The director of operations just called me and invited/insisted I attend a function tonight at the Stampede...it's the daily evening Chuck races...they have a swanky box, open bar, buffet galore...now the problem being is that there are 2 rodeo events I specifically want to see banned...one of them is calf roping and the other the chuckwagon races...I support the local s.p.c.a and humane society by petition and have boycotted the grounds ever since I moved to this city...however there are some people at this function that I realy need to press palms with...the board of directors will be there and there will be announcement about a new site,etc,etc...it's really in my best interest career wise...so to put on the stupid hat and some jeans and go smooze or to live by principal alone?...shit...thought?...
Even just last night they ran a horse to death:

will you going bring the event extra money?
will they be "a ticket short" or profits if you don't go?
are you in a position to do something about what you have a problem with?
will you meeting these people put you in a better position to do something about it?
do you think everyone in attendance likes what goes on there?

will you going bring the event extra money? = Nope
will they be "a ticket short" or profits if you don't go? = Nope
are you in a position to do something about what you have a problem with? = given that an animal died last night I think raising the issue at the
event would be suicidal,so to speak...
will you meeting these people put you in a better position to do something about it? = it's the most "prestigous" and expensive element of the rodeo, people love it...it's a yearly corporate Calgary tradition...so no...
do you think everyone in attendance likes what goes on there? = Christ I hope to think not,I know the team/reps from our division (all 3 of us) are all generally opposed to rodeo in all it's forms...turn the cheek, blind the eye...
yo,good points of thought...

these people you want to press palms with, they don't actually run this rodeo/event, right?
i mean, it seems like this event just happens to be held in a setting that you do not agree with. i'd say go ahead and schmooze a bit, maybe just make a short showing. is it possible that you show up, make your rounds, and get out before the main event starts? that would show these people that you are making the effort, regardless of how you might feel about the goings on there.

Oh no they don't run it but they support it yearly...most of them are from the oil and gas sector and are major funders of our program which is not for profit...in general it's a bit of wealthy sleaze scene...however bottom dollar is that without their generosity our mission statement and ability to deliver serices would be impossible to maintain...really,they're trying to extend a courtesy and recognize our efforts...but there's a high level of "look how grand we are, being red neck philanthropist's like this"...good suggestions...i'll try and head out before the cigar girl start's to make her rounds...I kid you not...there's something about these guy's and their often trophy wives,in the 10 gallon hat's,3 thousand dollar boots,2 grand belt buckles and silver bolo ties that grinds me out...

All good points........and if you make any money (you, not your company) as a result of going (e.g. promotion, bonus etc) why not donate some to one of the charities that oppose this kind of thing?

That's funny...I used to have this old sex pistols t-shirt when I was a kid that had 2 cowboy's standing face to face with their dicks hanging out and it said "cock fight" below...that would go over well,I think...:D
you're a faggot. animals are property. stop making everything a big production. get over yourself.
