Had this debate with a friend in light of the death of MJ.
His contention is that MJ is in the top 5 live acts of modern music.
(And for the sake of argument we're not including classical composers like Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, or the like)
My list:
Jimi
The Ramones
Nirvana
Sinatra
The Doors
His list:
Beatles
MJ
Jimi
Nirvana
Sublime

I got Zeppelin, Bob Marley & The Wailers and Johnny Cash as shoo-ins.
Chronologically, in my life, they would have all been over 60 at the time of performance, but I didn't complain seeing Page/Plant or even Bob Dylan/Willie Nelson in their golden years. Got to see Floyd in '94 too.
Sublime and Nirvana in the mid 90's were shows I definitely would have seen but missed out on...

falco.
JANIS fucking JOPLIN..... by far, hands down #1, didn't even have to think about it... If I was assured that there was a God and a heaven, and Janis Joplin was playing up there (or down there, what ever the case maybe), I would put a fucking bullet in my head right now.
Warzone
The Doors
Blind Melon
Queen
top 3 are all that really mean anything to me..... saw RUN-DMC too

Let's be honest. That album was released for one reason, and one reason only,
G.W. Bush.
It was slapped together quickly and it showed.
I think even the Beasties acknowledge it's their weakest effort.

Also, I still regret never going to see the Grateful Dead while Jerry was alive.
Closest I ever got was hanging out in the parking lot before a Dead show somewhere around '88 or '89 doing 'shrooms with some Deadheads.
I always dug their scene, but didn't start to appreciate their music until I got older.

Btw, I've seen the Buzzcocks play yesterday. It was awesome to've seen them before they're dead. They totally rocked too. But if they keep playing as long as the Rolling Stones do, I'll probably get to see them play in about 30 years from now.
