So I'm on the market for 2 new TVs. My fiancee and I just bought a house and we're on the market for new shit. We currently have her 1st generation flatscreen Sony monstrosity that she bought off Craigslist. I refuse to move it again, so I'm hoping to sell it to my current neighbor.

Anyway, I heard many good things about DLP/projection TVs from a dependability standpoint, so I'm thinking about getting one for the gameroom. The bigger, the better. For the living room, I'm thinking about mounting an LCD flat panel above the fireplace. I'm thinking something in the 47" - 40" range. Not too large, not too small. I know LED TVs are the new shit, but I heard they're like a combo of plasma and LCD and I've always been told to avoid plasma like they're the plague.

So, what do you think of my thoughts? Have any suggestions for brands to consider? I'm nowhere near as knowledgeable as I'm sure some of you are, so any help would be appreciated.

$3K? Whut?! Shop around. You can pick up decent quality manufacturers (Samsung etc) 42" models for around £400 here.

Bro they put a levy like you wouldn't believe here on imports.

How much is a Lambourgini your neck of the woods? I got a quote of today and it's $782K US...Ugly. And a Bentley...Close to a Mil

I'm not a bigshot. I was in a mall and asked the nice man how much.

Electronics get no mercy, Car nope, TV's uhoh

Can't complain about that once you have the TV

i found a good deal on an LG 42" flatscreen and i was about to buy it, but then i started to look into the specs a bit more.

the only thing i wasn't sure about was the whole 60 vs 120 Hz. everything i read and person i talk to gives me contradicting advise.

i just want a TV that i can use for a long time, man!

What's wrong with LGs? I've had my eye on those as well. I think the Hz is the refresh rate or some shit. What that means? No clue.

i understand the hertz from a technological standpoint, but i have no idea how much it matter. apparently movie theaters standard is 48 frames per second, the human eye see's 60. so 60 is what tv stations broadcast in and all that shit.

but is the 120 worth it? will i be able to tell that i paid more money for it?

i've heard pretty reasonable reviews on the LG. the biggest con was something to do with the darkness of the blacks, whatever that really means. but its pretty customizable.

Buy the biggest TV your wallet lets you. You Deserve It

If you like to rationalize things, peep through this looking glass: You'll actually save $ bc you won't go out as much.

At least that's what you can tell yourself until they bring it home.

Led backlit lcds are not a combo of plasma and LCD. They are just lcds that are backlit differently. And the new samsung ones are the shit. They look fantastic. I have an lg 100hz LCD, it's not bad.

But get a samsung led LCD. For sure. They are very thin and light, you can mount them really easy on a wall.

That's what I'd do.
