for me it's lee majors, too many rappers, then bboys in the cut.. lee majors is the most genre mixing beastie defining moment ever, blending the two types of music they have perfected while sounding perfect together.. and then too many rappers is just so good on different levels! getting hyped, y'all!!!

Can really bob to this track. Loving the beat being stopped at the end lines of some of the verses an being able to hear them finish the line acapella, then boom, the beats back.
Yauch's Hurricane Twister rhyme was gold too.

And hey, anybody catch the Will.I.Am diss? Hillarious!
"So get your hologram on off of Wolf Blitzer"
Mic Check Nas
Mic Check
One (one) two (two) three (three)
Too many rappers and there's still not enough emcees
It goes three (three) two (two) one (one)
MCA, Adrock, Mike D that's how we get it done like
Ladies and gents attention, Nas in the house
With Beastie Boys we can turn it out
Perpetrators we can point 'em out
So if you got somethin' on your mind let it out
Yo, I been in the game since before you was born
I might still be emceein' even after you're gone
Strange thought, I know, but my skills still grow
The 80's, the 90's, 2000's and so
On and on until the crack of dawn
Until the year 3000 and beyond
Stay up all night and i'm emceein
Never die, cuz death is because of the sleep
'Cuz i'm back with a bang boogie, oogie oogie
Strawberry letter 23 like shoogy
Oh my god just look at me, grandpa been rappin' since '83
I'm supersonic like J.J. Fad
Got crazy ass shit pullin out the bag
Don't forget the tarter sauce, yo cuz it's settled
All these crab rappers, they're rappin' like crabs
I have carte blanche, the vagabond
Nas is the narcissistic, my pockets are ?????
I'm no killa, but compared to you i'm more realer
You aint a ?????, a mobster or a drug dealer
A drug dealer, you're not, mafioso, so no
You aint got the cutthroat in ya, beginner
I aint tryin' to hear your racket
You heard the police dog, you snitch, you rat, you wear that jacket
How many rappers must get dissed
Gimmie 8 bars so I can ?????????????
So let some women in, and I miss
The real hip hop which I persist, like
???????????????????????????????
????????????????????????????????
This is yours, this is one for the history books
Nasty Nas, what's the word, throw it off in the hook
One (one) two (two) three (three)
Too many rappers and there's still not enough emcees
It goes three (three) two (two) one (one)
MCA, Adrock, Mike D that's how we get it done like
Ladies and gents attention, Nas in the house
With Beastie Boys we can turn it out
Perpetrators we can point 'em out
So if you got somethin' on your mind let it out
Cuz this the type of lyric goes inside your brain
?????????? straight out the frame
My lyrics spin round like a hurricane twister
So get your hologram on off of Wolf Blitzer
Too many rappers to shake a stick at
I oughta charge a tax for every weak rap
I had to listen to, 'cuz we be makin' stacks
We stash records ???????????? we gotta pack
Never becoming wack
To all you crab rappers and hackers
And circus vendors ?????????????????
I take the cake, I stole them all
The golden microphone, well that's mine to hold
And why all these biters all up in my crotch?
They sniffin, muffin, huffin
And mean muggin' with a Blimpie Bluffin
Back up off me suckas, you aint sayin' nothin
I brought it on Broadway, I was the ??????????
Dual tape recorder blazin' auditoriums all day
I'm just getting started on this beat, this is foreplay
And when this song finished, I can sing along with this
By the way I have a strong fetish
For Christian laboutin steppers, I hear Russian blondes the wettest
But anyway I better pay homage to my fellas
And that's what's on my mind, on the rhyme who's next up?
Mike D. The man of mystery
History in the makin', and now we're takin'
Titles, awards, and accolades
Scare the competition as I sharpie my brain
Come together like peanut butter and sandwiches
Like pen and paper, like Picasso & canvases
Rockin' stadiums and shitty bars
Go back in time, send a fax from my car

Very nice track, didn't think Nas would sound this nice next to the Boys, but it works out well
I gotta take some points off for Ad Rock mentioning crab rappers in two separate verses though
can't wait til the video drops! I can't see this getting much radio airplay though, not poppy enough for mainstream hip hop radio and too hip hop for alternative stations.

