For the 300000000000000000000th time, I watch no pundits, left nor right winged. I'm wingless
It's just such a lazy and baseless retort at this point, let it go already.
Also, it's pretty funny how you use Beck and Limbaugh to put "conservatives" down all the time, yet make thread after thread about Stewart and Colbert segments and all types of uberleft-slanted website articles.

please don't put colbert and stewart in the same category as beck and limbaugh. people like glenn beck and rush limbaugh are in the business of telling people what to think, of manipulation - they try to scare people into agreeing with them by referencing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYbqZf53hHk) the (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VWT5Q7TloM) nazis (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlwfTeJ5_cs) and pretending to cry (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3Ebo4UhloU)
stewart and colbert are comedians. they obviously have their points of view and they aren't trying to hide them but they aren't trying to tell you what to think, they're trying to make you laugh by making fun of the people who are trying to tell you what to think, and i absolutely love how good they are at doing that. yes, the shows are liberal meccas but uhhhh liberals are the ones who find the shows funny so i don't know what that's meant to prove
i'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that you aren't going to agree with any of that but damn, the two are not remotely similar. yes, i regularly watch the daily show and the colbert report, and yes, i love to post clips to the shows, but it's not because they tell me what to think, it's because they do a fabulous job of making jokes about the things i'm already thinking about

It's just freedom of choice, I never watch either of the shows but if given the choice between pathetic and comedy I'll usually go with the comedy. Aren't all 4 of these shows under the FOX TV consortium of entertainment anyways? They play off each other so well, sort of like hedging your bet in Vegas.

Let's clear up a few things:
1) Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert appear on Comedy Central, which is owned by Viacom. There is no Rupert Murdoch/News Corp/FOX News connection whatsoever. Viacom is a different media mogul altogether. As far as I'm aware, Rush Limbaugh's radio show isn't affiliated with any FOX entity.
2) Here's the thing Rob does not understand (and never will) about The Daily Show. They're not telling people what to think, they're telling people TO think. I know when Rob posts something by Michelle Bachmann or Michelle Malkin (this is when he even attributes the source, the rest of the time he pretends that he wrote it), you immediately seem to buy into their arguments hook, line, and sinker. You even believe them long after their claims are debunked. It really is hard to comprehend that you claim to never listen or watch any of these right-wing pundits when you come on this forum and compare Obama to Nazi Germany, something your friends at FOX also do. I don't think this is a coincidence.

I joined this group on facebook, Glenn Beck Sucks, and the guy who runs it sent this out:
I just got done talking with, somewhat by accident, a handful of seniors via a few other various facebook groups. They are depressed with the healthcare reform situation. I soon realized that these folks are very lonely or alone and think they have no place left in our world as a result of this dis-information agenda. What has been said by the health insurance cos., GLENN BECK, etc., has made many of them very, very depressed. This needs immediate attention. Please help me figure out a way to address this and message me with ideas. I am off to bed and hope to hear from you in the morning.

Thanks. The irony of hedging your bet seemed like a great idea. I remember reading an article about Murdoch that said if there was money to be made in a liberal left style of news show he would be doing that show. Seems as if that article was way off the mark, unless this current incarnation of pundits is parody.

I don't watch his show, so my opinion is just the blanket opinion I have for all of these people who are paid to comment on politics.
They're just trying to keep a job.
They survive off controversy. Without it, they have no show and therefore no employment. Often times they have to create controversy when there is none, and it becomes difficult to decipher when they're manufacturing it, and when it's honest after a while because they become such good liars.
They're no different than sports talk radio.
These people are happy when controversy happens because it means they've found a new well of info for material for their show. It's pathetic.
The only thing more pathetic is when someone thinks their pundits are honest and the ones on the other side are liars.
They're all pilot fish.

