I got off of work and got on the train with my wife and it was packed for some reason and it usually isn't at that time of the evening. As a matter of fact, I always get on the first car and it's always completely empty so there must have been some kind of event and everyone on the train was black except for my wife and I.

So, my wife finds a spot and there's some space between her and some guy and she points at it and I figure, what the hell, I've been standing on my feet all day and I sat down.

Once I did, the guy next to me starts saying crap like, "Cracka ass cracka, country ass, I don't see how his country ass fit in this little spot next to me."

He wasn't saying it directly to me either but kinda like to his friends on the train.

His stop comes and he gets off and some lady gets on and she sits right where he was sitting and she was actually bigger than him and she seemed comfortable.

Well, next thing I know, the people sitting across from me are saying the same crap, "Cracka ass country ass, look at him sitting there, legs open, other people need to ride the train too."

I don't get it, I'm minding my own business and not bothering anyone and using the seat that I payed for.

those things happen from time to time. you just happened to come across some people who have nothing better to do than showcase their negativity. sounds like you handled it very well. fuck them.

some of the craziest shit ever happens on the nyc subways.

i had some crazy scruffy fucker try and take a swing at me. he dropped his metro card and it fell by my feet, so i went to pick it up to give it back.

dude flipped the fuck out. i extended my hand out to him, offering his card, but he was already in another dimension. the train was mostly empty, maybe 5-10 people in the car. he started bugging the fuck out saying that i was gonna die. and all this psychobabble. i was standing up, so he got up and started to come in my direction - he was only a couple feet away to begin with - so i tossed his metro card behind him on the seat so he'd get it. he looked back, looked at me with crazy eyes. he took a wild swing so i kinda leaned back and he missed. then he went OFF about how i'd be dead in a week and something like his dead brothers spirit was gonna murder me, screaming like a maniac.

at that moment he turned around and walked RIGHT INTO a pole. HARD. it was my stop, i didnt stick around to watch the aftermath

Yeah, I've heard the NYC trains are wild. The busses get kinda wild around here but I haven't ridden in awhile and I don't have any stories. I guess I really didn't need to post in this thread.

oh yeah, racism too. i had this black lady FLIP the fuck out about how "donchu touch MYYYYYYYYYYY chidgrens!" when the train braked suddenly and i brushed her with my bag.

i've seen that kind of thing happen to other people millions of times.

i think that there are a lot of frustrated people out there just looking for someone to exercise any kind of authority possible on.

I don't really attract racism, I think it's my hair and my body type. I seem vaguely ethnic, even though I'm pale as the day is long. when I was in college and student teaching at an inner city middle school with a 99% african american student body, my partnering student teacher was made fun of constantly by the kids. I asked them why they didn't make fun of me and they were like, "well, you're white, but you're not white." ha.

I think it could of also been the fact that I was in uniform as well. I have no patches or badges but it's navy blue so they probably figure I was a cop or something.

Who knows. I haven't heard 'cracka' in like 10 years.

you would be how suprised that once a small amount of pressure is applied, people become overtly racist. When dealing with clients, often I hear "they should learn how to speak english" or "filthy mexican" or some other nonsense, but then I hand them my paperwork and , boom im a spic and they feel like assholes. it is the funniest shit ever....

"well, you're white, but you're not white." ha.

What do you think they meant? I've seen your pictures, I don't get it. I would have thought you were white, white. Maybe it was your behavior more than your looks?

maybe they're just beige.

Ahh racism the most primitive concept. Seriously motherfuckers should start getting use to the 21st century.

I don't know, I think it was the combination of looks and behavior. the other girl came from a very wealthy background, and although she was trying very hard to be nice, she was a bit unnatural and almost fearful seeming. I personally wasn't "acting black" or anything, I was just being regular and I think the kids felt more comfortable around me because I was comfortable around them. I heard some derogatory whispering aimed towards me, but I always addressed it and joked around with them about it until it wasn't a problem anymore.

they had some bitchy ass burned out uppity white ladies teaching them in that school...I didn't blame them for being assholes toward white people. I mean, one of my favorite students was this girl who had a really bad attitude, but was really quick-witted and hilarious. she missed a couple days of school and came back limping with her knee all bandaged up. she was being a raging bitch all day, and I asked her what happened. she told me her sister was fucked up on drugs and they got into a fight and her sister stabbed her in the knee and she had to go to the hospital for it. then, this kid in front of her was teasing her and kept bumping her leg with his chair until she was super pissed and screamed "GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM ME, YOU FAT FUCK!" and instead of being all, "what's going on here?", the teacher just sent her to the principal's office with the suggestion that she be suspended. and I stuck up for her, and refused to sign off on the paperwork as a witness. oh man, that lady fucking hated my guts after that.

and back to being white...I don't know, I live in a hispanic neighborhood, and I have never been harassed, but my roommate has. not so much where we live now (our street is populated by all different races), but she used to be called a "white bitch" on the regular. she is definitely white white.

hmm, and...oh, my last boyfriend was brown and he used to point out things about me that weren't white. he would be like, "your fingernails! you don't have white people fingernails." and then I'd call him a racist. I dunno, maybe there are a bunch of markers for whiteness that we don't even know about.
