Now he just needs a team, and some have already said they wouldn't sign them because they have FUCKING COMMON SENSE.
What the fuck is the NFL thinking? Oh wait, I forgot the Dallas Cowboys have been padding their roster with convicts for years.

That's what I was thinking. Everybody is like "oh he served his time, he's a changed man...boo hoo for him, we want to give him a second chance".
HE WENT TO PRISON FOR DOG FIGHTING.

Believe it or not, NFL quality quarterbacks are few and far between. Its tough to find a good one.
He served his time right? Paid the price?

yeah, im just surprised that they'd consider taking the leader of a team back after something like this. imagine whatever team took him made it to the superbowl or something like that. pr nightmare? pr godsend? i dunno, its weird

Some teams' QB will go down in the first few weeks
and when the backup comes in and stiks the joint up, the fans will be screaming for that team to sign Vick.

What he did was disgusting. He was convicted. He served the sentence handed down to him. He deserves a chance to earn a wage and make a living just like anyone else. I'm sure some will say he doesn't deserve to make millions but he's a professional athlete. They "all" make millions.
Should he not be allowed to work and be "productive" now that he's out? Or should it just be a job that doesn't pay as much? How much is too much $$$?
It is what it is.

It goes beyond that he served his time, etc... When this went down and he was exposed, it was said over and over that the NFL would not let him back in. Period. How quick we forget...now all of a sudden, it's about how it's only a matter of time when he's back. I call BS.

i dont like what he did. but.....
does that mean a rapist who serves his time should no longer be able to get a job?
a person who commits murder or manslaughter?
child molestation?
because im pretty sure tons of people have been convicted sentenced and then released from prison for such offenses are in our working population as i type this.
get over it.
I agree with Rob. Some team with high expectations will either lose their starting QB or shit the bed the first few weeks and sign him. Again, what he did was beyond horrible, but he served his time. I just don't get why one of the first things you do when you're a free man is meet up with Allen Iverson at a strip club in Virginia. What a fucking idiot. You have countless people to show that you've matured and whatnot (including your former boss that you deliberately lied to face to face) and you do that?? "Hey, I filed for bankruptcy, but let's go fuck up the titty bar!" I was all for him getting a second chance, but I think I successfully changed my own mind while typing this post. You're big news. You'd have to expect that you're gonna be under the microscope for some time. Who does that?? Go fuck yourself, Ron Mexico.

I think Vick is a piece of shit too, but I don't hold his going to a strip club against him.
Strip Clubs aren't illegal, even for a guy on probation.
Dude's been in jail for a year, it's understandable.

I don't think it was the NFL that said that. Arthur Blank(Falcons owner) might have said it because Vick let him down on a more personal level. Vick should get another chance as with anybody else that "did their time". There will be some team that will be willing to take Vick but I will bet that the team, and or the NFL, that does will have a nice clause in the contract that will require Vick to be outspoken in some way about animal rights/abuse.
You don't do that shit. I don't have a problem with strip clubs, either, but for a man trying to regain his life/financial stability and you've yet to meet up with your former employer to whom you have to try to convince that you're a changed man and of moral standard? Dumb move.

Yeah, so he did a horrible thing and went to jail for it. He has perhaps one of the most marketable skills in the sports workplace and so he will DEFINITELY get another chance to ply his trade. Look I'm not saying he isn't a total douche but jesus, thats not close to illegal! I've worked with so many terrible people in my life. whatever. Ultimately everyone deserves a second chance.

Ok, Riddle me this then, PShabi...
A 5th grade teacher is convicted of child molestation, serves his time, and is released on probation.
Does he deserve a chance to teach again?
I use this analogy because I know you're a teacher.
How about the Wall St. CEO who gets convicted of Insider Trading, or Investor Fraud.
Does he deserve another chance to trade once he's released from prison?
The point I'm trying to make is that I agree with you that he deserves to earn a living again, but he has that right already.
He's free to do whatever he wants in life, I just don't think he deserves the right to be a part of a Billion dollar Corporation (the NFL) where he will be influencing millions of kids.
It's just a horrible message to send...see, look at Vick...I can do anything and get away with it.
Just because someone "pays their debt" doesn't mean they automatically deserve a second chance at their prefferred profession.
I agree, but have some fuckin brains. I thought he was supposed to be working as a construction worker? Apparently the only pipe he's been laying is at the club with AI.