Mic Check (Nas)
Stay up all night and I M.C
and Never die, cuz death is the cousin sleep
'Cuz i'm back with the bang boogie,
oogie oogie
Strawberry letter 23 like shuggie
Oh my god just look at me, grandpa been rappin' since '83
Oi'm supersonic like J.J. Fad
Got crazy ass shit pullin out the bag
Don't forget the tartar sauce, yo cuz it's sad
All these crab rappers, they're rappin' like crabs
I have carte blanche, the vagabond
Nas is a narcissist, my pockets are rotund
I'm no killa, but compared to you i'm more realer
You aint a ?????, a mobster or a drug dealer
A slug peeler, you're not, mafioso, no
You aint got the cutthroat in ya, beginner
I aint tryin' to hear your racket
You work with police dog, you snitch, you rat, you wear that jacket
How many rappers must get dissed
Gimmie 8 bars and watch me bless this
I start to reminisce, when I miss
The real hip hop with which I persist,
like Rum in mojitos
Bullets in banditos
Matzah balls and soup
Jackets and Troop
Yes Y'all, this is one for the history books
Nasty Nas, what's the word, count it off in the hook
One (one) two (two) three (three)
Too many rappers and there's still not enough emcees
It goes three (three) two (two) one (one)
MCA, Adrock, Mike D that's how we get it done like
Ladies and gents attention, Nas in the house
With Beastie Boys we can turn it out
Perpetrators we can point 'em out
So if you got somethin' on your mind let it out
Cuz this the type of lyric goes inside your brain
To blow you bullshit rappers straight out the frame
My lyrics spin round like a hurricane twister
So get your hologram on off of Wolf Blitzer
Too many rappers to shake a stick at
I oughta charge a tax for every weak rap
I had to listen to, 'cuz we be makin' stacks
Like Stax records
My squad we gotta pack
We never coming wack
To all you crab rappers and hackers
And circumventers
*souped on* splendour (*probably wrong)
I
take the cake, I stole the mould
The golden microphone, well that's mine to hold
And why all these biters all up in my crotch-space?
sniffin, muffin, huffin
And mean muggin' with a Blimpie Bluffin
Back up off me sucka, you aint sayin' nothin
I''m broader than Broadway, I was in project hallways
Dual tape recorder lacin' auditoriums all day
I'm just getting started on this beat, this is foreplay
And when this song finished, y'all can sing along with this
By the way I have a strong fetish
For Christian Louboutin steppers, I hear Russian blondes the wettest
But anyway I better pay homage to my fellas
And that's what's on my mind,
and the rhyme who's next up?
Mike D. The man of mystery
History in the makin', and now we're takin'
Titles, awards, and accolades
Scarin the competition as I sharpen my blades
We come together like peanut butter and sandwiches
Like pen and paper, like Picasso & canvases
Rockin' stadiums and shitty bars
Go back in time, send a fax from my car
One (one) two (two) three (three)
Too many rappers and there's still not enough emcees
It goes three (three) two (two) one (one)
MCA, Adrock, Mike D that's how we get it done like
Ladies and gents attention, Nas in the house
With Beastie Boys we can turn it out
Perpetrators we can point 'em out

i think i feel like i'll get sick of the "leaked" tracks long enough before the release that i'll be ready for them again in time. plus their context in the record will breathe a bit more life into them. these tracks are sounding nice.
in reference to the Mario inquiry; I personally feel Mario was damn near a fourth beastie for a decade. he was truly a secret weapon via his wonderful engineering sensibility, but just as much his gift of being able to help the beasties develop their songs into more layered, textured productions. i can honestly say that I truly have enjoyed all post Mario releases very much, but in the same vein I also recognize that their overall sound has lost an intensity and creamy fullness that was certainly fostered by Mario's contributions during the 90s. i'm talking sonically and musically.
that said, it's a supreme gas following the beasties "producer-less", like the cat's away and the mice are playing. following every whim they feel, musically humoring any idea they may have with a casual charm.
fuck, i'm ranting.
Kid Presentable
07-18-2009, 03:23 AM
Only thing really missing aside from Mario's studio knowledge is the fact he was always around to press record in the middle of something.
This song is really the first thing in a long time up there with anything he engineered. Those drums sound fucking superb. That it's looped live music immediately puts it up against the Mario era shit and this beat more than hangs. For me.

