and finding a big display of the 12" Too Many Rappers by Beastie Boys Featuring Nas made my day. I wish there were more record shops in the world so that more people could experience the feeling of finding in three dimensions (as opposed to downloading a digital file) their favourite band's latest release. My warmest thanks to Beastie Boys for providing fans with this wonderful collector's item. What a great way to release the first single off the new LP as it sends a clear message -- I just hope people get the message and are able to get this gem of a release in three dimensions for a change.

I'm right there with you. Although, I bought my US version from a record store, I had to get my EU version from the internet. I am kind of curious though, when you say there was a big display, do you mean that the record store made a display, or that there was some kind of Capitol-EMI promotional stuff there? The only reason I ask is because I have only seen the US and EU issues with zero support from a marketing standpoint. Word of mouth release per-say.

Call it a litmus test or a control for the single that does get all the support.

Not necessarily the right thread fo this, but I think the album should be plumped up to an even 20 tracks. Specially since there are 2 skits on there and 3 of the songs will have been in the public domain for a long, long time once eventually released. Lee Majors dropped in May.

Cool -- glad you had a similar experience. It was the record store staff that placed Too Many Rappers on display so people could easily see it at the checkout counter. Below is a link to a shop with many EU copies of the 12" left:

To learn more about this record shop it started in 1976 as a punk, Jamaican and US import shop (e.g., history and directions see below):

Albeit it is not the oldest record shop in the world -- that honor goes to Spillers (http://www.spillersrecords.co.uk/about_spillers/)which started in 1894!

I think Mike D made a joke about releasing the entire LP slowly using 12" singles. Damn that would be fun especially if it was in store purchases only ;)

According to one source I saw there are only 5000 copies of Too Many Rappers available in the world. I wonder who from BBMB are members of
'5000 Club' and which record store they purchased it from? There is also the lesser known "22009 750 Club" (y)

1) Michelle*s_Farm (Rough Trade Records)
2) bigfatlove06 (a US record shop of unknown origin)
3) Laurie_Hammy (I think he wrote he had the 12" in another thread found in Australia?)

I bought my copy of the 12" at a record store in the burbs of Chicago called Ranbow Records.

I was probably just going to buy it online somewhere but about two days after the release I was passing Rainbow Records. I had never even been in this store as it's not on my usualy route. But I stopped in and he had two or copies.
