As reported in many interviews, Serch had tried (unsuccessfully) to join up with fellow New Yorkers, the Beastie Boys. Upon signing with Def Jam, 3rd Bass inherited their label's feud with the Beasties. The Cactus Album was released shortly after the Beastie Boys – riding high on the success of Licensed to Ill – walked out of their contract with the label. In addition to containing multiple potshots directed at M.C. Hammer (who was called "M.C. Household Tool" in the liner notes), Cactus also attacked the Beastie Boys and their defection to Capitol Records.

About as accurate when Wikipedia said Raekwon was a bitch and afraid of Joe Buddon.

That shit is apparently true, as Mike D said in the CYH audio commentary that Serch used to bother them about getting into the group. Either way, the Cactus LP is a classic and they should be remembered for that shit. Much better than anything Eminem's ever done.

Most people remember 3rd Bass for MC Serch, but no one mentions the other half of the group, Prime Minister Pete Nice, he was a bad ass MC.

I always liked Pete Nice better than Serch. I felt he was a better rapper and much, much MUCH less of a wigger. I swear, I can't remember an MC Serch interview pre-2000 where he didn't talk about how badly he wanted to be black and how evil the white man is.