I didn't even think of Mario C until someone mentioned him. I'm also interested in what he'd bring to this track, as production-wise I think it hits the nail on the head quite viciously.
I hate it when people mention Adrock saying 'crab rappers' in two seperate versus, or Mike rhyming 'commericial twice' in Pass The Mic, as slip-ups or them not knowing what they are doing, like with the TT5B production being fairly simple and sparse. It's fucking deliberate, and as much as they think, fans really don't know better.
Anyway, great track, like the other two. I don't think I'll get bored of it, it'll just become less fresh, which is pretty natural. I still enjoy Sure Shot immensely, for example, and that's had about 500 plays in my life!
I love MCA's 'too many rappers to shake a stick at...', it's like the King's grandpa reference but a little more subtle ha. That little break between his and Adrocks last verse too, Nas' 'who's next?' and to be honest, just the sheer length of it all. Am still digesting, but I can't help thinking what a fucking tune. Missed oppourtunity... How. The. Fuck?

I made my wife listen to it on the headphones. She doesn't like the Beastie Boys. She doesn't hate them, but she's not much of a fan of any music. We listen to Kanye and Jay-Z a lot when we drive around the vineyard region. She is unlike us who like the band but criticise every little detail we don't like.
She said "It sounds exactly like they always do, but completely fresh and different at the same time. Old, but new". hmmmmm

Yeah my lady is pushing for the covers album. She doesn't mind Benny and the Jets.
I saw this somewhere:
The Beastie Boys will release a 12” (featuring Nas) exclusive to indie record stores. This limited pressing of 5,000 was recorded live at Bonnaroo 2009, when Nas joined the Beasties on stage to perform a new track titled “Too Many Rappers” from the forthcoming album “Hot Sauce Committee,” due in stores this fall. This limited edition 12” record is a return to old school values with the Beastie Boys releasing their new music in a vinyl format before it goes out on a CD and digitally.
Umm.. so like.. WHAT? LIVE version?
The exclusive 12" goes on sale today, Saturday, July 18th.

You and cjhood seem to be the only people willing to halfway admit to themselves that these vocals are actually pretty disappointing.
Anybody that's been paying attention would agree that there was a HUGE drop in the quality of not only their rhyming, but also in their individual delivery, between HN and TT5B. Not to mention that their rapping on HN was already inferior to what they were doing in the 80s. But now the shit is just plain terrible.
In some ways, their vocals on this song actually sound a lot better on the live version. But seriously, why are they hardly even rhyming on beat? What is up Adrock and this baby talk? Can anybody honestly say that the way that they're rapping on this song in any way compares to how they sounded 20 years ago on songs like 3 Minute Rule? It's like night and day.
These guys are one of the most important groups in the world to me - and I'll continue to buy all their releases - but I can admit to myself that they're starting to embarrass me a little with these mediocre lazy rhymes.

I know it's a minor thing, and he could have been good enough to do it on both verses, but I like MCA's syncopated flow on the second verse. It's kind of like how he rode around the beat on Check it Out. It's no 3 Minute Rule, but he's still kind of trying.

I guess people think they used to rhyme like eminem or something but im not seeing some sort of drop off here.

I like Adrock's off-beat 'you ain't saying nothing', that reminds me of MCA's last verse in Ch-Check It Out.
The rhymes are decent, I pesonally thought TT5B was lyrically gold in places, so there's no point in me responding to Mike's post. Me and my friends still quote that shit all the time.

