yeah this is why I refuse to acknowledge the Dawn of the dead re-make and was annoyed that the nazi zombies in Dead Snow ran a bit.

even if usain bolt gets bitten by zombies I will make a big 'TCHOH!' if he enters the next olympics

i'll let "Return of the Living Dead" slide cause it's so funny and entertaining...

but anything else really pisses me off

Yes, a conventional zombie should not run. But now there are a lot of films with a disease or virus which explains the ability to do so.

That's exactly what a zombie wants you to believe...this thread is suspicious...The Walking Dead… (http://www.comicvine.com/the-walking-dead/49-18166/)

the Dawn of the Dead remake was great.

Also, they're much more intimidating if they can run...otherwise you just gotta side step around them.

It depends, if a person gets bit and within minutes is turned into a Zombie then they should be able to run. (Just not with super speed).

If a corpse is re-animated or rigor mortis has set in then no it is impossible for a Zombie to run!

The 'Dawn of the Dead' remake was the bomb!

When zombies run, they are just like screaming football hooligans running around. What's the point?

It's like remaking a werewolf film and removing the werewolf's fangs and hair. The whole idea of zombies is that they are slow as fuck and you can run away from them once or twice, but you can't run away forever, because eventually the whole world will turn into zombies and surround you. It's that sense of inevitable doom that makes zombies so great.

Fast zombies films are for people who can't cope with dialogue and just want ACTION ACTION ACTION and people being CHASED DOWN and EATEN ALIVE while EXPLOSIONS go off all around them because they don't have any imagination.

I mega enjoyed the Dawn of the Dead remake. However, I agree that zombies are better when they don't run. It's the whole inevitability of the thing. If zombies run, then it's just another monster movie and they might as well be giant snakes or monster dogs. OG zombies are much more ominous. As Freebasser said, you can't run forever. The OG Dawn of the Dead was awesome for that reason. The zombies just keep on coming. Plus the soundtrack was by a band called Goblin.

I do like the OG-slow walking type. I can't deny that. But if a film or story is well done, fast zombies can be just fine. People sometimes argue rigor mortis but if the corpse is reanimated then technically that wouldn't be an issue?

In the end, whatever. Zombies are fun.

This same comment was given about 'Dead Set (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxqZnAXuv7A)'.

Someone also posted an article by Simon Pegg (freebs?), where he makes the rather good argument that:

Death is a disability, not a superpower. It's hard to run with a cold, let alone the most debilitating malady of them all.

More significantly, the fast zombie is bereft of poetic subtlety. As monsters from the id, zombies win out over vampires and werewolves when it comes to the title of Most Potent Metaphorical Monster. Where their pointy-toothed cousins are all about sex and bestial savagery, the zombie trumps all by personifying our deepest fear: death. Zombies are our destiny writ large. Slow and steady in their approach, weak, clumsy, often absurd, the zombie relentlessly closes in, unstoppable, intractable.

I agree with this, buuuut the slowness is also why I never find zombies that scary. They look utterly disgusting ofcourse, and if you don't look out you'll turn into one of them (eeewww),but I always have the idea that you can just run away from them. Yeah, just RUN. They're slow, they won't keep up with you. Even better, run up the stairs. If they follow you, bash their brains in with a cricketbat.

While I generally have a lot of respect for Simon Pegg...

Running Zombies are the greatest reinvention in the history of awesome things being reinvented better, stronger and (most definitely) faster! New and improved, now featuring terrifying feats of speed!!!!
