I don't go to a lot of shows, but I was at pretty much the last ever QOTSA show to feature Nick, early 2004 (so, pretty much the last ever QOTSA show). He was mental, they played for about 2 and a half hours, full touring complement (Lanegan etc) and I was drinking lots. Enjoyed it.

Maceo Parker during Mardi Gras in some abandened warehouse. Shit was delicious! He played for 4 hours straight without stopping and the packed house was getting down to some serious funky stuff! Amazing show.
Rebirth Brass Band opened for him and they were like an additional hour of awesomeness.

I would have to agree with robmoney on the best show ever though. Beastie Boys in the HIRO Ballroom was freaking nuts.

1. Nine Inch Nails - November 2008
Damn. I had a ticket and didn't go on account of surgery.
I'm too old to pick a best ever concert, but in recent years it would be something Radiohead in a small venue.
The MSG one in 2004 was one of my favorite Beasties concerts because it had been so long and I had given up on seeing them. Then at the last minute I paid an enormous amount to a broker and traded in my frequent flier miles and suddenly I was in NYC. But some of the ones in small venues were better concerts.
Beasties and Rage at MSG.
I can't believe so many of you fell for the Mike D accident joke

Gotta give a shout to those Beastie shows, but 2 of them were festivals, and the 99 one had lots of tech issues. I know the next time they tour I'm gonna be happy, though.

Beasties ones have been fab but probably (an audience with) Patrick Wolf at Bloomsbury Theatre sticks out for me.
Artic Monkeys (before the hype took over) at Reading Festival in that tiny tent was good too.
I have ben thinking about it for a while.... it would probably have to be Warped Tour 96' .... just the time, the place, and atmosphere... I was in 9th grade, sneaking out, hoping on the train after saving all of my cash over the spring, sneaking into the Station Cafe' in Woodside, Queens (before they locked the doors), hooking up with my friends aunt (she was in 12th grade), seeing the Bosstones, face 2 face, fishbone, NOFX, missing the last train and getting stranded in Babylon having to have my father come get me and get my ass chewed out.....
i dont care if it is a festival or not, when I think of best time + music = this event..... probably one of the best times I have ever had and the best thing is/was that I was aware of how special it was during it...

Tool x 2.
The first time I saw the show I remember walking out saying to my friend that I will never see such an amazing show ever again.
The second time I saw them I travelled to Melbourne where they played in botanic gardens and I took a shitload of acid and it was mind bendingly awesome.
I returned to my dorm at the hostel after the show to find a wet partially naked japanese tourist in a towel lying on my bed.
Finding that shit when you're still fully tripping balls is not good. (he was given a wrong key to a wrong room).
Hmmmm Roger Waters playing the whole Dark Side Of The Moon live last year was really good too.
And the foo fighters last year, not a really huge fan, but got free tickets. Man, can Dave Grohl put on a good show. A true entertainer, you could tell he was genuinely having a terrific time up on stage. Played for almost 3 hours.
RATM were really good both times I saw them, except when a dude next to me peed on the ground and it splashed on my shoe.
Oh oh oh and Stevie Wonder was fucking awesome.

Same here. I saw them a couple summers ago and fuck Dave Grohl was made for being a rock star. He owned that arena like it was a 500 seat-club.

Run DMC - Wetlands NYC, 1990-something. It was akin to seeing them in your elementary school gym. A dude in front of me tried to touch Run and accidentally hit his mic while he rapping, Run slapped his hand down and gave him this look like "touch my mic, I'll kill you!" Amazing show, hip-hop at its finest.

when i say it was like a dream come true, it was literally like a dream come true. we call got to be like 3 feet from them, i was basically in the armpit of horovitz (no homo). it was almost like having them play in your living room.
also it was great to be at that show with a bunch of cool peeps from the board.
best concert i think refers to the best performance, which isnt what im referring to. this was the overall experience and most memorable

Top 5, for reasons varying from outstanding performances to the good times had:
Prince in '04
Tony Bennett in '08
Lollapalooza 4 with Smashing Pumpkins, Beasties, Tribe, George Clinton etc in '94
Dre & Snoop in '00
Travis in '01

I saw Beck two times in 1997, had a terrific time. other than that, I mostly enjoy smaller shows, and have been to so many that it's hard to say what's best.
I did have a great time seeing The Apes in...2004 maybe?

My first and favorite concert I've ever been to. I was the gigantic mexican teenager dancing in the upper right hand corner.
Good times.

Late but not less important I guess...
My passion is Hip Hop but I'm really into metal too, and the best show I've been to was this year, when Iron Maiden played here in Buenos Aires!
It's an amazing show!

This sort of displays some of the aesthetics kind of.
From a musical standpoint...they were tight, solid and extremely energetic without sounding too polished or too "studio". Trent Reznor at 40+ has more energy onstage than most 20 year olds.
I contemplated seeing them in Chicago this summer with Janes, but ultimately decided that they would not top that show. Since they may not ever tour again, I would rather remember an amazing show than an ok but not as good one.

This bboys show (http://www.beastiemania.com/gigog/show.php?g=20040828) from '04. It was basically the same environment at that HIRO show. 2 feet from the band, waist high stage, pretty much no barrier. Club was mad small. 21 and over crowd so next to no meatheadism. TT5B had just dropped so that new shit was hype and, well, new. Lots of interaction with the band. Got perfectly shitfaced with no bad effects. (i.e. drunk as hell but no throwin' up). Greatest night ever.
This bboys show (http://www.beastiemania.com/gigog/show.php?g=20061023) in Vegas was 2nd. The start of "the mix up" era, imo. The wore the suits for the first time and didn't take them off for a couple of years. Crowd was bonkers. Lots of message board peeps. Awesome fucking setlist. Paul Revere: rat pack stylee from the stools. I also opened for them that night. My avatar is a pic of me on stage.
NOTHING BEATS THE BBOYS.

2. The Ramones - Chestnut Cabaret 1990? - Venue in Philly on Univ. of Penn's campus, no longer in existence. Smaller than the Hiro. Basically the equivelent of the Beasties Hiro Show, just starring the Ramones. Got to Hi5 Joey and Johnny and had a bunch of eye contact (no homo)(EDIT:well now that I reflect on it, NO HOMO at least from my side, Dee Dee was known to suck a cock or two in his day) and acknowledment that I existed from Dee Dee.