I am a fan of honesty so I like your thread. I just didn't understand the one line where you said "Not to mention that their rapping on HN was already inferior to what they were doing in the 80s. But now the shit is just plain terrible."
I think HN is their almost perfect album (mostly for the beats) but their lyrics weren't too much unalike the stuff on the two previous albums. I hope to GOD that the new album sounds more like HN than any other one of their albums.
"Too Many Rappers" is growing on me.. The studio version sounds a little better than the BBC version floating around.... and NAS is 10000X time a better rapper than Q-Tip was on "Get it Together" so I am glad they actually got a respected rapper on the track.
The other 2 new songs..
"Lee Majors Come Again" I like a lot. In fact, I love it. The chorus is sick as f**k.. the verses are mediocre but the flow is great. The "whistle" part in the second verse is great as is the breakdown in the middle.
"B-Boys in the Cut"? I'm too big on it. I don't really like the basic beat but I do like it when it switches up on MCA's second verse.. and I like when it switches up neat the "Larry/Harry/Gary/Barry" part..

You guys are all delusional. All the HSC songs that have come out so far sound uninspired to me. Let's face it the Beasties could put out a K-Fed cover album and everyone here would love it.
do you want to join the discussion or be an ass? there's plenty of critical commentary in this thread...
Yes the new album will be instrumental...instrumental in securing their legacy as the greatest hip-hop band of all time! The people who are assuming that instrumental means no vocals are wrong. That is "The Mix Up".
how's that working out for you?

I am still not convinced that TMR is the main single from the album...the first yes - and I do like it but I dont think its commercial enough for most of the radio stations and casual pop music listeners.
Plus the fact that it is essentially a limited release and out nearly 3 months before the album actually drops, I also find it strange that most of the promotion seems to be this side of the Atlantic rather than in the States.
I think there will be another single released after the HN re-release which will be "the big one"...

I don't think it's a "slip-up" mentioning crab rappers twice, I just think its kinda corny and uncreative. In either of the two verses Ad Rock could have said something else besides "crab rappers" to refer to to a wack rapper, especially since "crab rapper" is a phrase that refers to the "biting" of others rhymes and Ad Rock doesn't expand on this idea.
However I am being picky and I really love the song, and enjoy Ad Rock's verses and his references to Strawberry 23

and you have just found your answer.
be happy they are still doing it bruh.
remember.....mid 40s.
Did you happen to hear the last LL Cool J album (Exit 13)? It's by no means a perfect LP, but he definitely stepped it up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unqPskKaPZs&feature=related) lyrically. I believe he's in his mid 40s and actually came up in the same era with these guys.
I am a fan of honesty so I like your thread. I just didn't understand the one line where you said "Not to mention that their rapping on HN was already inferior to what they were doing in the 80s. But now the shit is just plain terrible."
If you actually compare the lyrics on CYH, IC and HN to what they were doing on PB and on parts of LTI, there's no real comparison. But they make up for any lyrical shortcomings on CYH and IC with how their vocals are recorded. And it was very effective. They were also just experimenting a lot more on those two albums in general. But when they lost the distortion, eased back on the rock elements and went back to regular old rapping on HN, you could detect some of the weaknesses a little more. Not that anyone was actually expecting them to hang with the shit that was out at that time; I mean, it was 1998 (the last great year in rap) and people like Big Pun and Big L were still alive.
To their credit, you could tell they were actually trying on HN, especially since they went back to interweaving their rhymes together and were actually playing around with different rhyme patterns. And yeah, it's still the closest thing to another PB. It was an excellent album. But HN was also more or less like the precursor to the full blown cheeseballness that eventually took over on TT5B. By that stage, too many of the rhymes were just corny, their flows were choppy and poorly delivered, and any real edge to their actual vocals was pretty much gone.
Kid P, you're right, I don't have a list prepared, but I don't think it'd be difficult to think of 50 of their beats that I like better. TMR sounds like an extension of TT5B, which had very few analog elements, since they didn't really sample much on it (and seemed to be using the sounds straight from the Reason software bundle without manipulating anything). It just sounds a little too clean for me.