Not really. We know what Beck says due to youtube links, and clips we see on Daily Show (BOO, HISS, I know) and news organizations, as well as articles. We don't watch his show on FOX, just the parts broadcast elsewhere. Glenn Beck is scheduled to be here in Washington State to receive the Key to the town of Mount Vernon WA. It's a small American Town, known internationally for flowers, specifically Tulips (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&um=1&sa=1&q=tulips+skagit+valley&aq=0&oq=tulips+ska&aqi=g1&start=0). I'm surprised by all the hype surrounding this ass coming here, but it does make for a great day out.
Mount Vernon not united on mayor's 'Glenn Beck Day' (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2009796296_beck03m.html)
Mayor Bud Norris announced that Beck, who grew up in Mount Vernon, will be on hand to accept the award Sept. 26, which Norris will also proclaim "Glenn Beck Day." Tickets for the Saturday evening event are $25.
Beck's advertiser abandonment has snowballed since he called Obama a racist on July 28, adding that he believed the president has "a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture."
Which makes Norris' timing provocative, to say the least. Critics say his announcement amounts to an endorsement of that and other extreme views of the television and nationally syndicated radio commentator — which have also included ruminations on killing filmmaker Michael Moore and poisoning House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, as well as barking like a dog over a Hillary Rodham Clinton audio clip and perpetuating the "death panel" claim about Obama's proposed health-care reform.
"That's certainly their preference if they choose to view it that way," Norris said Wednesday. "This isn't about his political views. It's about recognizing someone who has a history with our city."
Anyway, this should get interesting that I am sure of, Mt. Vernon has a huge Organic Farmer and Leftist streak completely surrounding the town. A highly active political area of the United States.
growing up in a city entitles you to the key to that city? shit, they should just be giving them out left and right

So if you call someone a racist then that means that YOU are a racist?
If that's the case do you wanna go back and check some of your posts for any similar accusations?
Saying that someone has a "hatred for white culture" sounds pretty racist to me. "White culture" implies there is a "white race," neither of which exist. "White culture" is something espoused by the Klan and is something that can not be defined, but is defended by them as something that needs to be preserved. So yes, he does sound like a scared racist, someone who is unjustly afraid that this black man who is in power hates white people, with no evidence to back it up. He's trying to appeal to the scared, racist white viewer who also has an irrational fear that Obama hates them and will try rounding them up for extermination or whatever harebrained things they're thinking of.

No but it is obvious that they CAN effect policy - look at the two individuals who resigned after beck called them out.
The can only effect policy because people like you get upset about what they say. As for the people who resigned, either they and the administration are spineless and will not defend themselves and their appointments or they agree with Beck that these people are unfit for service. Can you blame the guy for calling them out? Isn't that what the media is "supposed" to do?
Take Alex Jones for example he's so fucking crazy that no one even cares what he says and thus he is a relative nobody. Beck has hopped around radio for some time now and a few TV stations. He seems to have found a home with the Fox audience but I think even they will tire of his shit like all of his other audiences have. Just give it time, ignore him and he will go away.
My father told me a long time ago to "never let an asshole piss you off".
Sorry, but the media is a powerful tool
No...I am a powerfool tool!

Yes, yes they are just talking heads. The only power they have is to scare people like you who take offense to what they say. The more scared you are, the more power they have over you and it sounds to me like you are pretty fucking scared of them.
Oh right, opinions have never caused any trouble in the past
Opinions do not cause problems. Acting on those opinions does.
Last I checked most of his advertisers withdrew their endorsement of his show.
But he is still on the air and his contract is still being paid. There are still advertisers willing to support him. As his ratings increase (http://www.mediaite.com/tv/glenn-beck-has-most-viewers-of-all-time-last-night/), and they have been since the Boycott started, more advertisers will follow and some of the ones that left will come back. Ratings = $$$ simple as that. However, the less that people think he is newsworthy, the less rating he'll get and eventually "poof" he is gone. In the meantime I find him and people's reaction to him amusing :)
What the fuck are you saying? People who watch glenn beck are well informed?
What I am saying is that if you have only seen snipets of him on the daily show or other programs besides his actual show, you are not getting the full story and your opinion is therefor skewed and suspect. Should I have formed my opinion of Obama just because I saw a few news clips of him calling police officers stupid? Or because I read in the paper that he attended a church with an incindiary Pastor and can be socially linked to former domestic terrorists? No, because that would very dumb of me to do.
This was an interview, I didn't back up any opinion, I just enjoyed the fact that the asshole was put on ice and he squirmed like the worm he is.
Fair enough. I watched it because I kept hoping to get a "up-skirt" shot of Couric as she crossed her legs  That one camera angle was perfect, I know there's some footage of that momment on the cutting room floor somewhere. It was inevitable.

For someone who is telling someone not to be bothered with other people's opinions you seem to be concerned enough with mine.
The thing that bothers me most about beck is this. He does have impressionable fans/listeners/zealots and beck has said some shit that is quite inflammatory. The only time I pick up on something he says is when is is exceptionally bizarre, I pay little attention to any network news (including NBC, CNN, ABC, etc.), but FOX takes the cake with it's partisan shtick and it is something that those who are on the "left" should be concerned about. If you want to tell me not to be, fine - but that is my opinion and you are welcome to ignore it.

