Or the real answer:

D) Nas recorded a vocal track and it's playing while he raps over it. (n)

It's Nas's voice and it's every syllable of his rhyme. Definitely not a hype man. Must've lacked confidence to hit the track right. You'd think he'd step it up cause the bboys sure as shit don't rhyme over no backing vocal tracks.

The Beastie Boys have given me a lot of joy, and I hate to complain...but their lyrics are so dated. It really stands out alongside Nas. I love Nas too, and fair play to the Bboys for a great track but its same old same old raps, heard it all before (oh my gorgeous/goodness/golly/gee....on an on till the crack of dawn, I'm just surprised Mike D didnt mention he's a scorpio).

Mike D has improved, Adrock has not. MCA is always great. Still looking forward to the record though, still love listening to them, just don't hold my breath for new flows

i feel the exact opposite. Adrock killed that track, but MCA's raps were near embarassing. Mike sounded solid, but not amazing. Nas' verse wasn't too impressive really, and waaayyy too short. if Nas' part on the record sounds as phoned in and brief as the live version, then talk about a real waste of a great cameo appearance.

ultimately, though, just the idea of the bboys and Nas collaborating excites me enough to turn a blind eye (or ear) on the track's inadequacies. plus it's a crappy recording live rendition. can't wait to hear the polished edition.(y)

Okay, so I just realized that the first audio posting that I listened to was only the first half of the song. Consequently my intitial thoughts flip-flopped for the second half. Yauch's second verse is choice, possibly my fav. Mike and Horovitz bring it down a notch, and thank god there's more Nas on there than I originally was led to believe. It's hard to gauge Nas' effectiveness when he's sandwiched in between the bboys cuz his style is so different. But he always sounds on point on record (lyrically at least), so I'm feeling really good about the studio version. Santogold and Nas? Could we be expecting more guest surprises down the line here?

#1) It's definitely "crab." Just listen to it.
#2) I think Yauch's first verse is pretty weak, too.
#3) I've been sourpussing shit too, for the first time, EVER. I'm even disappointing myself.
#4) I will forever call this album "Tadlock's." Not "Hot Sauce Committee." Not "Tadlock's Glasses." Just "Tadlock's." When the first stuff started leaking I created a folder on my computer titled, "Tadlock Shit," and that's the way it's staying!:)

If any of them had even remotely tried to ape Nas' flow on the song, you'd all be up in arms about how corny and forced it sounded. Props to them for coming at the song the way they do. Yeah it's a little tried and true, but it works because it's natural.

As Pmoney mentioned, MCA with the tribute to Nas is gold, Horovitz calling himself grampa and his whole 4 fly guys flow. Gold. Michael, well he pretty much carried TT5B so it was to be expected. If they tried something outlandish for the song chances are everybody would be complaining about that.

We can all agree to disagree, but they're never going to please everybody. I love the track, love Lee Majors, and will tolerate In the Cut based on the other two alone. Just because I like it I don't expect everybody to do so, I just want to balance shit up a little. There's a lot of umms and ahs about this.

uh huh. personally, anyone complaining about this track should just give up on the new album. the beat is sick, the rhymes are tight, but as you point out it's the delivery that kills it. i'm a nas fan - well, he's pretty hit and miss - but i agree that adrock and mca in particular simply sound way better and more effective, never mind what the rhymes are.

having said that the rhyming is good anyway!

Probably.

I will say it's nice how the 3 songs all seem to capture 3 completely different vibes, which is something I haven't really felt since Ill Communication. Like they're all stylistically distinct, with their own identities. Plus everybody likes wildly varying combinations of the 3. The album should have a bit of personality if this output is anything to go by.

Don't really know where to put this, but am I the only one who thinks B Boys In The Cut is better than anything on TT5B?

While I reserve a special place in my heart for TT5B, I do consider it their lowest point. A low point in relation to some very high peaks though, might I add.

If the beat we presently have for BBITC is really the real deal Holyfield, then I'd have to say it's a new low.

Just my opinion, please don't crucify me :o.

I couldn't disagree more. I think the beat for BBITC is bumpin. Them jammin' looped up with an extra layer or two of candy-flavored sprinkles on top.

This just sounds good to my ears. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQ2yjqXKFnc)

Yeah, because the acapella came from vinyl.

well, yeah. But hadn't somebody figured out how to sync it up properly by now? I swear I heard at least one that sounded good. You went out of your way to say that it sounded good to your ears, why not link up one of the good ones?

I did link up the one that sounds good to me. It's not exactly perfect...but it's damn close. If the remixers wanted to use a thicker nanotube they could probably get the syncing down perfect.
