I just found out that an old friend of mine's father died

I am extremely worried about him because he is a fairly recently recovering alcoholic and drug addict. Been sober, I think, a year and some change.

I sent him a text to offer condolences and he wrote me back so I think he's maintaining. At least for now.

I feel helpless. There isn't anything I can do.
