I'd like to know more about the plot/premise before I start criticizing the trailer. I'm mildly interested otherwise.

The story’s protagonist, Jake Sully, is a former Marine who was wounded and paralyzed from the waist down in combat on Earth. Jake is selected to participate in the Avatar program, which will give him a healthy body. Jake travels to Pandora, a lush rainforest-covered extraterrestrial moon filled with incredible life forms – some beautiful, many terrifying. Pandora is also home to the Na’vi, a sentient humanoid race that humans consider primitive, but are actually more evolutionarily advanced than humans. Standing three meters tall, with tails and sparkling blue skin, the Na’vi live in harmony with their unspoiled world. As humans encroach deeper into Pandora's forests in search of valuable minerals, the Na’vi unleash their formidable warrior abilities to defend their threatened existence.

Jake has unwittingly been recruited to become part of this encroachment. Since humans are unable to breathe the air on Pandora, they have created genetically-bred human-Na’vi hybrids known as Avatars. The Avatars are living, breathing bodies that are controlled by a human 'driver' through a technology that links the driver’s mind to their Avatar body. On Pandora, through his Avatar body, Jake can be whole once again. Sent deep into Pandora's jungles as a scout for the soldiers that will follow, Jake encounters many of Pandora's beauties and dangers. There he meets a young Na’vi female, Neytiri, whose beauty is matched by her ferocity in battle.

Over time, Jake integrates himself into Neytiri's clan, and begins to fall in love with her. As a result, Jake finds himself caught between the military-industrial forces of Earth, and the Na’vi – forcing him to choose sides in an epic battle that will decide the fate of an entire world.

the landscapes look wonderful, but those blue creatures aren't very convincing. they look too sheen and rubbery. this movies gonna be in 3D though, no?

Yes, its supposedly entirely in 3D. I've been delivering food to the set for about six months. They like Greek and Indian food. And Cameron's house is amazing!

I thought this was Avatar air bender :(

Mmmm the story feels like i have seen a couple movies back that are similar. So.... I say no to this movie.

That plot premise someone posted sounds an awful lot like Pocahontas, I reckon.

In all honesty, the trailer, premise, and "creatures" don't seem promising. That said, Cameron has been working on this picture for a long time, and while I wouldn't consider my self particularly a fan of his, he does have a great attention for detail and sees his films down to the 'T'. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, while I don't think it's gonna be a classic by any means, I'm willing to bet the first viewing will be very entertaining, especially thanks to the fact that's he probly really gonna push the boundaries of the blossoming 3D medium.

although the na'vi so far look disappointing, a james cameron film is always going to be 100 times better than any lame ass indie hipster romance.

totally agree. all i could think of when watching that trailer was the new 3 star wars movies. it's like watching the cutscenes in a PC game.

will still watch it for sam worthington's "performance".

I am a little confused.

The impression I had from the hype (before this trailer) was that this was going to be the first live action 3D film done well, I saw My Bloody Valentine 3D and while entertaining in a goofy popcorn way was far from brilliant.

As it seems from this trailer to be a mostly cgi film, ie like Beowulf then what is different with this than say Monsters vs Aliens, Ice Age 3D etc...its all computer generated (bar a few scenes), therefore a cartoon film essentially and not live action.

So...feeling somewhat disappointed.

fully cgi characters do not belong in any film. maybe a children's film. it's so lame and lazy. even when it's done well it's not convincing.

the moment the zombie things in I Am Legend appeared, the entire movie fell off the deep end. what a great buildup and premise, just to blow over some some stupid cgi. same with the incredible hulk movies (not that the script's were very good anyways). a fully cgi hulk? what a fuckin' crock. especially the recent one. you pay a buncha money and get a great actor like ed norton on board, just to not let him do his job and actually get to act out being the hulk.

fuck cgi. as much as I hate to say it, the transformers movies are the realest looking heavy-cgi i can think of as of late. that shit looked pretty convincing. prolly cause they were metal creatures. i dunno, i need my morning coffee to chill me out. later.

This reminds me of a Quentin Tarantino Quote...

This CGI bullshit is the death knell of cinema. If I'd wanted all that computer game bullshit, I'd have stuck my dick in a Nintendo.

too much CGI that looks really goofy/cartoony + that premise = eh. No thanks. If it comes out and the reviews are good, I might give it a chance. But otherwise there is no way I'm seeing it.

I dunno guyz... some cgi can look pretty realistic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5Ar5LauM_Q&feature=PlayList&p=7357FC05EDD02A58&index=73#t=2m40s)!

i'm hoping this can only be appreciated in the 3d cinemas..and that a computer screen does it no justice.

cause if not this just might be the most over-hyped film in history...the space/landscape stuff looks great..but the avatar characters look super-fake..

it's a james cameron film so despite the so far crummy looking na'vi, the reviews will probably be really good.
