My moms has had her shih tzu since 94, she was only a couple of weeks old when my mom got her.

She's still playful, she had a few complications such as tearing her acl when she was playing with my aunt's huge golden retreiver.

Well, my mom wanted to take her in for dental work and the vet declined because the results of her ECG showed that she had a bad heart and he advised my mom to take her to have a pacemaker put in.

It would involve my mom taking her to OSU for 3 days and $2,8000. Well my mom declned, decided that 15 years is a well lived life for a dog, especially since she's as energetic as she is.

I don't know, is this a common thing? A dog with a pacemaker? I'm with my mother on this. It seems so unnatural. Let a dog live like a dog.

that sounds about right. 15 years is good. is she gonna die without the procedure?

vets are fucking thieves. i took my friends dog to the vet when they were away for looking a little mopey (they asked me to so i did) and i was in there for 15 minutes. they took a blood sample and took her temperature. $380.

we figure she's going to die regardless. A pacemaker might add 4 more years or so. It's probably 4 more years that she wouldn't want to go through.

She has had some heart related troubles before but she is doing alright since then.

True with the theiving bastards part. The dental work would've cost her $700. I'm not too sure what needed to be done but it sounds too much. Almost more than my false molar procedure that I just had.

No, we're sure he's kicked the bucket. It's going on 3 months since we've seen him and he used to come through work at least 4 times a day, everyday.

Not at age 15. My dog was 13 when he somehow hit his head accidentally and the only way to save him was with brain surgery (and that might not have even worked). I paid $200 to get him medication to reduce his swelling and relieve his pain, just enough to make him comfortable until we could get him to the vet in the morning and have him put to sleep peacefully (his injury happened at 11 at night, so we had to go to the emergency vet at that time).

It really sucks, especially when you know they could have another few years, but it's crazy ridiculously expensive and you don't even know what their quality of life would be like after those big surgeries.

I thought this thread was going to be about keeping a pacemaker as a pet, putting it on a leash, taking it for walks in the park etc. You'd save on dog food and there'd be no cleaning up shit every 10 minutes.

Excellent idea eric. (y)