I happen to think the likes of Olbermann and Ed Schultz are just as fucking whacky as Glenn Beck but most folks basically ignore those tools so you don't hear about them much. The right has basically told these idiots that "we don't really care what you say because we think you have the credibility of a $3 crack-whore." End of story... now these guys are relegated to the back burner while guys like Beck get the cover of Time simply because the left is offended and can't stop talking about him. It's fucking hilarious.
Do you know how "talking smack" works? You say really offensive things to make your opponent get "psyched out", lose concentration and focus, and ultimately the game. Well, the right are the the smack talking kings and the left the smack receiving bitches. Somehow they just never learned how to do it well and always end up losing focus on the game (what happened to the public healthcare option? Guantanamo Closing? Troops coming home?) and crying to mommy about the bullies at school. I call it "The Pussy's Lament" and I love to see the far left fall for it every time like an Ali rope-a-dope.

This is patently false. I have yet to see someone like Olbermann do what Glenn Beck or others do. Olbermann does not lie (if anything, he is well-researched and knows how to spell, apparently), he does not spread hate, racism, and homophobia. Yes, Olbermann's rhetoric can be bombastic, but I have yet to see him call for segregated busing (like Rush Limbaugh has done).
And Keith Olbermann hasn't been relegated to the back burner. I've seen him be the subject of much media attention over the years in both print and broadcast media.

I dunno, MSNBC right now is #2 among the "big-three" 24 hour news channels -- ahead of CNN, and it's safe to say Olbermann is one of their highest rated shows. MSNBC has been historically low but has been trending with ratings increases within the past few years.
If he's not getting much publicity right now, it's only because he's not the new kid on the block like Glenn Beck is enjoying at this moment. A year or two before, Olbermann had the spotlight too.

Doesn't matter to me. Was just trying to show compartive viewership between the two. Hard to believe that someone like Greta gets those kind of numbers. In the end I guess it doesn't really matter who Fox plugs in, they have the viewership as a network to get the numbers even if they put Don Imus on the air. WTF? I'm really not trying to defend any of these people or Fox.
I still think the left are giving Fox's Heads wayy too much credit for the amount of influence they really have. David Brooks, Right Winger and Ed/Op man at the NYTimes wrote a very fair evaluation of Beck this week, here is a snippet...
So the myth returns. Just months after the election and the humiliation, everyone is again convinced that Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity and the rest possess real power. And the saddest thing is that even Republican politicians come to believe it. They mistake media for reality. They pre-emptively surrender to armies that don’t exist.
They pay more attention to Rush’s imaginary millions than to the real voters down the street. The Republican Party is unpopular because it’s more interested in pleasing Rush’s ghosts than actual people. The party is leaderless right now because nobody has the guts to step outside the rigid parameters enforced by the radio jocks and create a new party identity. The party is losing because it has adopted a radio entertainer’s niche-building strategy, while abandoning the politician’s coalition-building strategy.
The rise of Beck, Hannity, Bill O’Reilly and the rest has correlated almost perfectly with the decline of the G.O.P. But it’s not because the talk jocks have real power. It’s because they have illusory power, because Republicans hear the media mythology and fall for it every time.

RUSH: Tina in Oklahoma City Oklahoma, great to have you on the program. Hi.
CALLER: Hi, Rush great to be on the program and mega dittos from my husband David and our 11 homeschooled Rush Babies.
RUSH: Thank you. Eleven?
CALLER: Eleven yes, every day we listen to you.
RUSH: Mama. Mama. Well, I figure that took, let's see, 11 kids, five minutes, 55 minutes, 11 kids.
CALLER: Something like that.
RUSH: Couple cigarettes in between.
CALLER: No, not in this house.
RUSH: (laughing) Yeah. I hear you.
CALLER: Well, I am changing the subject. You had been discussing recently about why women are unhappy?
RUSH: Well, I've been reporting that there are people in the media studying why women are unhappy.
CALLER: Yes.
RUSH: Yes.
CALLER: Yes. And I have been listening to that, and since the first time I heard you mention that, I knew the answer. I was in the car with my 18-year-old son on Tuesday when you were talking about that again, and I looked at him, and I said, "I know why women are unhappy. Do you?" And without skipping a beat, he said, "Yes, because they're stepping outside of their God-given roles." And I think he hit the nail on the head. And in saying that I'm not saying it's a lesser role, it's a different role, and I think that women were designed and created to nurture babies, to love them, to educate them, to teach them to achieve their full academic potential, to love their fellow man, to become entrepreneurs, and I think that they're stepping outside of that and pursuing roles and stuff that just leaves them empty.
RUSH: I have a hard time disagreeing with this. Look at Hillary Clinton.

