Anyone see The Roots perform their new single "How I Got Over" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr2w_EOwB8E) on Fallon last nite? It's dope, Black Thought is deffinatly in my top five!
While I'm at it my top five in no particular ranking order and based on over all abiltiy to rock the mic and move the crowd, plus creativity:
Black Thought
Andre 3000
The King Ad-Rock
Ice Cube
Ol' Dirty Bastard

ODB? Really? He was always hammered on stage and seldom came up with his own rhymes. I don't know how he could really be considered creative. Maybe in terms of flow on tracks, but even that is a stretch...
Black Thought can't be fucked with though. I agree with you there.

That's not true. He would freestyle till his rhyme feel apart, then rewind to the breaking point and freestyle more after that. Even B.I.G. said ODB's style of creating raps was an inspiration.
But ya, I knew he would catch some flak on a top five list. If you ever saw him on stage around the 'Return to the 36th Chambers' thought 'Wu-Tang Forever' era’s (or basically up until the cops opened fire on him in his SUV), he was pretty awesome on stage. After that his mania took over and he was a train wreck on stage. His rhymes on 'Ni**a Please' are amazing, even though you can almost hear the cocaine dripping from his nose!
Anyone else put Black Thought in their top five? How about thoughts on ODB's creativity?

I always liked The Dirty Version because it sounds like barely a word of it was ever written down.
And Black Thought is one of my all time favourites, but he's James Brown? Did he do the splits and sweat like a motherfucker?

that why I said of Hip-Hop.... Ya got a better candidate?;)
Oh, and I was working as a runner at a James Brown show years back and his team made me get a perm setting chair like in the beauty shops, for his dressing room. LOL
He sounded great on stage, but backstage I could barley understand him when he spoke!
