Looks like it was going to be a release for Record Saturdays at indie record stores 7/18, they said it was going to be 7/21, and there is no date on dusty groove.
No picture sleeve for this one folks....

This really should be a lead single as it sounded very good live and a has a catchy chorus, i could see this grabbing more fans for the Beasties.
This may be like the mistake they made with TT5B when they didnt release An Open Letter to NYC as the lead single in stead of Ch-check it out.
Just imagine Open Letter as the lead single to stir attention awareness for the TT5B album!(y)

the sample on amazon sounds flat....
"the 80s, the 90s, 2000 and so" = "we got to take the power from he"

snippet i heard on amazon sounds nice.
I think MCA's verse sounds good. I mean cmon, if you compare it to one of the beastie boys biggest songs Pass the Mic with MCA saying "and this is me yall an emcee yall, my name is MCA and i still do what I please" that line right there = we got to take the power from he.
It also sounds flat compared to Adrocks live verse because he always sounds 10x more energetic live. Thats just the nature of hearing it live before the recorded version.

I love that "we got to take the power from he" is being held as the litmus test for poor quality Beastie lines. It's sooooooo bad.

The first time I heard the snippet on amazon I was a bit taken aback cuz it was faster live, but after listening to it a couple times its really dope. It's going to be a great track.

I thought "everybody rappin' like it's a commercial...." was also the standard in shitty bboy lines.
I always kinda liked "we got to take the power from he." :o

i always liked that one because it was a mistake that was intentionally left the way it was. yet it still sounded good to me.

I always liked the commercial line. Besides, comparing Thats It Thats All to Pass The Mic is blasphemous. Pass The Mic is probably the best Beastie Boys song ever. Definitely my personal favorite.

An Adrock's second verse when performed live always blows me away. Especialy when MMM drops ""Dirt Off Your Shoulder".

Pass The Mic is their best song that has the weakest lyrics.

Weak lyrics dont bother me all that much, if it sounds good, im cool with it.

I can feel that statement. Has it's moments, but overall can get a little corny.
Though after reading this interview with Yauch for a Tibetan zine, I came to respect it a bit more. He said that around that time (CYH) was when they started to consciously make an effort to say more positive things in their rhymes. While sometimes these efforts can come off a bit sappy, I was glad to hear that it was at least a conscious evolution as opposed to them just really letting their lyricism slide.

Lyrically, "Pass The Mic" is kind of weak, but everything else more than makes up for it. The beat, the ill bassline, the music video. You get lost in it and you don't really pay attention to the lyrics after a while.

If you want complex multi's, punchlines and iambic pentameter, go and find it. Or, spit some rhymes yourself. Maybe then we'll see what 'weak' is. When I want to listen to the Beastie Boys, I listen to the Beastie Boys.

i actually tried what is supposed to be one of the best on Bleaker and they said they don't even buy singles. F! i'm going to get a friend to pick one up at my home town store, Criminal Records, for when i get back to the ATL. thanks for the suggestion.
