'pop life' (but now I look like I'm band-waggoning)
it's his best song imo, next to 'delirious'

When Doves Cry, because no matter how awesome someone says it is, it's still an understatement.

havent got a fucking clue about how underrated they are, i dont know enough about prince. I have the big singles thing, sign o the times album and thats it. i knew a coupla lads who were seriously mental about him and that put me off a bit.
i always liked alphabet street best but i have no idea if its underrated or even rated for that matter!

Apart from Endorphinemachine, For You, How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore, and Everlasting Now, I'd say the vast majority of these songs are well-known favorites. A lot of them were even top 10 singles. When You Were Mine was never released as a single, but it's definitely one of his more popular songs.
I always thought that She's Always In My Hair and Erotic City were way too good to be b-sides.
And this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlXJtOdI01k) song he did with Gwen Stefani in 1999 was pretty overlooked. There were also a lot of really good songs on Musicology (Cinnamon Girl, The Marrying Kind etc) that weren't all too popular.
If we're just listing favorites, I think I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man deserves some love here.

Musicology in general I think is a very underrated Prince album.

Was about to type the same thing.
"Life O The Party" and "If Eye Was the Man In Ur Life" are the jams.

I think his fans definitely appreciate it, but yeah. Even though it kind of brought him back some mainstream attention and even a few awards, he didn't get the credit he really deserved for it.

do we mean underrated in the mainstream ? Not really talked about by the general non kool aid sippers ?
if so I think i'd go with Tamborine

A few of his sweeter ballad-type things don't get a ton of love: Strollin' and With You. My favorite Prince song might be 7 but I guess that doesn't count because it was a big hit single. That album has a lot of good stuff on it, Blue Light, Morning Papers, Damn U, And God Created Woman.
I never heard So Far So Pleased, thanks mickill, good song.

You're so very welcome ;)
I'd like to take this time to bring Sister (http://beemp3.com/download.php?file=4270107&song=Sister) to the table. Yeah, the incest stuff is a bit on the...how you say...gross side, but if you take that away, that still leaves you with nice guitar licks, underage sex, BJs and lotsa sporadic swearing.

But that's the best Prince stuff.

Let's Pretend We're Married is the pinnacle of that "in yo face" Prince music I enjoyed.
I feel that Joy in Repetition is underated per say....and then maybe Computer Blue due to the fact that he shorten the original 14(?) minute verison for the CD. That song in its whole is ridicolous. AnotherLoverHoleNYoHead is classic Revolution.
Peach, Power Fantastic and Pink Cashmere are underated gems in terms of the Prince lexicon as well. There were alot of "killer" B-Sides Prince had as well as stuff we have hear via the bootleg/internet circut...imagine the songs we have yet to hear in the legendary "vault" of his.
I think songs such as She's Always in my Hair and How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore have been shown love since they have been re-done by D'Angelo and Alicia Keys respectfuly. I don't know if I'd say they're underated since he used to bring the house down when he would perform both live according to the linear notes of The Hits/B-Sides album

I think you take the best stuff from that album and 3121 and maybe 2-3 songs from Planet Earth you have a "classic" Prince album. As I said before a while back and heard some discontent with.....
3121 had "Black Sweat" for god sake's.....he was taking it WAY back with that jam. That right there is a nominee for underated.

Prince makes me wish I was more of a fan of his. Although I busted out 'Sign o The Times' at a shindig at ours and it got mad love. I love that song.

His new CD was a letdown...and then to see he's already bored and doesn't tour. That man is crazy.

"Dreamer" off the new record(s) is pretty good. I honestly can't remember anything else from them. And I really only recall that song's guitar solo. :(
