.

It was kind of pain to make, to steam it for 5 hours and to wait an entire month to enjoy it. I've found some recipes for other puddings that don't require so much patience. Some of them were baked, some steamed.

English people, do you enjoy puddings very often? Do you make them very often? What kinds? Are they only for special occasions? Tell me things about them, please.

I had a spotted dick once, but I went to the doctors and got it sorted.

Blood pudding...ughhh...but hey...isn't tapioca "English pudding" cause that's good eating...and rice pudding I recall as well...anything with candied fruit in it should be illegal...Bill Cosby say's it's so...I do enjoy a good boozy brown sugar concoction as well...

I don't like christmas pudding or spotted dick because i'm not keen on dried fruit, sultanas etc. But give me a good, old fashioned treacle sponge, jam roly poly with custard or Eve's pudding and i'm in heaven (y)

I have never actually made a steamed pudding myself...bit of a hassle with all that wrapping the bowl in muslin, tying up with string and steaming for hours.

School puddings were the best. Rainbow sponge (sponge coloured with green/pink/red food colouring) with lashings of chocolate custard on top.

We are also rather good at making tarts - i love treacle tart and bakewell tart.

I'm making myself drool just writing this...

I didn't wrap the bowl in muslin, I just covered it with foil then placed an inverted plate on top to seal the edges.

What are school puddings? They served these things to you in school?!

Bread and butter pudding is the king of all puds.
