Passed a place that had a sign in the window that said "Martial Arts Supplies Sold/ Sharpened" today and it got me to thinking about my pre-teen, early 80's ninja career.
I had a set of the mini nunchucks I bought from a catalog I got in the mail one day. Christ only knows how I got my Gran to write the check for me.
I use to have a bunch of stars too. Got those from some dude at the local flea-market. $1 a piece.
Also had the cool ass bandana, white with the red rising sun on it.
I really wish I had given that career path my all. pffth.
Anyone ever have any ninja weapons?

I'm a Samurai but um I did get to use "ninja stars" once with a friend. I think they are illegal in California. I used the nunchucko plenty as a kid and I would advised only skilled experts or smart people to use this. So many bruises.
edit: And so much blood.

my pops helped me build some nunchucks once a long time ago when I was gaga over the ninja turtles. they lasted about two days before I broke them, but it was pretty ill while they lasted.

I remember this little nerdy dude whipped out a pair of homemade nunchucks on me in a fight and they broke in the middle of him trying to whip them around his back.
i never owned any, unless plastic nunchucks that were actually a ninja turtles toy counts. i'm no good with nunchuks. i can do that thing where you move them from side to side without actually taking your hands off of them but that's about it. they seem like a very impractical weapon. like, not even as good as a baseball bat.
I used to make them. then my piece of shit cousin got them stuck in a tree for years. They were still there like 3 years ago.
I was a big bo staff fan. Get a straight stick and there you go: Donetello.

I remember my Step-Dad taking me to Asian World Of Martial Arts in Philly Town when I was a kid. They had everything!
I think it's moved tho. It used to be in China Town. I haven't seen it in a long time.

I'm really suprised more people didn't loose eyes and get hurt from throwing stars and how popular they were. Those things could do some van damage.

I use to stick a star in a tree maybe once every 10 throws.