I see where you're coming from, but I don't think your analogies fit. Vick is a piece of shit, but...
The teacher committed a crime against the people he/she is supposed to serve/protect.
The investor committed a crime involving his profession as well.
If Vick had been point shaving and throwing games he would be banned for life from the NFL because THAT crime impacted the game. Same as a firefighter who commits arson. See where I'm coming from? The guy shouldn't be able to work at the Humane Society. The problem a lot of folks have is that he is going to sign a deal and make more money this season than they will ever make. And he's a scumbag.
I agree it's a horrible example for kids if he's back in the league. I don't want him on the Bears and I'd be vocal about it if they signed him (just an example). I hold myself to a reasonably high moral standard. I answer to myself. If I was an owner, I'd never sign him, no matter what. I'm not going to be the least bit surprised when someone does sign him though. It's a business and if they think it can help their bottom line I guess they'll do it. I'm torn.

Great point.
But he was running an illegal gambling operation as well, betting on the dog fights.
That correlates directly to his profession.
In the eyes of Goodell, that should be enough for a lifetime ban.

totally diff scenario.
mike vick is not working with dogs. its not like hes going to be a veterinarian.
hes playing football.
a teacher/child molster deals with kids all the time. that is innapropriate.
why should vicks abbility to play football coincide with him killing dogs?
what would you recommend him do for the rest of his life? beg on a corner?

I don't think he'll be neither. That's just a knee jerk reaction because of past actions from both teams. Buffalo, Jacksonville, Miami, Washington and San Francisco are teams that he has a better possibility he'll end up with.

Vick deserved a second chance in my mind right up until I read about the strip club thing...that was just stupid. Whether he does or doesn't deserve a second chance, if the NFL says he can play, someone will pick him up. Piece of shit or not, the man can play and will probably play this year.

Because it set a terrible example for both NFL players and the children that look up to them.
Do you really think being a professional athlete in a sport where there is such a huge fan base (many of which are children) is just like having a "regular" job?
C'mon now. I know you're smarter than that.

this is america god damn it and im not going to have it turn into some pinko commie land where a man cant fry some dogs pay for his crime and then not be able to get a job that he is capable of doing because of said actions just because he "might be a bad role model".

Make him get a regular job and learn his fucking lesson.
You're a damn fool prez. Just because other teams have criminals on their teams don't make THAT right either.
Him making millions playing in the NFL DIRECTLY caused him to use those millions to fun dogfights. Letting him go back to that lifestyle is basically saying what he did was alright anytime any body buys a ticket or watches a game he's in from now on.

no you dont get the point.
just because your butt hurt about some dogs being killed (im not saying its not terrible, but lots of more heinous stuff goes on in this world) is blinding you from some pretty obvious facts.
he was raised around dog fighting. this is something he would have been doing had he never been in the nfl and never made his millions. in which case you would have never heard of him and really not cared what some african american male was doing in the inner city.
ray lewis probably killed someone, jamal lewis brokered coke deals, tank williams had an arsenal of illegal weapons, pacman jones caused a man to be shot and paralyzed, plaxico burress was carrying a loaded weapon in nyc without a permit (hes not going to play in the nfl for a bit but he will again), people are saying marvin harrison shot them and he will be playing again, and there are tons of examples more than that. and you are complaining about mike vick not being able to play in the nfl after he has served 2 years in jail (longer then anyone listed above mind you) and also lost millions and millions of dollars?

i think michael vick should be shining helmets
pacman jones should get a pass for everything short of detonating a nuclear weapon because the poor boy's parents were most likely insane or wayyyyy more into atari than the crying baby in the corner
plaxico burress should be forgiven, cause i think he's kind of dumb, he seems nice, he only hurt himself and will probably never own a gun again. plus he can catch like a mo'fucker. and that first name of his (sounds like the name of a drug or a pharmaceutical company) should probably get him butt loads of pharmaceuticals to keep him a nice passive catching machine. he could do some nice viagra commercials, become a sex addict, be all peace and love and forget what guns are
and im glad oj got his ass kicked in jail. murderer. that shit should be a reality show and the proceeds should go towards a steroids trust fund for his cell mates present and future

Here's the problem. The precedent has already been set for athletes to make major mistakes, break the law, and still come back to their respective leagues despite serving jail time. It makes it more difficult to justify turning away Vick at this point. The argument that is being made by people who believe he should be back is "if Craig MacTavish/Dany Heatley/Grant Fuhr/Will Cordero/Pacman Jones/WHOEVER got to come back, why can't Vick be forgiven?" Personally, I think that they should start with lifetime bans for committing felonies or major crimes. These guys shouldn't be role models for kids, even if they have undeniable talents. They're shitbags who broke the law.
