yeah the Godfather dying got plenty of coverage, there a huge funeral procession in Harlem at the Apollo and a private one in Georgia, it was all over the news and even MJ himself was there, looking more like a corpse than James Brown himself.

It's not a contest. And if it were, it would be a shit one.

James Brown was and is fucking amazing. There is NO doubting that. And although ALL Generations should be in love with his music, oddly enough there are still lots of young folks that don't know much about his music.

I think the reason why the news is so big surrounding MJ is because a lot of people alive right now are the generation that grew up to his music. To see someone like him, with that music, being in awe of that, his dancing, persona and the magic that seemed to surround him... it's extremely significant.

Yeah man what she said.

The year before the Beastie Boys plyed Good Vibrations, James Brown was the headliner. Like one of his last shows ever. And he tore the roof off it. Of course, being open air, that's a bold call.

Its days like today I'm so glad I don't have a TV or listen to the radio cus I know I wouldn't be able to avoid it. All my Michael Jackson news has come from here and the odd crap on twitter but if any1 mentions him twice they are getting unfollowed (although I've allowed The Onion to get away with it).

This shit will go on for years, I mean Princess Diana is still news and I was burnt out of that less than 24 hours after the event.

Yeah, so I have little attention span - I'm not wishing death on any1, just take my advice - turn off your TV and radio and listen to your environment instead.

I disagree...the bit's that were covered nationally were pretty sparse and lacked in biographical detail...the media payed heavier attention to the debacle between his family and how long he remained above ground...CNN finally acknowleged him with "James Brown,Say it Proud" like 6 months after his death...

I'm sorry you are upset. I'm sure the media will give us some good Jackson Family Drama in the coming weeks...

Keep your head up, the thread title still stands

agreed. michael jackson sold over 750 million albums, thats a lot. a lot more than jimmy brown.
altough it wasnt as expected i never thought the guy was gonna last until he could draw his pension, he was pretty much a shadow in this millenium imo.

james brown was a PROVEN jerk, but MJ was only an alleged jerk.

i did not care for james brown, nor his music, and i know plenty of people who felt the same way. what a jerk he was.