And personally, I think they could benefit from working with Mario C again. I know he liked to keep it clean, but he didn't keep it tooooo clean.

i love the bboys and anything they put out, believe me
but ive said it since TT5B, they could really use a producer.
i think in most cases, artists benefit from an outside ear. in the case of mario c, i think he was exceptionally good at reigning them in and shaping their sounds. if you watch even the beastiography, when they talk about making HN, you can tell that he was like the coach. and if you really listen to the albums he produced, you can see a marked difference in the complexity of the songs. i havent heard any of this since he was gone. maybe it was him, or maybe its just the need for an outside ear. this is not to say that yauch is a terrible producer, i havent really listened to stuff he's produced for other people.. he may be good being someone else's outside ear as a producer.
in a small way, its kind of akin to the lennon/mccartney (i might even throw george martin in there) thing. they balanced eachother out. and i dont think lennon minced words with mccartney. when these guys went their separate ways, their music was still alright, but not nearly as good as when they worked together.
i dont understand why people take such offense to this point of view.

I guess by "work" you mean collaborate on an actual song together, but technically Large Professor might count, since he got some input from Serch while producing for Illmatic, and he also remixed Sure Shot. Serch also brought Nas and Q-Tip together for the same album, which was also the same year he featured on Get It Together. By the same token, you could also say (stupider fact) Nas is the only MC to work with Q-Tip, Large Pro, 3rd Bass (Serch) and the Beasties.

Like rum in mojitos, bullets in banditos
Matzo balls in soup, jackets are Troop
Little help here.
Like many, I do think their rhymes were better in the LTI & P'sB days. Perhaps they just rap better on drugs ;)

Made a few tiny changes after playing the acapella back a few times. One thing still isn't right, in bold. Sounds like "I was the project hallway" but that doesn't make sense. I'm thinking "I was the project _____" and the blank is a reference to some Broadway star. Unfortunately my theatre knowledge aint up to snuff. Can anyone take a shot at it?
Mic Check (Nas)
Stay up all night and I M.C
and Never die, cuz death is the cousin of sleep
Because i'm back with the bang boogie, oogie oogie
Strawberry Letter 23 like Shuggie
Oh my god just look at me, grandpa been rappin' since '83
Oi'm supersonic like J.J. Fad
Got crazy ass shit pullin out the bag
Don't forget the tartar sauce, yo cuz it's sad
All these crab rappers, they're rappin' like crabs
I have carte blanche, the vagabond
Nas is the narcissist, my pockets are rotund
I'm no killa, but compared to you i'm more realer
You aint a shotta, mobster or a drug dealer
I had to listen to 'cuz we be makin' stacks
Like Stax records
My squad we gotta pack
We never coming wack
To all you crab rappers and hackers
And circumventers
Tweaked on splendor, I
Take the cake, I stole the mould
The golden microphone, well that's mine to hold
And why all these biters all up in my crotch-space?
Sniffin, muffin, huffin
And mean muggin' with a Blimpie Bluffin
Back up off me sucka, you aint sayin' nothin
I'm broader than Broadway, I was in project hallways
Dual tape recorder lacin' auditoriums all day
I'm just getting started on this beat, this is foreplay
And when this song finished, y'all can sing along with this
By the way I have a strong fetish
For Christian Louboutin steppers, I hear Russian blondes the wettest
But anyway ya better pay homage to my fellas
And that's what's on my mind,
End of rhyme, who's next up?
Mike D. The man of mystery
History in the makin', and now we're takin'
Titles, awards, and accolades
Scare the competition as I sharpen my blades
We come together like peanut butter and sandwiches
Like pen and paper, like Picasso & canvases
Rockin' stadiums to shitty bars
Go back in time, send a fax from my car
One (one) two (two) three (three)
Too many rappers and there's still not enough emcees
It goes three (three) two (two) one (one)
MCA, Adrock, Mike D that's how we get it done like

Nas lyrics do sound a little phoned in...
Both the Adams lyrics I find a little weak...
Mikes verses are Beastie Gold, inventive and funny they could have come from the PB era.

This is the stronger of the two ad-rock verses, but I agree w/ the people saying he shouldn't have used Crab Rappers twice unless he was willing to stick to that theme, and explore the concept more.
I love the:
Because i'm back with the bang boogie, oogie oogie
Strawberry Letter 23 like Shuggie
intro to his first verse.
Also, I just listened to the vinyl version, the outro is a lot cooler on the Zane Lowe version.
