It is sad but true, the Beastie Boys are now not considered popular enough for mainstream radio.

Also TMR was only a limited release, it is not the lead single. When the lead single comes out, and i hope they have one, it will get 'some' play on radio 1 etc along with rotations on 'selected' music channels. :o

radio is dead. the single is climbing the itunes and amazon charts in the last couple of weeks.

http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=92070&highlight=charts

it's in the top 100 on billboard as well.

Yeah this is a totally stunning statement BOTH for its preposterous on the one hand AND for its TRUTH on the other! Crazy. Beasties are now officially a popculture contradiction

It's a limited release single. They did the same thing with Get It Together on Ill Communication.

A bit Off Topic here but, one of my gripes about the TT5B singles releases was the songs were not played on the appropriate stations and completely missed the target/attended audience.

All the singles were on contant rotation on Rock/Alternative/Punk radio stations when none of them were that particualr genre. They were not or hardly played on Hip-Hop/rap/urban stations which would have been their target genre audience for these singles.

This was the same with their music videos, Check it out, Right right now now and triple trouble were always on MTV2, Kerrang and Q here in the UK. But those songs would have been more appropriate on MTV Base, Kiss etc...

Aso before anyone comments, I'm not saying people who like rock/alternatuive etc would not like the hip-hop songs or the beasties do not cross genre, which they do. I'm saying as a pure logic Hip-Hop/rap song = should be played on said Hip-hop/rap radio/music station/channel.

There are people who have been fans longer than me, and they probably see people like me as having a screwy perspective. That said, I would like to add some pennies. I heard Paul's Boutique while I still a kid, while friends of mine were getting NKOTB cassettes and shit. It was special to me. I knew LTI was a big album, but I didn't know how big.

Check your Head was one for the older crew to represent, and I enjoyed it in a sort of solitude, since nobody I knew at 11 years old had even heard of them (except the person I copied it off piracy lol). There must have been some people from the 80s who were skeptical about all of these 'alternative' kids jumping on board.

Ill Communication, they were a slightly less well kept secret thanks to Sabotage, but among my reference group I was happy to be the odd one out for liking them. This is probably the point where most older heads were fed up with the bandwagon, but I was mirthfully oblivious.

Then came Intergalactic and Hello Nasty, my turn with the bandwagon, and suddenly every fuckwit and his dog who owned a Fatboy Slim album wanted to call themselves a Beastie Boys fan. Christ, it was ridiculous. And while I was happy for the band, it was a world that no longer belonged to me. Took me a long time to recover from, let me tell you.

And now, they're not popular. And what we have is a (relatively) discerning society for those who share a common interest. And it's good like that. Sure, the occasional new entrant to the community may do more harm than good, but it's manageable. My point is, as soon as they blow up again (if they do - and we're lucky they've done it 3 times already, really), you'll hate it. Trust me.

So if you want to wee in your bed at night worrying about sales, and charts, and radio stations, I think you should join the Coldplay forum. And give yourself an uppercut while you're at it. Thanks.

the more sales and radio play means the more times i get to watch the beasties on tv and the more venues they will play in england.the coldplay comment was low,i've been a fan since 1987 so i'm allowed to be pissed off.i only make comments on these boards to gain information from other fans but 50% of the time its some nasty comment by some cocky prick who thinks there a bigger fan.the way i read comments your more interested in looking cool and liking a cool band, grow up.

maybe you're listening to the wrong radio stations.

it certainly won't dictate when and where they will play next in england.

if there (sic) not popular enough why do they headline festivals all across the world!

well you just answered your own question, now didn't you? sit back and enjoy, no one's getting to see them live right now so what's to complain about?

The problem is that the music business is so fragmented now, no one gets the radio play they used to get. Even the classic rock stations only play Journey and Chicago. Anyone who's in the New York area should listen to RXP 101.9 (the old smooth jazz station.) They play at least a couple of Beastie songs every day.

I agree, it was a bit much. My point wasn't that I was a bigger fan. It was more about how many times they've already been massive; I just want to see them release shit they enjoy. If it gets played, then cool. But in the 21st century, we control the media we interact with. It's not hard to find stuff, to make it feel like it's everywhere, anyway.

For excellent freeform radio listen to WFMU in New Jersey. In their own words: "We're an independent freeform station broadcasting at 91.1 fm in New York, at 90.1 fm in the Hudson Valley, and with gobs and gobs of online offerings."

http://wfmu.org/

Also they have played Beastie Boys recently -- see the show Beastin' The Airwaves! with Keili - June 7, 2009:

It's just mucking around, I dunno, it's more a general statement than directed at you personally. Weeing and Coldplay are just a match made in heaven, you know?

Battling is a good word for it. Competing insults, nothing personal. Like a battle. *wees everywhere*
