no no, I mean, most people should be able to read that easily. you maybe have an even easier time, the way that people process writing is pretty interesting. lkie taht tnihg werhe the letters are messed up, but you can still read it.

I'm not very good at reading graffiti, but I'm really good at reading bad handwriting.

Hey, weird question, is it like a new thing to tag billboards using a similar color scheme and work with the composition of the ad itself? because I've seen that around lately. it's pretty neat. like, by my work, they're really fast about removing graffiti, but there's this one billboard that had been tagged for a few days...it took me awhile to even notice it at first. it's camouflaged. http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs194.snc1/6528_257850395502_505710502_8486875_416855_n.jpg

I mean, obviously it's there and huge, but it blends in when you don't look at it directly. and that's really busy intersection and a not very high billboard, whoever did it had some balls.

I found this flickr with a bunch of the graffiti I see around. most of it's dumb, but some is really neat. this one's nuts: http://www.flickr.com/photos/emenfukos/3804718000/

uumm nope, its been that way since the 90's. The ones who really go out of there way to bomb on billboards with great color scheme are the cats from MSK or AWR... well mostly they guys here in SoCal and with the exception of those up north in San Fransisco bay area. Let me look up a guy in the graffiti files and lets see if any of you can figure out his moniker from his writing hehe. brb with pic.

okay, I guess I've just never noticed it. it's more popular for artists here to paste things up and do stencils than the traditional spray paint stuff. graffiti has exploded in the past 2 years, there are tags on EVERYTHING. most of it is shit, however.

there used to be these dudes who'd go into empty lots and use all the garbage and stuff to create art on the fences surrounding, incorporating their own drawings. it was so lovely. but then the city decided it counted as vandalism and painted over all of it with brown paint. :(

anyway, can you give me a hint on that moniker? how many letters? and is it a real word or name? is it the same name in both pictures?

well gotta understand there is a diversity of intentions with vandals or if you wanna call'em graffiti artists. Some of the group is like propaganda related, others is more gang associated, or some other groups do it to just plainly write there alias name over the surfaces because its an inside thing between graffiti writers in the sub-culture, also others just like to use this concept to express artistic values. So, just think that not all graffiti that you see is gonna be intended to be beautiful or inspiring because that is not the message the guy was implying.

I will tell you the name.

its Apex.

oh, I know there's all kinds. the stuff by my house is mostly Latin Kings territory markings. by my work it's mostly just names and stickers, that's why I was surprised by that huge billboard one. once there was a "fight" on the dumpster at work where two guys were writing back and forth to each other. it was pretty funny.

My favorite people who tag are a guy who writes "weed wolf" really huge on stuff, and another guy who writes "nite moves". and my friend used to put paper legs everywhere: http://www.flickr.com/photos/80legsproject/1307082251/

Apex?! I could've sworn it was Majicjamsers. How on earth do those spell Apex?

Like this guy I chatted with over myspace sent me some stickers and afterward sent me some photos of his vandalism that he had done years ago in Sunset, California. He puts tongues on bust stop ads.

he does other stuff than adding tongues. that was mostly just his "project".

Well about Apex, hehe yeah even some graffiti writers cant even read his stuff. Mostly because those who try are pretty oldschool cats use to just doing bubbly simple letters. I do abstract writing so I guess I can read after some analyzing of the work.

ha, those are good.

welp, they took down the hornitos ad, it's a big blank white space now. drugfacts? had a pretty good run though.

I think you need to do an overlay for those apex things, so I can see it. I think I can make out the "p" and maybe an "e", otherwise I just see a lot of "m".

the power of vowels, I guess.
