On the song Life Is Better from Q-Tip's album The Renaissance, Q-Tip gives a shout out to practically every hip hop act or artist he has ever been associated with or seems to respect. Except the Beasties. For someone who has worked with and apparently was a friend of the band, it seems kind of messed up for him not to give props to the Beasties on such a poignant song. :(

only reason i'm posting on this thread is because i was thinking the same thing. i just had it on in the car yesterday and i mentioned that to my wife lol.. he mentions fat boys and skinny boys and no beastie boys! wicked song anyways besides the 5 minutes of that lady singing the same line over and over and over and over

That's because he knows he sucked on GIT and didn't want anyone to check for it.. yup!

This is so crazy cause iv been thinking the exact same thing for the last few weeks iv had that song playing.
I love that verse so much that I cut it out so its just that verse from the song an always play it in my car. Its such a good verse.
An iv seen a lot of live footage of him doing that verse an he spits it so perfect, but yeah iv also wondered why he didnt say Beasties !
I doubt they would have seen much of each other over the years. An it prob wont happen but id love to see another song with Tip cause as iv said before Beastie's an Q-Tip are the only artists I have absolutly every song/remix of.

RUN DJ, LL Hey Biz Markie, Doug E Oh, Barry B.

Iv spent a lot of time looking for lyrics of "Life Is Better" for that verse but theres none anywhere to be found.

Huh, I was thinking I'd just been missing where he says them, and that I'd catch it eventually. Damn.

Yeah, I think he even mentions Lil Wayne at one point. And the Fat Boys? Clearly more deserving of recognition than the Beasties. Why miss them out? It's not like they're La Coka Nostra or something.

Yeah I still think Q-Tip is awesome. The Renaissance album is worthy of the renaissance for sure! Gettin Up is such an amazing and sweet song.

Yeah, I couldn't understand that either. And it was only like 3 or 4 years ago I read an interview with Q-Tip in Remix or EQ or something wherein he said (at the time at least) that the only hip-hop he listens to anymore was Run-DMC and the Beastie Boys. The Beasties belong in that verse above alot of other name drops in there. Oh well.

So after hearing the Ill Communication commentary, the beasties were talking about Q tip and a guy from the Jungle Brothers. I saw them in the Skills to Pay the Bills video right after Netty's Girl. They have the VHS date on March 29 or close 1992. Not sure if they were in New York then but April 29. 1992 was a big day in California. Sublime has a good song about it.

Kev G, hold onto those Fat Boys albums, they might be worth something.

Yep.

It's possible. Not claiming he's racist, but it might be easier/prudent for Tip to stick with black folk when shouting out to 'real' hip-hop on what's kind of a comeback/almost do-or-die album.

Maybe he still holds a grudge against them because he wasn't given a shout out on "Dedication"
