I was at a record store in London today and I saw a flyer for upcoming singles to be released on Monday 17 August 2009. Beastie Boys - Make Some Noise was on that printed list (probably printed a month or so ago).
Adam will get better in a few months and things will eventually be back to normal. It will be one fine day when we hear that Adam has recovered and the band is ready to release some of the best material of their careers.

Yauch's health is more important than anything else.
I'm just glad they caught it early and he's doing well with the treatment.

From that information, isn't it safe to assume that Make Some Noise was going to be the lead/radio single from HSCp1?

Dunno. It would seem so. But if "Make Some Noise" was the planned first single then what was "Too Many Rappers"? TMR seemed to be an official single on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart 8 August (http://www.billboard.com/charts/hot-100?chartDate=2009-08-08&order=gainer#/charts/hot-100?chartDate=2009-08-08&order=gainer). But then the track vanished. I wonder what happened to TMR's entry -- seems unusual for a song to disappear so quickly. TMR was practically abducted by aliens just after its debut on Billboard. Now when you search for "Too Many Rappers" on the billboard website you only get M Dot.

It took this long for what to sink in? What was the point of this thread?
The fact that you were in London?
You saw a flyer record store?
That Yauch is going to recover and they are going to put out a dope record?
What are you talking about???

TMR was a limited edition single with no promotion whatsoever. How many times do I have to say that?!

I'm a big a fan as anyone, but if you were serious about this I'd bet the farm against you.

Their singles rarely do good on the Billboard Hot 100 anyway. Their last Top 40 hit was "Intergalactic" and before that it was "Hey Ladies". They still have several multi-platinum albums.
Really, if we want to see how well their singles do, we gotta check the Modern Rock Chart. And possibly the Hip-Hop chart if "Too Many Rappers" actually gets played on hip-hop stations.

I have been thinking about the Too Many Rappers limited release a bit. It was released on wax with no video. It had a slightly more of an official release feel than Lee Majors Come Again which was sort of like an easter egg on a DVD.
However without a video (for a band historically linked to high quality videos) it would be tough for a song like Too Many Rappers or Lee Majors Come Again to climb the charts.
Normally their songs do well on the charts. For example Ch-Check it Out (see below). The usual climb up the charts of a Beastie Boys track may be in part driven by the excellent video that is usually released alongside the single. Bring the Noise could be a big deal when released especially if it has an awesome video.
Peak Position of Ch-Check it Out on a few charts:
German Singles # 65
UK Singles # 8
U.S. Billboard Hot 100 # 68
U.S. Billboard Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Songs # 6
U.S. Billboard Modern Rock Tracks # 1

I have never cared, nor cared to undertsand people who care about chart positions. Especially with a band that means so much more like the Beastie Boys. You are a smart cat, M_F, great poster. But charts are a dumb look for all of us.

I agree chart positions mean little and are no reflection on the creativity of the artist. Most bands I love do not chart, never will and I am more than fine with that. When PB came out it was no problem for me that it was not as big as LTI. I would have still been listening to the Beastie Boys even if they had never charted LTI because I had friends who got me into their hardcore stuff in the 80's.
However since the Beastie Boys are nice guys, not bling bling and spend their money on the right things I want them to have all the financial success in the world. I was 'depressed' when Grand Royal was shut down. I do not want Oscilloscope Laboratories to shut down (as film and music is a major passion of Yauch's and it costs a lot of money -- probably personal capital as well). Their financial success depends in part on singles climbing the charts and whenever they have had a relase post Paul's Boutique I have 'secretly' wished for it to become a number one song or LP. All my independent music and punk rock friends would 'kill me' if they knew this about me but I am anonymous on here so I can write my 'true' feelings (gotta love the BBMB (http://bbmb.a.wiki-site.com/index.php/Main_Page) for this). I just want the band to make enough money so that they can continue to do what they do (making great music, videos, films). The day they stop doing that I will not be a happy camper.
All of this is a bit strange for me because I normally do not care about the charts (actually I never look at them honest) unless the Beastie Boys are releasing material. Once again the only reason I check the charts out is that I want the band to get paid in addition to the critical acclaim they are already enjoy. Just in case anyone asks me ("if I had to choose between the band having critical acclaim or financial success, which would I go for?") I would go for the former (just because I think that is what the band would have wanted).