Christians really scare me sometimes. They believe in these "god-given roles" for women and men and it's so...1950s. I have a friend who is evangelical, I went to her wedding and she was going on in her vows about how it's her duty to respect and obey her husband and in return he talked about how he would protect her and provide for the house. Mind you, she was the only one with the college degree. She was allowed to get her higher education, as long as she didn't do anything with it and it was just a "fun" degree for educational purposes. He doesn't have a degree and has been working 3 jobs to provide for the both of them. I just...don't get it. The Wizard of Beck article was actually more focused on Rush Limbaugh too. It's all about the same. Years ago Hilliary was a huge focus of the vitriol, today it's Obama tomorrow it'll probably be Spongebob Squarepants. All I know for sure is it takes a very diluted watered down flashpoint style of fuel to get an idiot rolling. Especially if they already were racist/bigoted.
I think Brooks (who I've only agreed with 2-3 times) has made a very good point, the Republicans need somebody to stand up to these nutcases and evolve away from the moronic blithering corporate media speaking points. But the very first letter in response (http://community.nytimes.com/comments/www.nytimes.com/2009/10/02/opinion/02brooks.html?sort=recommended)to the Brooks article also makes a very salient point,
It's not just Glenn and Sean and Bill: it's their master, Roger Ailes. And DeMint, Coburn, McConnell, Boehner, Cantor, the whole roster of Republican office holders are falling in behind the Fox bandwagon of hate, nonstop hate, hatred 24/7.
Who will be man enough to stand up to the media controlled babble? Do we need to bring the fairness doctrine back? Or do we believe that it's all just imaginary?
A lot of the people teabagging etc. look as though the movement they would really like to engage in is a bowel movement.

He earned his own income by working two jobs (which he pays taxes for, so he has plenty of right to talk about it), he paid for his own college, and his parents wanted him to stay there to save money while he was in school. He's since moved out (and yes, still in school), and his mom's pissed because she doesn't want him wasting his money on rent when he could just live there for free. So, tell me Rob, how is his parents WANTING him to stay there HIM being a leech?
Either way, your term of "leech" is judgmental. I find it funny how some days you'll come in here, wanting a mature discussion and come down on people for being "immature" and insulting, and other days you'll come in here and start with the mud-slinging hypocritical bullshit. I left home at age seventeen to work in Alaska where I did very well for myself, my brother stayed at home and went to school then moved out at age twenty four with a masters degree. He is stinking rich and now takes care of our parents.
It's family, my family is a work of beauty and love that continually changes with each year. I couldn't stand my family at age seventeen and I went through some personal hell in my life, the fact that more and more kids are staying with their parents isn't necessarily a bad thing...

You take ridiculous things you hear from right-wing news, and then post them up here (sometimes passed off incorrectly as your own ideas as well). I really honestly hope that you're just posting up this crap to get a rise out of people than honestly believing it, though. I'd like to think you're more intelligent than that.
And Smithsonian probably paid more for Brett's internship than you earned during the summer, Robby. Uh-oh, maybe he has MORE of a say on taxes than you do, now!

Like I said before, you SHOULD be earning more than mid-20s kids. You're freakin' 36? 37? Talk to us when we're your age.
Librarian is a woman's job? I guess so is cooking and cleaning and all that stuff you most likely force your girlfriend to do, huh? She's so lucky to have a progressive-thinking male to tell her what to do. (y)
Librarians make quite a bit of money, since they need their Master's degrees to obtain such a position. I don't know what world you're living in where $60,000 starting and an upwards of $120,000 is considered poor.

And tell the Librarian of Congress that it's a "woman's job" (hint: those posts are usually held by men).
Maybe I'll never get "rich" from it, but I WILL live very comfortably off it. Unless you consider six figures to be poverty level.

