well i saw this on saturday and i have three schools of thought on it

1) There are pre auditions with production staff and i think they realised then he was good then stage managed the whole thing and made him look even better

2) Simon cowell discovered him months ago and has had him in some sort of x factor ninja camp honing his performance

3) he's been practising that routine for years and it all just clicked.

and if he is that good how come its took him 6 series to get picked or even enter. surely he must have known he has a great voice.
he is good no doubting that, just not sure he was that good without a bit of help.
he wont win - he'll come second cos cowell has already worked out how much he can make out of the bugger and if someone else wins thats even more money for cowell.
maybe there's been too many of these shows now and its made me and others ultra cynical

Let's face it, if he had to audition acapella like previous years, it would have sounded pretty shit.

I can't believe I'm talking about this show either, it was just a blip on a music site I read so I thought I'd watch. I've never seen any of these reality shows.

Those pipes would sound great acapella, he has a Sam Cooke like presence and vibe.

Agreed, he was very good. I just meant that he couldn't have done that song in that Joe Cocker style without the backing track.