Yes they do and a lot more than me :D i just want it to stay that way for a long-time
It costs a lot to make and put out films. I want Oscilloscope Laboratories to be in business for a long time.
Such a unique company with a lot to offer to music and film.

I actually heard it on a hip-hop station last week. (y)
Most times I hear the boys on the radio though, it's on more of a rock station...hip-hop stations are too busy dropping Weezy.

i have always been a chart watcher...not to influence what I like but I have DJ'd part time since 1988 and unfortunately in the area where I live I need to keep updated on whats generally the "Big" songs cuz i know im gonna have girls up my ass like this weekend when all i heard was "Play Fire Burning by sean kingston or play i know you want me by pitbull" then i have to mix them in somehow with stuff that doesnt make me nausious...at least the sean kingston song works good with "Keep It Goin' Louder" by Major Lazer.
I am also guilty of wanting huge success for my favorite band but they do what they do because they like it and we like it. I'm pretty damn sure they don't make tracks with the intention of chart position or they would be out there rapping about Patron and getting hot guest producers like Will.I.Am & The Neptunes on the tracks. The fact that they don't cater to the average music listener is what makes them so special to the rest of us...agreed?
could not agree more with the spirit of your post. Major Lazer is great -- going to see them perform live soon. should be a good show.

I saw them in Philly a couple months ago. HORRIBLE!
I was so disappointed. I've seen Diplo and Switch many times before and they are always dope. Their set was really boring as Major Lazer.
Too bad, considering their album is really nice.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that if and when "Too Many Rappers" gets played on hip-hop stations, it will be because Nas is on the track. They're pretty much restricted to rock radio stations these days.
Although one of the hip-hop stations in my area *did* play "Intergalactic" a few months back. And I proceeded to scream like a teenage girl at a Miley Cyrus concert when I heard it.

I wonder why they didn't drop the TMR video, considering that it's obviously been filmed. perhaps Yauch never got the chance to finish editing it? at the same time, if you've got a video for a single (no matter how limited the release be), why release it without the video or before the video is ready?
that one shot in the produce section is such a tease. hopefully nas will actually show a lighter side of his personality for once. i'm a huge fan, but he always seems so dang serious.

yes could be that the TMR video was not quite finished. alternatively the band may have wanted to postpone the 12" limited release of Too Many Rappers but it was already 'launched by mission control in Houston' (i just mean that it was already distributed).

That is a shame Micodin.
I like Diplo and Major Lazer but have never seen either live. It was Mike D's 'endorsement' of Major Lazer (in some newspaper article) that got me interested. Although I would have probably listened to them anyway as I knew about Diplo from his work with MIA (Piracy Funds Terrorism LP).

I have Yauch in my thoughts so often... I just pray for his recovery and hope he's not in too much pain. It's sunk in and it keeps sinking and sinking and sinking in... Being at Lolla was sad.
And I'm with the "charts schmarts" people.

I agree with you so much. Obviously it is much harder for Adam than on the fans. A new Beastie Boys LP has so much meaning for me (as well as others on the BBMB): the videos, the hype machine, the critical acclaim etc. Each aspect of this means a great deal to me -- probably because beyond being great musical artists these guys are good-natured folk. The fact that this unfortunate illness has delayed these joyous experiences for the band and us is particularly difficult to handle emotionally. It is not just that I want the band to succeed beyond all expectations at what they love doing but I also like how we are all part of the process (listening to their work, supporting it and now remixing it). Things will get back to normal I am sure of it. It is just the seriousness of the situation that makes me feel down. I am sure others here feel emotionally drained at some level as well. I do not think one needs to know Adam personally to be affected by this misfortune. Let's try to keep our spirits up for Adam though :)
