I have a leetle flabby bit around my midsection like 80% of most guys. Shit frustrates me though as I put my jeans on. I'm working out every day and it still hangs on. I'm sure it's normal and I have the whole nerdy-guy thing working in my favor but I would love to be all cut like a 1970's Iggy Pop. But Iggy did heroin, and that's not my style. I'm lost.

Any advice?

First of all, you have to realize you aren't going to loose it. You need to accept it and treat it like a lover. Welcome to getting old.

Unless you want to drink your meals through a straw and spend 4 hours a day in your running shoes and 2 hours snorting coke of your toilet lid.

terrific. that's what I was afraid of. My girl's in great aerobicised shape but I look like a shlup in comparison. Well, that's a lie - I'm pretty handsome. But the gut drives be bizonkers.

Well, I'm serious about the running shoes and meals through a straw. I believe thats the first place fat goes on guys.

Beat your parents the next time you see them. Their genes are responsible as well.

What exactly are you doing for exercise?

^ waiting for that too. ya gut is the hardest thing to work on, let's be honest.

diet and ab training is crucial here. crunches, crunches and more crunches will help tone it up and build the muscle underneath but you have to eat smart. like... no bullshit bread or pasta (carbs), no booze, no soft drinks and lots of water.

my ab training usually is 50/50 with cardio. use weights when doing your abs too. strengthens them more and will build them more, which will of course make them bulge out more.

I disagree, crunches will only get you so far. I don't do many at all. You burn fuck all energy doing them, 2 of my personal trainers both told me that they are largely a waste of time if you are doing a ton of them. If you want to strengthen your core hovers are great.

Doing rpm class (an exercise bike cardio class done to music) has worked really well. Typically burn 600-800 calories per class. Using acetyl L carnitine has helped me drop more weight and have more energy when I'm at the gym.

But eat right! And cardio every day!!

Well I've had mine since 16 - the same age I started drinking. Stop drinking? ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...

I was told by my old Tae Kwon Do master that doing situps on a flabby belly will just build muscle under the fat making it bulge out even more. But this was a passing comment as some1 mentioned it and he set them straight.

But yeah, stop drinking and make sure everything you eat is brown - ie, totally not worth it.

he'd probably know it as spin class. i like doing crunches and it works for me. i just don't focus on it too much because i know, come weekend, i will have some beers and maccas and filth. if i run out of stuff to work on, i'll do my abs and my regime seems to work well....if only i focused more on it.

probably should have lowered the focus on crunches; there's a lot more ab work you can do besides them.

What he said is right. You can't target fat loss to a specific part of your body. Ie doing tons of sit ups won't burn fat from your gut just because that's the part of your body you are targeting.

Using a bike is good because you are working the largest muscles in your body (your quads) which require the most amount of energy to use so you burn more fat quicker.

I should also add your ab muscles are some of the only muscles in your body which are unable to ever increase in size, only strength.

Not sure why, just going on what a few trainers have told me.

I was told by my old Tae Kwon Do master that doing situps on a flabby belly will just build muscle under the fat making it bulge out even more.

I think this is my problem. I don't do a ton of cardio, I basically do about 40 push ups in the morning every day, about 50 sit ups on a bench at night, and train with weights on my arms, chest, shoulders and traps every other day. I usually only spend about 10-15 minutes jogging on the treadmill every other day. I think I need to pump that up.

I feel strength and form underneath my ponch that wasn't there before. And it seems that the bulges from my ab muscles are actually pushing the leetle out of shape nerd belly I had out.\\

I don't want to give the wrong impression, I don't have a beer gut here people. I've seen guys that do and it's not me.

I eat fairly normal too. I should probably cut back on my breads but I usually drink vodka when I drink and hardly ever drink beer, rum, or brown alchohol (whiskey etc). Also I never drink soda and never eat candy.

but yeah thanks for the advice all - I think I'm gonna find meself a stationary bike.

I thought Ponch was that dude from CHiPS? Either way, I don't have the dude from CHiPS on my stomach nor a load of flab.

Paunch. Ah, the paunch. Advertising has us striving to look like models. The unrealistic expectations heaped upon women are now heaped upon men, also.

I like to flip the script in the interest of positivity and champion my podge. I say to my wife "I may only have a small penis, but I have over 100 kilos to push it in with!"

I lost some weight drinking slimfast type stuff and just eating less for lunch and breakfast.

I actually kinda like that chocolate stuff now.

This:
http://www.ehow.com/video_4944145_yoga-ball-exchange-tips.html

except that guy sucks and you should lower your legs to the floor (with legs straight) each time (with out without the ball between your feets)
this will destroy your lower abs.

and this:
http://www.pacengo.co.uk/images/exerciseVariations/medicineBall.jpg

its just a picture but each crunch you do raise the ball leave it balanced on your shins then lay back down and then crunch back up and pick the ball up and then lower yourself again while holding the ball and reach it behind your back and then begin the rep again.

I also find holding either the yoga or medicine ball squeezed between your legs/thighs and then doing reverse crunches is a good one too.

now i know this is true, but one question i've always had is, can you target fat gain to a specific part of your body? like how you get a gut, but the fat doesn't seem to accumulate as fast anywhere else?

and if so, how are you supposed to lose the gut if exercising will just make you lose fat all over your body equally? you're losing fat all over, but it's just piling on and on in the gut, i don't see how you could keep up

give up skra it's hopeless

I have the type of body that gets super fit everywhere except my abs. My body is an asshole.

There is a saying that goes "abs are made in the kitchen" and it really is the truth for folks like us. Especially the less carbs/no booze/etc rules.

Upping your cardio a bit, then combining crunches, regular ol sit-ups, and some weight training for the abs is what I was told by pros are the best bet. Combined with that kitchen quote.

I've come to accept that mine will never look super flat OMFG amazing... but I'll balance a bit and just look smoothed out at least.
