Very sad. Dude was seriously one of my favorites. He was the first to really bring the personal insults in competitions, namely the DMCs. X-Men used to run shit.

Ganked from okayplayer.com

Questo gets it:

for all of the "i dont know who he is tweets" let this be a lesson to the hip hop generation the dangers of disposing of hip hop culture. this isn't a "dangers of trend hopping" speech. hell, trends are fun. but for some reason history and culture preservation never go hand in hand with black music. so as a result a man like james brown is "that guy that eddie murphy imitated on delirious" and pete rock and cl smooth sing that song "mama getting married in a house" (quote from my hip hop culturally indifferent 23 year old pal)---point is. i dont know who i get mad at more: the 4th generation of hip hoppers (post crack babies era 86 and younger) who scoff at history (team "tell em") or the jaded generation who wont do their part and take time out to teach people the beauty of hip hop history. (on the real just do what i do: designate 5 people under 25 WORTHY of a nano. make them an ipod of the hip hop that you feel represents the beauty of the culture. i gave one to my grade school friend's daughter who shocked me by leaping right past illmatic and going straight to paul's boutique and this kid is skinny jeaneration as it gets with thumbing her nose at anything older than kanye)---the point is? roc raida was an innovative turntablist who re defined the art of scratching with his 4 man crew the X-Ecutioners start with this clip of him in action and build from there http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCNjtk2fO6E. pass it around. and educate yourselves on the art of true hip hop and one of the dopest cats to rep the culture. rip Roc Raida.

Roc Raida was VERY influential in the DJ battle and turtablist movement of the mid 90s. He was part of the X-Men crew (they later changed their name to the X-Ecutioners because of copyright bullshit). They revolutionized the juggling game.

You ever heard of the Kool Moe D v. Busy Bee MC battle? Well, X-Men (Roc Raida, Mista Sinasta, & Rob Swift) v. the Invisbl Skratch Piklz (Mixmaster Mike, Shortkut, & Q-Bert) was like Kool Moe D v. Busy Bee for DJs. That was monumental shit. I love when Rob Swift brings in that bass groove! Fiyahhh! Then the Piklz just kill it. Damn. It was this sort of thing that got Mix Master Mike to where he is now. Check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnAF8ehFRiE

We've lost of DJs this year. Mister Magic just passed away as well.

RIP Roc Raida.
