View Full Version : When shall HSC Pt. 1 be released?

I wish Yauch a speedy recovery from cancer, but I hope he doesn't rush through his treatment and recovery to get back on the road, doing promo, ect...he seems pretty eager about it.

I'd like to see him return at full health. Therefore, I was thinking they should push the album back to Spring/Summer 2010....play some festivals, do some tours, etc. Maybe combine HSC 1/2 into a double LP. I can wait.

Thoughts?

I think if the albums done it should be released. Regardless of promotion or whatever that Capitol probably wants them to do.

What I want to know is if the Hello Nasty re-issue has been pushed back also.

I think the album release date is irrelevant right now.

Yes, it is irrevelant..that is true, sorry for offending you. This was not a thread about "hurry up and release the record" because that would be too damn insensitive. I'm just saying, I just think Yauch should take a year or two to recover and not do anything until then.

Pip07...I disagree, I think the album should not be released at all, that would be a slap in the face to Yauch, wait until he completely recovers.

I'd like to see the Hello Nasty re-issue pushed back as well, why celebrate in a dire time like this? This stuff can wait. Time for another hiatus.

I was actually surprised they didn't go cancel the release of Too Many Rappers, well yeah the vinyl units had already been shipped...but Amazon and Itunes could have at least delayed the mp3s out of respect for Yauch.

I'll admit that I did purchase it but felt guilty about it and kind of somber hearing his verses on the track.

I kind of thought of it like this, if I had made something and then got sick I would want to get it out to the people. but thats me

I agree with pushing back everything back as well, to a date TBD out of respect for Yauch.

Hopefully it isn't up to Capitol/EMI either on when the record is released and that Yauch can have final say.

If for some reason Yauch and the boys wanted HSC and the Hello Nasty Re-Issue to be released sometime soon so be it, it's up to them, but I really hope that Yauch takes as much time as he needs to take care of himself first and then worry about his contractual obligations and then us. We joke about another hiatus but this is a serious situation, not a joke.

I agree with last post, when I listen to Too Many Rappers or any Beastie song for that matter, I do feel kind of somber.

Hopefully, this is just a bump in the road.

Be well Yauch.

(y) I wasn't joking about a hiatus though, don't get me wrong there. I think they should take a Fugazi style indefinite hiatus for him to recover properly.

Yauch's been going non-stop since building a studio, producing some records, directing, editing films, traveling, touring, etc since 2002 or 2003. He could use a nice long well deserved break IMHO.

"I'll Never Die because death is the cousin of sleep" - anyone else get chills hearing Yauch spit that verse after hearing the news...i know it's from an old Nas song, but after the announcement I just went wow at that line.

Bands make their money off of tours more so then off of album sales. A tour around a release of a album will spark sales more so then a album that has been around for awhile. With Adam in charge of a lot of the PR and video making, ect. it just makes sense to push things back.
I wouldnt expect there to a be a issue with the HN release, unless they had not done the audio com. yet. Im sure they have since they did the IC during the NBA finales.

Pushing the album back is of f course is a good idea ! And of course its more important for MCA to get better but to those people that get really defensive when people ask any little quesiton about the album, that shits rediculous.

Personally, i'm not feelin the previous suggestion of waiting to release HSC pt1until pt2 is complete. Statisticly- double albums don't that well, it's almost like giving people too much food to digest all at once. I'd rather have 2 seperate solid & focused albums like CYH & IC.

As far as the release date- i don't think its really a question anyone can answer right now. All depends on MCA's recovery time. They'll obviously wanna have a record release date where he'd be able to perform 100%.

Seriously though, i don't think the question of a release date is disrespectful at all. In fact, Yauch himself said the cancer is "a pain in the a**" so i'm sure he'd rather be releasing the record & be out there touring.
Along that same note, one of my favorite non-Beastie records, the self titled Sublime, was almost not released at all b/c of Brad's death. Just think of what incredible music we would have missed out on had it not been released.
I'm glad the BBoys went ahead & released the single awhile. It'll just make fans more eager for the new record & will give us time to reflect & appreciate the genius of Mr. Yauch while he recovers.

I think none of us know the extent of it, and you might be being a bit of an alarmist reading this and other posts of yours on the issue. I still think we could see the album this year. I really just want to see dude healthy, and I'd take that over any more albums. They've done enough for me now, and this episode has made me realise it.

My guess is it will be released when Mr. Yauch is well enough to tour. I know they are not some commercial group thats is aiming to be number one on the billboard charts, but i'd imagine they want to promote thier album to the fullest extent.

And i don't blame them, this is not just thier art, it is how they make thier living.

Not being alarmist...I want him to be fully healthy like the rest of us do, I'd be content if The Mix-Up were the last record ever made. They've done plenty enough for me as well. I'm having a hard time listening to them now and not thinking about his health.

u guys may be missing something ...

i think the reason why they delay the new album launch is because they want to be healthy enough to tour/ promote it and it's release ...

i would love for them to release it dont get me wrong

but they want to promote it before the release it

I think everyone knows, respects and wishes Yauch's health above everything else Beastie-related. Having said that I see no reason why the HN re-release would be put back, but am not bothered if it is. It obviously makes a lot more sense with the new record, promotions and shows.

Again, get well soon Adam.

Kind of reminds me when the trade centers came down. A lot of people were all about what we could and couldn't say. Radio stations blacklisted songs and there was a lot of talk about taking the twin towers out of movies so people wouldn't be reminded of the tragic event...

Do really think the Beasties are about that?

I think them taking the towers out of movies was stupid.. taking burning towers off the cover of The Coup & Dream Theatre CDs was more of something that had to be done..

The Beasties at this point in their career aint about offending anybody.. I don't really understand what you were getting at there though..

point is, the backlash for wondering when the album will come out has gotten a little out of control across the board. The Beasties still want us to talk about the new album. These guys are not about crushing our curiosity or laying down rules about when we can talk about the new album.
