Aww, bless them! And thank them for me please!

The sweetest part of this is that he took back Wellstone's seat. That election six years ago was a motherfucker.

NOWHERE TO RUN TO BABY, NOWHERE TO HIDE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhcflDSUMvc) should be the theme song for the Dems in 2009.

Al Franken is about the worst thing that could happen to the Democratic Party.

Franken won't matter.
He was already acting weak after one day in Washington saying he is looking forward to working with Republicans.
What?
He should be chewing their heads off.
That's why liberals voted for him, wasn't it?

Franken is very leftist and he will help push the Democratic party into a direction that I don't believe the American people wish to head. Polling suggests most Americans remain fiscally conservative, and this puts them at odds with recent trends among the Dems, who can basically do what they want without opposition.
The problem is that even with the 60 votes and the Presidency, the Dems are weaklings.
Reid and Pelosi, weak,...Obama, WEAK.
I mean it's only been 7 months and Obama's already breaking campaign promises.
They won't or can't ram policy down the Repbublicans throats like they did to them without a supermajority. Not only are they weak, they're terrified.
It's always a lot easier to be a critic than to be the ones in charge.
Liberal voters and activists worked hard to get these clowns in and are already PO'd that their agenda isn't being implemented. I have no idea why the Democrats are so intent on "reaching across the aisles" to a party that clearly doesn't want to work with them. They should be steamrolling policy through right now. The DNC is still a joke of a party that still can't get it right with a president and 60 votes.
The Republicans won't be down for long, liberal voters seem to hate what they are seeing from these guys.
As bad as it was in 2002-2006, when the Republicans were in charge, they never had 60 votes in the Senate. Now the Democrats do. They have, for the first time in decades, complete control of our legislature and Presidency. And when things go wrong, (as they inevitably will) it'll be difficult to blame the Republicans. This will end up bad for Democrats and will be a historic failure of leadership that will cost them many seats in the next election.
If (when) bad things happen, and now that Franken has given the Dems the 60 they needed for Supermajority,
they have nowhere to run to baby, nowhere to hide (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhcflDSUMvc).

The flaw in your thinking is that you think the Dems are any better.
6 months in and your beloved democratic leadership has just stuck you with a larger deficit than the past 5 years combined, years in which we were waging two wars.

...and we haven't even really begun facing the healthcare issue yet.

Did I mention unemployment is approaching 11% and growing?
I'd say things are going swimmingly so far under the Dems, wouldn't you?

I live in Washington State, Al Franken is a freshman senator from Minnesota. You have proven to me that you're ignorant about my political beliefs and probably everyone's you disagree with on this board. I am sure I've presented a much clearer understanding of our economic woes than you here in this very forum (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=91883). It is much darker than some political divide, honestly now, how different do you really think these two parties are?

We've been debating politics practically on a daily basis for, oh I dunno, let's say roughly a year now.
I'm pretty sure I understand your political beliefs by now, Yeahwho.

I'm also fully aware of your geographical location, as well as Al Franken's, although I'm not really sure what relevance it has.
We're talking about Franken giving the Dems the 60 votes they need for cloture, right? I'm losing what your point is about you being from Wash. St. and Franken from Minn.?

As for my opinion of how different these two parties are, I think they're drastically different, yet almost equally flawed.
But as far as economic issues go, the Dems are as reckless as a drunken sailor at a whorehouse with one pocket full of $20's and another pocket full of condoms.

The other problem I have (and my original point I tried to make in this thread) is that I abhor the fact that one party has complete control of policy making.
It's not only a bad thing for the country, it's a very bad thing for the party in power.
I realize that the reason is because the GOP (mainly Bush & Cheney) fucked up so bad the people couldn't vote for a Democrat fast enough.
We, as a country swerved too hard to the left back in November.

Will any of this help the GOP?
Who knows?
The leadership of the GOP is so inept, and so many of it's politicians are so beholden to social conservatives that it's difficult to see a comeback on the horizon.
Based on charisma alone, I think Obama will be re-elected in 2012 because there simply is no one that I can see that will challenge his popularity, no matter what happens to the economy. But this does not mean the Dems will be successful as a party.
Like I said, when the shit goes down, there's gonns be no one else to blame but the Dems.

Actually the only thing you understand is divisiveness. That is the intent of this discussion. Neither party has the correct answer here.

I have no response to you other than the policies put in place by both dems and repubs are going to destroy America beyond any factors you've mentioned above.

The phrase "Made in America" means nothing to either party.

The intent of this discussion as far as my POV is that Franken getting elected is about the worst thing that could have happened to the Democratic Party as now it places all of the responsibility of Americas' problems directly and solely on the shoulders of the Dems.

You've pretty much lost the ability to place the blame on both parties now, so don't give me that "both dems and repubs are going to destroy America" crap.
This is on your parties shoulders now bro.
You lobbied long and hard for this throughout the campaign last year.
Congratulations, you're the big winner.

EDIT: Also Knuckles, I have PLENTY to say about your question. But it's gonna have to wait until tommorrow as it's past midnight and an old man needs his sleep.

Obama is head and shoulders above McCain and the best man won. Franken is brilliant, an asset to any party. You come on here and berate people for their political beliefs, they explain to you what that is and then you ignore them and try to belittle them through a moronic statement such as the one above.

You have no insight into the financial crisis America is currently experiencing, but seem pretty sure that because the democrats have power at this point in time it must be their fault. Holding both Republicans and Democrats accountable takes cooperation of which you've demonstrated you are incapable of.

Fly off the handle some more, you've given me insight into a segment of America that is truly ignorant, the ranting raving 0 solution uninformed armchair economist.

Understood. Obama is the right man at the right time and without a twinge of any sort of regret, his ability to be fluid during this crisis has pretty much maintained civility amongst the American and Global populous in what obviously is one of the biggest corporate heists ever put upon mankind.

I am still amazed that people aren't rioting in the streets after watching some of the latest profits the major banking institutions have reaped. All this while 14,000 people everyday lose their jobs.
