http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/08/18/obama.protest.rifle/index.html

recipe for disaster?

and what does the 2nd amendment have to do with health care reform?

their defence or justification is that they are legally permitted to do so. but honestly, just how incredibly stupid is it, considering america's history of assassinated presidents and attempted assassinations, to bring guns to where the president is appearing and speaking.

the guy carrying the rifle said:

"I'm absolutely, totally against health care, health care in this way, in this manner," he said. "Stealing it from people, I don't think that's appropriate."

wtf? sounds like he just wanted an excuse to walk around with guns and feel like a big man.

and this?
"I come from another state where 'open carry' is legal, but no one does it, so the police don't really know about it and they harass people, arrest people falsely," the man said. "I think that people need to get out and do it more so that they get kind of conditioned to it."

I'm sorry, but I don't want to be conditioned to seeing people carrying guns in the open all the time. I grew up in a house with guns, and I'm still fucking scared of them.

Un fucking believable. What an embarassment. Can someone explain to me what the fuck these assholes who do this are thinking, because normally i can justify almost any action in my head, but not this.

Malcolm X wannabe, trying to outdo the last gun nut....soon the only way do get more attention is to discharge one.

I believe that carrying an assault rifle in public was not in mind when our Forefathers created the Second Amendment.

Incredibly stupid to add yourself to a Secret Service roster over trying to stir the pot.

Now why were people placed in Free Speech zones and removed from forums that bush was attending for wearing shirts?

I agree with you, I don't want to live in a society where carrying guns is commonplace. I recognize that I have this opinion because the enviorment I grew up in (Philly) was that type of enviorment.

By the same token, I realize that there are rural societies in this country where it's acceptable and commonplace for people to handle firearms and to teach their children to safely handle firearms. They have the constitutional right to be paranoid freaks if they choose to.

(y)(y)(y)Absolutley spot on. These are the same people whowant to eliminate firearm registration because they don't want the government to have their name! Dolts.

But I believe that carrying a musket in public was. We just have better muskets now. Really cool looking BLACK muskets that can empty a 30 round clip in about 4 seconds. (y) Had they been available at the writing of Constitution, surely the forefathers would have wanted every American to have the very best firearm available. :D

Hmmmm. You know the story of people carrying semi-automatic weapons outside one of President Obama's speeches? Turns out it was a radio stunt.

The radio station should be charged with conspiracy to cause panic (someone could have reacted to this in a very unfavorable manner from either side of the fence)

SoOoOo if I run into a movie theater and yell "FIRE!" then it is ok....I'm just exercising my freedom of speech ya know?

"... we're from the Marines and we're here to help You!"

This country was built on the right to bear arms.

And what has a socialist health care 'reform' to do with this right? I guess it might be the next target of the State (i.e. a bunch of liberty-killing restraints) run by socialist scumbags from the '69 generation.

Hey, it's the Polish valvano!

This country was built on the right to bear arms.

Which country, Poland? Or America? Actually America was built on the principle of no taxation without representation. I think if you look into the history of the Second Amendment you'll find the holy and sacred right to carry guns around is not nearly as cut-and-dried as you seem to think it is. But then you've never cared much for facts anyhow, at least not that I can recall.

Unfortunately I think America was built on a deck of cards.

I do not mean to offend anyone but Judeo-Christian associated mythologies are part of America's problem. We now know religious ideologies are destructive to people (especially outgroups) and have no place in matters of the state. Corporate ideologies have no place in matters of the state either. Politics driven by religious and/or corporate ideologies have resulted is a series of failed experiments (e.g., America, China, Germany and Russia are some notable examples of failures driven by ideological excess). So what is the solution? A coalition of diverse countries who have demonstrated clear evidence of socially sustainable values (which could be defined and measured). This coalition would provide guidance for all governments especially nations at highest risk for instability or are causing global instability at a disproportionate rate.

I should have mentioned that the craft fair was organised by the NYC feminist magazine Bust (http://www.bust.com/). So I guess Michelle*s_Farm is literally Bust (or was yesterday at least). Great ma and pa artisans at the show --- no DIY health care available though.