Aww, did I hit a nerve? It's okay for you to insult my boyfriend, call him bald, elitist, special needs (which I never got, seeing as how you are a parent of a special needs child, I don't see why you use it as an "insult" anyways), leech, having a "woman's job," and whatever else, yet your girlfriend is off limits? You insult my significant other, I'll drag yours right in.

I'll tell you that picking on someone who
a) doesn't post here and b) has never said anything about you
just makes you look like the petty bitch that you are.
And I didn't say people thought Lambert was a special needs person for a while, as an insult.
People suspected it because that's what we thought.
I wouldn't use that term to insult someone, but I suspect that the fact that your even bringing my son's name into this is yet another passive-aggressive attempt at an insult.
If so, I hope you're proud.

For some reason, you equate me bringing someone up to make a point to "insulting." Like I said, I never insulted her. I insulted the way you view and treat women, and feel bad for her.
And I didn't bring your son's name into it. I said that it's ironic that you'll use "special needs" as an insult even though you're a parent of a special needs child. It's not an attempt at an insult (hey, believe it or not, this "campus fuckface" actually rallies for autism awareness and donations on campus), it's an attempt to point out your hypocrisy about how some things for you are "off limits" yet they aren't for others. And you certainly used it as an insult here (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?p=1675503&highlight=special#post1675503) and here (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showpost.php?p=1575077&postcount=47)?

I'm not acting like I know your girlfriend. I know YOU from your posts, and you're a sexist and a racist. You like to think you're not, but you certainly have said maaaany things that point otherwise.
Here's the real facts:
He wanted to move in with me when I moved here. I said no, because I wanted to establish my own life, my own friends, and move into a house with roommates and meet people. I like being independent and didn't want to cling to my boyfriend and rely on his friends to be my friends. We've been living together for a year now, after I established a solid group of friends.
He's not extremely effeminate, you're speculating that he is based on an unfortunate picture he took.
You said you believed he had "special needs," but then it turns out he was just a "douchebag." How would you like it if someone said it the other way around? "Oh, we thought he was a douchebag, but it turns out he's just special needs." Because that's what you're saying. Someone who looks like Brett is either one or the other. That's pretty low, and inappropriate. That's why it boggles my mind that you still pretend that you don't use "special needs" as an insult.
Do you want facts about yourself and Mae that you've both posted up, and shall I just say "Oh, be insulted if you want, but those are facts"? I really don't feel like being downright vicious, it's quite draining to my otherwise friendly personality. (n)

And yes, I did debunk everything you said, if you care to read. And as for your male librarian crap, the MLIS allows for people to be archivists, information architects, web designers, indexers and publishers, information professionals, and so on. I know there are quite a few people out there who get hung up on the "L" part of the degree, but there's another "I" in there, too. Just some quick education for you there.
As for the truce, that's fine. You clearly didn't operate that way with the first post you ever acknowledged me with, nor numerous other posts where you bring out personal insults when we don't, but if you're willing to change your attitude, then that's fine.

Ah, have we come to this stage of the good ol' RobMoney brawl once again? The "truce" part where you make some half-assed attempt at maturity and civility (which is not your strong suit, sorry to say) where you offer to cease "tearing me to shreds" (never happened).
You won't follow through and you won't be able to resist the urge to call me a "campus fuckface" or "gay" or whatever your honors student kids would tell you is bad behavior. Then after some more name-calling, you'll call for yet another truce a few months later and we'll be back to square one.
You do what you do (plagiarize, express racist, sexist, and homophobic thoughts, misspell words, etc.) and I'll do what I do. Don't dish out what you can't take and then offer another "truce."

That is perfectly fine, Rob. If I see you acting obnoxious and spreading around stupidity, it is my obligation and responsibility to call you out for it. Just like any other board member who has done so. Plagiarism, sexism, racism, and homophobia do not deserve to be met with silence.
That you let it get so personal and hurl out your list of "shredding" insults (or is that shreading as you spell it?) means that I must bother you so much that you can't keep in control of your emotions. You really love to dish it out, but the moment it comes back to you, you immediately retreat and call for civility, maturity, and probably your 110th hackneyed, condescending "truce" in the past year or so.

So yeah, we all understand why you can't REALLY respond.
And if anyone's interested in Rob's "non-insulting" reference to special needs:

People thought Lambert was Special needs, possibly Down's.
The only possible way that's offensive to people with Down's is if they are offended at being associated with Lambert.

Why not just say he's a douchebag? Why do you have to point out the fact that you thought he had Down's? The only reason is to insult him. I mean, Jesus Christ.
